The best time to hike in good weather is between April - October, as the skies are clear and there is less rainfall. 
The driest months are between June - August, which is winter in the Andes. 
January to March is summer in Peru and is when it rains the most.

How is the weather in this experience?

Accepted Answer

In the Andes, which have altitudes above 3500 masl, the average daily temperature fluctuates around 10°C (50°F) and during the night can reach a freezing state. If you fly directly to Cusco (3250m), you should try to have several days to get used to the altitude. April to November is the dry season in the mountains and altiplano. December to March is the rainy season.

There are always evacuation plans and routes, for simple or complicated situations.
The guides are prepared for any situation, for any emergency you will be able to return to Cusco by transportation.

The official currency in Peru is the Peruvian Sol (S/). In Lima and Cusco there are exchange houses that change any currency in the world; however, we recommend that you exchange currency in Lima.

The experience does not include meals not specified in the itinerary, tips, entrance fee to the 7-color mountain: cost of 10 soles (3 USD) approximately.

Do I have any spare time during the activities of the experience?

Accepted Answer

If you arrive early on Day 1 of the experience, you will have some free time to explore the city of Cusco on your own. If you want to participate in any of the extra activities that we offer in the &#x27;extras&#x27; section, you will need to add additional nights before and/or after.

Once the programmed activities are finished, you will generally be able to enjoy some free time to relax, share with your companions and get to know on your own. This time will be communicated by the guide at the beginning of your experience.

If meals are included, what&#x27;s the menu going to be like?

In this experience, 5 buffet breakfasts and two lunches are included. The buffet breakfasts typically consist of the following:
Yogurt, toast, local breads, scrambled eggs, cereals, fruit salad, mates, tea, coffee, butters, and jams.
The lunches typically consist of Andean food (creams and soups), and there is also an option for vegetarians.

The average price of food varies greatly, depending on the restaurant where you choose to eat; prices can range from 6 soles (1 dollar) in the more distant places from the city center to 30 soles (10 dollars) around Plaza de Armas.

What type of accommodation does this adventure include? Which are the hotels?

Accepted Answer

Lodging will be in 3 star hotels. In Cusco the hotels where you could stay are the Monasterio San Pedro, or Ayni Cusco Hotel; while in Aguas Calientes you will stay at the 4-star Golden Sunrise Machu Picchu.
If there are 2 people - the room can be in two single beds or with a double bed.
If there are 3 people - the room is with three single beds.
If there are 4 people - they have 2 rooms, each one can be with single beds or with a double bed.
If there are 5 people - they have 2 rooms, one with double occupancy and the other with three single beds.
If there are 6 people - they have 2 rooms, in double occupancy each one and each one can be in single beds or with a double bed.
Or it can be two triple occupancy rooms, with three single beds.
When making the reservation you must specify which type of room you prefer.

What’s the minimum and max age required? Is the price the same for underaged?

Accepted Answer

The minimum age for this experience is 3 years old. All minors must be accompanied by at least one responsible adult (+18 years) at all times, sharing a room with the available beds. Children aged 3 to 11 years and those aged 12 to 16 years pay a special rate, which you can view in the "extras" section. Persons who are 17 years old or older (at the time of travel) pay the regular rate. For children aged 3 to 7 years, it is necessary to rent a horse at the destination for the ascent to Laguna Humantay and Rainbow Mountain (approximate cost of 25 USD). The minimum recommended age by the operator for this experience is 12 years, and the maximum age is 55 years, due to the high altitude reached during the hike to Humantay Lake (Day 4) and Rainbow Mountain (Day 5), which reaches a maximum altitude of 5,200 mbsl. This altitude can cause altitude sickness, with symptoms being more intense in children and older adults. If a person suffers from altitude sickness, it will be very difficult for them to continue the ascent to the mountain and/or lake with the rest of the group, and it may be necessary to return to the starting point or wait for the group to descend according to the guide&#x27;s instructions at the destination.

Electricity current is 220V, 60Hz AC. Standard plugs or outlets accept round inputs, but many places will have dual-voltage plugs that take flat inputs, so you may need an adapter.

The last day, there are no scheduled activities. This day is exclusively for your departure from the destination. Remember that hotel check-out is at 12 pm. According to your flight itinerary, they will be picking you up to take you to the airport.

You need to be in good physical condition as you will be doing hiking activities and doing a lot of walking most of the time. NOTE: From Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu Citadel the level of physical effort for this day is medium. From Mollepata to Laguna Humantay the level of physical effort for this day is high. While for the Mountain of 7 colors the level of physical effort for this day is medium - high.

What clothes and/or gear should I take with me?

We recommend you bring a waterproof jacket / rain poncho, warm jacket, polo shirts, comfortable pants and sun hat. We also suggest you bring sunscreen (factor 35+) and insect repellent.

What’s the suggested baggage/backpack size?

We recommend carrying a backpack or small suitcase, you will have the luggage in your room, however it is possible to leave it at the hotel reception in Cusco while you wait for your room on the first day and/or transfer to the airport on the last day of your experience.

Huayna Picchu Mountain (Waynapicchu), is a hill better known as "young mountain". It has a very steep and narrow path, which includes several sections with steps. The ascent varies between 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the physical condition of each person. The imposing beauty of this natural attraction makes it a must-see for those who want an unforgettable memory of the Machu Picchu Citadel (archeological zone). The path is zigzag, its stairs are almost vertical with dizzying cliffs; and access is a bit difficult. It is not recommended for people who have heart problems, knee problems, asthma. Suitable for ages 12 and up.

Getting to the top and back takes an average of 3 to 4 hours depending on the physical condition of each person. It can be done as a family so it is not necessary to reach the top to appreciate the unusual beauty of the place.

If you add any extras that include the upgrade to the Vistadome train, the journey will be as follows: For the outbound trip (Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes), you will travel in the Vistadome Observatory, which includes a fully panoramic view, observatory car, live traditional dance and music, explanatory audio about the routes, ambient music, and onboard snack. Once there are between 30 - 7 days left before your experience begins, you will be able to find your flight itinerary in the &#x27;flights&#x27; section, located within your Local Adventures account.
