Itinerary

Day 1: Fly in Paro - Thimphu, Bhutan.

Stop At: Paro Airport Bird's Eye View Point, Paro Bhutan
Welcome to Bhutan. On a clear day, one will experience breathtaking views of major Himalayan peaks such as Jomolhari and Jichu Darkey in Bhutan from your flight. Upon arrival Bhutanโ€™s first gift to you will be clean fresh mountain air. Obtain your Bhutan visa which will be pre-paid, and after clearing Immigration and Customs, you will be met outside at the exit point by Bhutan Sky Trails representatives and escort you around for the sightseeing, onward to your hotel.

Drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. It is a comfortable around an hour drive from Paro to Thimphu. In Thimphu you will begin the day with the visit of National Memorial Chorten, Changangkha temple (one of the oldest temple in Thimphu.

Day 2: Thimphu - Thimphu (sightseeing)

Stop At: Thimphu Chorten (Memorial Chorten), Thimphu Bhutan
Today begin the day with drive to Sangay gang (overlooking point for Thimphu) next stop by Takin Sanctuary (The national animal), Dupthop Lhakhang (Nunnery), visit Folk Heritage Museum, National Library, Paper making, weaving center or Textile museum.

Visit Tashichho Dzong, the main secretariat building. This massive fortress houses part of the government Ministries, the office of the King and the Throne Room. It also houses the State Monastic Body and the office and the living quarters of the Chief Abbot.

Day 3: Thimphu - Punakha

Stop At: Punakha Dzong, Punakha 13001 Bhutan
Transfer to Punakha, across Dochula pass at an altitude of 3,050 meters, cutting through the majestic Himalayan range. We stop at the Dochula cafeteria for hot cup of tea/coffee. You will also make stop by Druk Wangyel chorten. After that continue your drive towards Punakha valley and take a short walk to Chimi lhakhang, a fertility shrine built in the 15thcentury. Hopeful young coupleโ€™s wanting children may be seen making offerings to the shrine and its builder, the notoriously playful and beloved saint Lama Drukpa Kuenley, also known as โ€œthe Divine Madman or Mad monk.โ€, After that visit the Punakha Dzong, which house the district administration offices. It is also the winter residence of the central monastic body and the Je Khenpo head monk of Bhutan. The dzong was damaged by fire in 1986, and recently renovated using traditional building techniques. It is one of the most beautiful Dzong in the country.

Day 4: Punakha - Trongsa

Stop At: Phobjikha Valley, Bhutan
Today drive to Trongsa approx 5hrs stopping along the way at Wangdue and there is a daliy market which will give you lots of opportunity for photo. The drive is very scenic across Pelela pass (3,380 meters) to Trongsa ascending through farm houses and Chendbji chorten, built in Nepalese style with gigantic Buddhaโ€™s eyes painted at the four cardinal points. Visit to Phobjikha valley, one of the most beautiful valley in Bhutan. Afterwards drive to Trongsa.

Day 5: Trongsa - Bumthang

Stop At: Bumthang Swiss Cheese and Wine Shop, Bumthang 00975 Bhutan
Begin you day with the visit of Trongsa Dzong built in mid-17 century and home of our monarch. Drive to Bumthang which is 3hrs drive across Yotongla pass (3,424 meters). Bumthang region encompasses four major valleys: Chumey, Chokhor, Tang and Ura. After reaching in Bumthang check in and visit Jakar Dzong built in 17thcentury, free evening to walk around the interesting set up Chamkhar town.

Day 6: Bumthang - Bumthang

Stop At: Burning Lake, Bumthang Bhutan
Visit Jambay lhakhang built in 7thcentury by the Tibetan Buddhist king Songtsen Gampo. According to Bhutanese history book, Guru Rinpoche, the central figure in Tibetan Tantric Buddhism, visited this valley in the 8thcentury and hid treasures of enlightenment, termas, throughout this valley and Bhutan. Once these treasures are discovered by a โ€œrevealerโ€, the benefit inherent in the treasure is dispersed and a monument, commemorating the great event, is often constructed. Kurjey Lhakhang, the monastery where Guru meditated, is one such place, and according to local lore, one can see the imprint of Guru Rinpocheโ€™s body on the rock where he once sat. Then walk for approximately 30 minutes across Chamkhar chhu to Tamshing lhakhang built in 1501 and founded by the great โ€œrevealer of treasures, Pema Lingpa. It contains exquisite paintings and statuary, said to date back to back to the time of the great revealer himself.Visit me- bartsho (Burning Lake). Terton Pema Lingpa discovered treasures which were hidden by Guru Rinpoche.

Day 7: Bumthang - Wangdue

Stop At: Gangkar Punsum, Bhutan
Today after breakfast drive to Wangdue. Make interesting rest stops along the way, it is scenic drive back and you will have time to take photography along the way. The drive is around 7hrs to Wangdue.

Day 8: Wangdue - Paro

Pass By: Dochula Pass, Thimphu Bhutan
After a leisurely morning, drive to Paro. Visit Paro National Museum and Paro Dzong. This massive fortress is located in the Paro valley and is approached by a gently sloping flagstone road and a beautiful wooden bridge roofed with shingles and abutted by two guardhouses. Today, the Dzong is the Administrative seat of the district of Paro and it also contains a state monastic community of about 200 monks. The central tower (โ€œUtseโ€) of the Dzong is one of the most beautiful in Bhutan with its superb woodwork. The Dzong was built in 1646 A.D.

Day 9: Paro - Paro

Stop At: Paro Taktsang, Taktsang Trail BT, Paro Bhutan
Transfer to Ramthangkha and begin the hike to Taktsang (Tigerโ€™s Nest) Monastery. Icon of Bhutan, This monastery clings to a cliff almost 490m above from the starting point of your hike. The mountainside viewpoint for this dramatically situated and most sacred site is accessible by walk of about 4-5 hours round trip. Enjoy lunch at the monasteryโ€™s cliff-side cafรฉ. Make a pilgrimage to Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the most sacred temples in Bhutan and built in 659 AD by Tibetan Buddhist king Songtsen Gampo.

Day 10: Depart Paro
