Day 1: Arrival
You will be picked up from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), upon arrival, and will be transferred to a tented camp where you will get settled in and make last minute arrangements for your exciting safari adventure ahead.
Day 2: Nairobi - Masai Mara National Reserve
You will begin at 8:30 a.m., embarking on an enthralling journey towards the south along the floor of the dramatic Great Rift Valley to reach the Masai Mara National Reserve.
An extension of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park this national reserve is also known as the seventh wonder of the world because of the great wildebeest migration, witnessed every year between June and September.
Millions of wildebeests and zebra cross the Mara River from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya in search of food and water and it is famous for its wide variety of resident wildlife all year round.
You will stop for lunch at the town of Narok and arrive at the reserve in time, to enjoy an afternoon game drive where you may have a chance of seeing the big five. This also is a home to different varieties of bird life and hosts the best savannah vegetation in the world. Marvel panoramic views of vast rolling plains and rounded hills covered with intermittent groves of acacia woodlands and dense thickets of scrub.
The Mara River and its tributaries which are margined by luxuriant riverine forest bisect the landscape. The famous Masai tribesmen live within the dispersal area of the game reserve. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Enchoro Wildlife Camp.
Day 3: Masai Mara Game Reserve
Today you will enjoy a full day game drive to absorb the beauty and splendor of the Mara. The reserve has the largest population of lions to be found in Kenya. Other animals to be seen here include buffalo, black rhino, hippopotamus, leopard, cheetah, zebra, Coke's hartebeest, white-bearded gnu, oribi, warthog, and Thomson's and Grant's gazelles. The bird life of Mara is as profuse as its mammalian fauna.
Today you will have a picnic lunch at the Mara River where you can enjoy your food while watching crocodiles and hippos lazing around in their natural habitat. This is a great way to take advantage of your time in the park and enjoy scenic views that surround you.
After lunch, you will continue your game drive in search for more wildlife. You will be dropped off at the Masai Village at around 5:00 p.m., for an opportunity to visit the Masai people and witness them singing and dancing as a part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. Upon arrival at the village, you will proceed for a nature walk with the Masai naturalist guide and will get to see herbs that are used as medication among the tribe.
As you return to the village, a campfire will be lit, and you will get to participate in an entertaining evening where you can dance with the local people. The chief will then share with you stories of their culture and tradition. You will also have a glimpse into their homes and social structure. Dinner will be served at the village followed by coffee and tea as you leave to return to your camp or lodge for overnight stay.
Tonight you will have the option to choose to sleep in an authentic Masai-style home with beds, located at the campsite.
Day 4: Masai Mara Game Reserve - Nakuru National Park
Today, you will depart towards the ornithological paradise of Lake Nakuru National Park, after an early breakfast. The park supports a wide ecological diversity of flamingos and other water birds, over 450 bird species have been recorded here.
You will arrive here at around 12:30 p.m., and will begin a game drive en route to your camp or lodge for check in and lunch. You will get to settle and relax and at around 04:00 p.m., and will then join yet another game drive and nature walk along the lake shores.
Dinner and overnight stay will be at Lake Nakuru Camp or lodge (depending on your chosen option).
Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park - Nairobi
You will have an early breakfast today and will then take your last game drive around the lake shores to see the diverse bird life. Return back to your accommodation for a delicious buffet lunch and then pack up your belongings for the return trip to Nairobi.
You will have a stop-over at the Rift Valley viewpoint for breathtaking photo opportunities of this 6,000-kilometre-long valley that stretches from the Red Sea to Mozambique and measures up to 100 kilometers in width. You will arrive at Nairobi by early noon and will be dropped off at your tented camp to rest.
In the evening you will visit the iconic Carnivore Restaurant for a delicious dinner of various game meats including crocodile, ostrich, buffalo, ox, and more basic options like chicken, pork, and beef.
Day 6: Bus transfers from Nairobi to Arusha
Today you will take a bus from Nairobi to Arusha in the morning, crossing the border from Kenya to Tanzania along the way. Upon arrival, you will be picked up at the bus station and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha. You will have the rest of the day with leisure time to relax, walk around town, and make last minute preparations for your upcoming safari adventure. Dinner is included this evening. Your overnight halt will be either at Arusha Hostel or a budget hotel.
Day 7: Arusha - Tarangire National Park
This morning you'll head to Tarangire NP for some game viewing. The game in this beautiful national park is plentiful and the magnificent bird watching will make a devotee out of even the most reluctant. It is also one of the very few places in Africa to see the famous tree-climbing lions. Overnight near Tarangire NP.
Day 8: Tarangire National Park - Serengeti National Park
Today we set out for the endless open plains and stunning skies of Serengeti National Park - a famous migration corridor and UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you'll have a chance to witness the great migration of wildebeest and zebra. After exploring the park we'll head to your lodge/camp in the heart of the Serengeti for dinner. Overnight in Serengeti NP.
Day 9: Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast venture into the endless open plains of Serengeti National Park wilderness for a morning game drive. You will discover why the fabled Serengeti typifies the dream of โOld Africaโ. Large prides of lions laze in the tall grasses; families of elephants feed on acacia bark and trumpet to each other across the plains; while giraffes, gazelles, monkeys, eland and the whole range of African wildlife present themselves in awe-inspiring numbers. If you are there during the spectacular wildebeest migration, you will be more than astonished! After this adventure, we'll travel to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater where you will overnight.
Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater & Return to Tarangire National Park
Today youโll rise early in the morning to descend the 600m high walls to the floor of the crater and get up close with one of Africa's seven natural wonders! Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is considered one of the most beautiful and unique places in Africa. Here you will find a haven of African wildlife and you might also be lucky enough to witness the endangered Rhino! Overnight near Tarangire NP.
Day 11: Tarangire National Park - Lake Manyara National Park - Return to Arusha
In the morning, drive to Lake Manyara National Park, which is located within the Great Rift Valley. Lake Manyara boasts a spectacular setting, famous for its tree-climbing lions and soda-ash lake. The park also provides the perfect introduction to Tanzaniaโs bird-life. The shores of the lake, encrusted with pink flamingo, attract more than 400 species of birds, many of them waterfowl or migrants. In the afternoon, drive back to Arusha.
Day 12: Departure
This marks the end of an incredible safari experience and you will bid goodbye to Kenya and Tanzania. You will be dropped off at Arusha Airport (ARK). Your breakfast is included.
