The protected area is 40,452 hectares (88,994 acres) of rugged geography, with some peaks reaching higher than 1,600 m (5,248 ft) above sea level, creating valleys and narrow canyons that shelter the descending rivers. As well as the Simpson, there are the Correntosos and Cascada de la Virgen rivers, branches of the Simpson, both surrounded by beautiful scenery and lush vegetation.
In terms of vegetation, there are mainly forests of coigรผes, tepas, maรฑรญo, ciruelillo, canelo and tepรบ. There is also chilco, which is the most abundant tree of the zone. In terms of fauna, the huemul is found in the eastern sector, where the geography is rocky, and on the steep slopes of the Andean and Huemules hills. The puma, on the other hand, lives in areas of medium altitude, spending the summer at a higher altitude and the winter on the plains. Other species which live in the reserve are the pudรบ, fox, gรผiรฑa, bandurrias, queltehues and a large variety of wild ducks

Its natural beauty and its archaeological culture heiress, make it one of the most beautiful wild areas that protects the flora and fauna of the place, at the same time still preserves Selknam culture heritage.
This park was created in 1970 and encompasses an area of 134,000 hectares (294,800 acres) to the south of Coyhaique. The stretch of the Carretera Austral that leads to the city of Cochrane crosses the mountainous chain of Cerro Castillo which separates the hydrographic basins of the Aysรฉn and Ibรกรฑez rivers. The most beautiful sites are Cerro Castillo (2,320 m. or 7,609 ft. above sea level), Cerro Iglesia (1,750m. or 5,740 ft.), and Conde Stone, a rock shaped over the years by natural elements to look like a human profile.

It is characterized by the so-called "Evergreen forest", composed of coigรผe, tepa and tepรบ, mainly, as well as enormous nalcas. Among its biggest attractions is the hanging glacier, impacting all tourists for its beauty and grandeur.
Located in the district of Puerto Cisnes, Queulat National Park has a surface of 154,093 hectares (339,004 acres) and is easily accessible. One of its most remarkable features is its evergreen forest, made up by species like coihue, tepa, tepuala, and Chilean rhubarbs. The fauna represented here is the pudรบ, kodkod, black woodpecker, caiquรฉn, black-necked swan, coypu, chucao tapaculo, and ringed kingfisher, among others.
Among the natural attractions is the Hanging Glacier, discovered in 1875 by Captain Enrique Simpson. According to his descriptions, the glacier was originally 100 meters (328 ft) from the sea shore; now it is 7,800 mts (25,584 ft) away.
Lake Risopatrรณn, Tempanos lagoon, Queulat bay, Padre Garcรญa and Cรณndor waterfalls, are just some of the most beautiful sites in the park, all of which can be discovered by following some of the park's trails.

Puerto Rรญo Tranquilo, on the Carretera Austral, is just a small village on the shores of the majestic Lago General Carrera, but a place where every tourist has to stop. Why? The answer is simpleโฆ this place has loads of extraordinary activities on offer.
A must for everybody is a boat or kayak tour to the Capillas de Mรกrmol or Marble Chapels. Thousands of years of erosion by wind and water have resulted in a masterpiece of natural art. Youโll be imposed by the game of light and colour in the caverns and tunnels, and the lakeโs transparent water.
The recently constructed 77km long Camino a Exploradores, a fantastic scenic road which departs in town and goes to the Exploradores Bay, has opened up a lot of possibilities in the area. This windy road packed with glaciers, rivers and lakes is absolutely impressive and is the gateway to visit the mighty Exploradores Glacier, where amazing ice walks are possible.
