      Your Shanghai backpacking tour starts today! After a free morning in the city, meet your Adventure Leader in your hostel, where you’ll get a pre-departure briefing. Here, you’ll learn about what the next few weeks hold for you!  


      After that, you’re off to the train station! It’s time to grab an overnight train to Guilin, ready for your transfer to Yangshuo.

      Say farewell to your Adventure Leader in Yangshuo, as you set off for the next leg of your Shanghai backpacking adventure – Chengdu! Your journey will take you across the country by train, where you’ll be warmly welcomed by your new Adventure Leader and escorted to your hostel for check-in.

      This morning, you’ll be treated to a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. You’re off to visit pandas! Head to the Giant Panda Breeding and Research Center, where you can learn all about the Center’s mission to breed and reintroduce pandas. While you can’t hold the pandas, you’ll get a chance to both get up close and learn about this amazing species.  


      After this, it’s time to brush up your Chinese skills! Your Adventure Leader will give you a Mandarin lesson, where you’ll learn all the key phrases you’ll need to make the most of your time in China.  


      If you’d like to learn more about China’s historical culture, this evening you can opt to attend a traditional Sichuan opera show.  

  • Day 7 Free Time In Chengdu

      oday is yours to spend independently, but for those seeking more adventure, why not consider joining us for some optional activities? You can choose to accompany us on a trip to Leshan, where you’ll encounter the world’s largest stone Buddha. Carved into the side of Mt. Lingyun, this colossal statue boasts over 1,300 years of history and is recognized as the tallest pre-modern statue. It attracts millions of visitors, including Buddhist pilgrims, turning it into a sacred destination and an ancient wonder of the world.


      In the evening, if you’re up for a culinary challenge, you can savor the famous Sichuan Hot Pot (if you dare!). Afterward, Chengdu is yours to explore and enjoy at your leisure!

  • Day 8 Travel To Xi’An

      If you’re in the mood for a leisurely morning, feel free to enjoy a relaxed start to your day at your own pace. However, if you’re eager to immerse yourself in the local community, consider visiting a local rehabilitation center that specializes in working with children with autism.


      In the early afternoon, bid farewell to Chengdu with a visit to Jinli & Chengdu People’s Park. This park offers a multitude of picturesque spots, including the Gold Water Stream, Goldfish Island, and the Potted Landscape Garden. Apart from relishing the charming landscapes, you can partake in activities like sailing on the artificial lake, sipping tea in the lakeside teahouse, and witnessing various exhibitions and performances on the Rockery Square.


      As the evening descends, it’s time to make your way to Xi’an, the next destination on your Shanghai backpacking tour. You’ll arrive in Xi’an tonight, marking the next exciting chapter of your China backpacking journey. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your new Adventure Leader and be guided to your hostel for some well-deserved rest.

      In the afternoon, you have the choice to embark on a bike ride atop the city walls, which boast a rich history dating back to the Ming Dynasty.


      Later on, you can delve into the history of the Silk Road as you explore the Bell-Drum Towers and the Muslim Quarter. Be sure to savor some delectable local street food while you’re there!

      This morning, you’re in for an awe-inspiring visit to one of China’s most iconic attractions – the Terracotta Warriors! The Terracotta Army in Xi’an is a remarkable collection of life-sized terracotta sculptures meticulously arranged in battle formations, faithfully recreating the grand imperial guard troops of Emperor Qin Shi Huang (259 – 210BC), the first emperor of the initially unified dynasty of Imperial China. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Terracotta Army is an absolute must-see for any visitor to Xi’an.


      In the evening, you can bask in the mesmerizing music and light fountain show held on the North Square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the Qujiang District.

      Following dinner, it’s time for your second Mandarin lesson – a chance to see just how much you’ve learned so far!

      If you’re an early riser, you may consider joining us on a journey to the world-renowned Shaolin Temple – the very birthplace of kung-fu. From there, you can embark on a hike up to the Dharma Cave, a spiritually significant site for Buddhist pilgrims. Your ascent will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the local shrines and temples, as well as sweeping vistas across the region.


      Alternatively, for those not as keen on martial arts, you can opt for an excursion to the Longmen Grottoes. This UNESCO World Heritage Site showcases an astonishing 100,000 intricately carved Buddhas!


      Following your morning adventure, you’ll have the choice to return for a late lunch at the guesthouse, leaving your evening free to explore. Make the most of it, but remember there’s an early start tomorrow!

      This morning, we rise before daybreak to catch a bullet train to our next destination – Beijing! We’ll arrive in the late morning, all set for a direct transfer to one of the most incredible experiences on your Shanghai backpacking tour – the Great Wall! Before we start our hike, we’ll pause for lunch at a local farm to fuel up for the adventure. Then, in the mid-afternoon, we’ll venture onto the Wall to trek through secluded, unrestored sections, where we’ll set up camp to witness the breathtaking sunset from one of the Wonders of the World.


      Please note: In case of cold weather before the end of April or after the end of September, we’ll stay in a guesthouse near the Wall instead of camping.

If you’re interested, you can join us for a walk through Tiananmen Square, a visit to the Forbidden City, and a leisurely stroll in Jingshan Park.


      In the evening, consider treating yourself to a captivating acrobatics show. These mesmerizing performances feature talented young artists recruited from all corners of China.

      In the afternoon, you can venture to the Nanluo district, known for being one of the best-preserved historical areas in Beijing. It’s famous for its traditional hutongs, siheyuan courtyards, and a bustling scene of bars, cafes, and handicraft shops.

      Make the most of another free morning and afternoon to explore the remaining highlights of Beijing. Whether you choose to visit the 798 art district, the Summer Palace, or any other intriguing spots in the city, don’t hesitate to seek recommendations from your Adventure Leader.


      In the late afternoon or early evening, we’ll transfer to Beijing station and embark on a night train journey bound for Hangzhou.

      After arriving in Hangzhou this morning, transfer to your hostel for a late breakfast. We hope you slept on the train! Next, we’re off to the famous West Lake, ready to take a stunning boat tour to one of the Lake’s beautiful islands.  


      Once you’ve checked in this afternoon, you’ve got time for an optional activity if you’d like – or you can take a couple of hours respite! If you’re keen to stay vertical, why not check out China’s National Tea Museum, or the Lingyin Temple? 


      This evening, it’s an unmissable hike up Jiuyao Mountain to see the stunning sunset from there. Before you head back down to street level for dinner and a free evening to explore. Make sure you check out Hefang Road – the most famous ancient street in town!

      Later in the day, you can choose to stroll to the Yu Gardens, a bustling historical site once belonging to a prominent dignitary’s opulent family quarters. You can also explore People’s Square before heading to Nanjing Road, known as the world’s busiest shopping street.


      Afterward, take a leisurely walk along the Bund, an architectural marvel that showcases global influences. To conclude your day, venture to the top floor of a skyscraper to admire the mesmerizing Shanghai skyline from a rooftop bar. Enjoy your free evening!
