      Welcome to Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania. You will be met at the airport by your tour guide and taken to the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel. (Travel time approx. 30 min., 35 km).

      Day 2: City Tour Of Nouakchott

      After breakfast, you will embark on a full-day city tour of Nouakchott. At the camel market you will see how the beloved desert ships are traded and in the national museum you will get a first insight into the fascinating history and culture of the country. After a shady lunch break, continue to the Port de Pรชche with its colorful fishing boats and hustle and bustle. In the late afternoon, the Zeinart Gallery awaits you, a meeting place where works by artists for whom Mauritania is the land of their life, their heart and their inspiration are exhibited. Overnight stay at the hotel.

      Day 3: Nouakchott And The Sand Dunes Of Aoujaet

      You leave the coast and head north-east to the mining settlement of Akjoujt. The first mighty dune fields of Erg Amatlich soon come into view, which are repeatedly interrupted by small green palm oases. In the afternoon you reach your camp at the foot of an imposing dune ridge of Erg Amatlich. Climb one of the up to 300 m high dunes and enjoy the impressive panoramic view of the desert sea of the Western Sahara. Overnight stay in a tent. (Travel time approx. 5-6 hours, 335 km).

      Day 4: From Aoujaet Over The Pass From Tivoujar To Atar

      In the morning, you will go on a 45-minute hike over the sand dunes. You will cross the Irich Valley, which is a favorite place for nomads due to its numerous acacia trees and camel grass. Enjoy a small tea with the village chief before descending into a narrow rocky valley lined with huge sand dunes at Tivoujar. Reach Atar in the late afternoon. Overnight stay in a hostel. (Travel time approx. 4-5 hours, 155 km).

      Day 5: From Atar To The "Eye Of Africa", The Guelb Er Richat

      Early in the morning, you set off towards the eastern edge of the Atar Plateau to Ouadane. You will have lunch in Tenlaba before heading through a wadi towards Ouadane, which you will visit the next day. Continue to Guelb er Richat, the "Eye of Africa", a spectacular ring-shaped formation in the middle of the Sahara. Overnight stay in a tent. (Travel time approx. 5 hours, 240 km).

  • Day 6 Day 6: Ouadane - Tanouchert Oasis - Chinguetti

      Day 6: Ouadane - Tanouchert Oasis - Chinguetti

      Today you will visit the UNESCO-protected village of Ouadane, which is both historically and culturally significant. On the way along the southern edge of the Atar plateau, you will then reach the Tanouchert oasis with its scattered nomad tents. It is worth making a stop here to take part in the tea ceremony, which is an integral part of everyday life. Afterwards, continue to Chinguetti. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is considered a holy city by many Muslims and was known throughout the region for many centuries as a center of religious scholarship. Overnight stay in a hostel (rooms with shared showers and toilets). (Travel time approx. 5 hours, 140 km).

  • Day 7 Day 7: Mโ€™Haireth Oasis - Terjit Oasis - Atar

      Day 7: Mโ€™Haireth Oasis - Terjit Oasis - Atar

      You leave the impressive Chinguetti in the early morning. On the way, pay a brief visit to the oasis of Mโ€™Haireth. Then descend to the Terjit oasis. Here you enjoy your lunch in the shade of the palm trees by the fresh water springs. Then return to Atar. Overnight stay in a hostel. (Travel time approx. 4-5 hours, 155 km).

  • Day 8 Day 8: Atar - Choum - Beni Amira

      Day 8: Atar - Choum - Beni Amira

      You will reach Choum, a small village around the local desert station of the worldโ€™s longest ore train, on a well-maintained tarred road. Your route today and tomorrow will take you along the tracks and you will most likely experience one of these seemingly endless freight trains with up to 250 wagons up close. You continue on desert tracks to Beni Amira, the third largest rock monolith in the world, in the middle of the Sahara. You will set up camp not far from here today. Overnight stay in a tent. (Travel time approx. 5-6 hours, 160 km).

      Day 9: From Beni Amira To Cap Tafarit

      A long day of driving with a varied landscape awaits you today. In the morning you follow the tracks of the ore train. Arrive at Cap Tafarit, where you set up camp right by the sea. The cape is located in the Arguin National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and is an important wintering site for migratory birds from Europe. The shallow, fish-rich waters with many small islands are also home to sea turtles and dolphins. After the desert days, you are back at the sea with its fantastic sunsets! Overnight stay in a tent. (Travel time approx. 7-8 hours, 390 km).

  • Day 10 Day 10: Cap Tafarit - Tessot - Nouamghar

      Day 10: Cap Tafarit - Tessot - Nouamghar

      In the morning, take a walk along the cape before continuing to the villages of the Imraguen fishermen in the Banc dโ€™Arguin National Park. A visit to Rgueiba, where the fishermen build their traditional boats called "lanches", is particularly worthwhile. These are perfectly adapted to the shallow waters off the coast. You then continue south to Nouamghar, where you set up camp by the large sand dunes. Overnight stay in a tent. (Travel time approx. 4-5 hours, 215 km).

  • Day 11 Day 11: Return Journey To Nouakchott

      Day 11: Return Journey To Nouakchott

      After a short hike, you will meet your vehicles and drive south along the beach. At the gates of the capital, you stop at a beach restaurant for lunch. Continue into the capital and visit the harbor with its brightly painted fishing boats and lively fish market. A day room in your hotel is at your disposal before you are taken to the airport in the late evening. (Travel time approx. 3-4 hours, 135 km).
