Quechuas Expeditionsโ€™ Safety Protocols With these announcements, we also want to let you know that Quechuas Expeditions is ready to operate the allowed tours with all the needed safety protocols. To guarantee an amazing but safe experience to you and your loved ones. The protocols are as follows: All of our staff. Including guides, porters, horsemen, cooks and drivers will go through a COVID19 molecular discard test before being able to work. Our doctor will check on our staff to go through a discard triage for any risk of infection before every service. Temperature control is mandatory to both staff and passengers. Hand-washing is mandatory for both our staff and clients. Quechuas Expeditions guides always carry a personal first-aid kit including masks, gloves and thermometers, etc. The usage of masks is mandatory to both staff and passengers. The 1 and a half meters minimum-distance between each person will be respected and organized by our guides. Our vehicles will be disinfected following the biosecurity protocols given by the Health Ministry in Peru before and after every service. Inside our vehicles there will always be masks, hand sanitizer and a first-aid kit with oxygen masks, etc. in case any of our clients need them. We will only use 50% of the vehicle capacity in order to respect the social distancing requirements.

All dietary requirements from vegans, Lacto-allergies, and general dislikes can be catered for so long as prior warning is given when booking the trip Food: The Quechuas Expeditions cheffs cook delicious meals that many previous Hikkers have raved about. We honor all food restrictions. Be sure to remind your tour guide of any food restrictions at the beginning of your trek. Food is typically served family-style. You will enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day of the trek, along with a happy hour of tea and snacks. You will also be provided a snack each morning, for you to enjoy along the hike. Your last meal with your chef will be after breakfast on day four. Lunch the last day is not included. This tour offers Jain, Vegetarian, Vegan, Halal and Kosher food options on request. Simply let Quechuas Expeditions know the food option that you prefer.

Transport

Transportation: All your transportation is included in this trek. You will be picked up directly from your hotel and brought to the start of the trek, to the trailhead. then enjoy your trek, on the last days, and you will be booked on the expedition train leaving that afternoon. If you prefer, you can upgrade your train leaving Aguas Calientes to the Vistadome train for $60 per person. Once you arrive at the train station, we will bring you back to your hotel in Cusco.

Not Included Rentals: Every trekker needs a sleeping bag when camping. walking sticks (with rubber tips) are optional but encouraged. If you donโ€™t want to bring any of the above, they are all available for rent: Sleeping Bag (Goose down Mummy style): $25 Walking Poles (Pair): $20 Huayna Picchu: Huayna Picchu is the mountain that stands next to Machu Picchu. It is a 45 minute hike to the top. Going back down is quite steep, if you are scared of heights. This is done after your tour of Machu Picchu. The cost is $80 per person. Arrangements need to be made at least two month in advance(See availability), due to popularity. Since you are hiking the Salkantay Trail, you will experience a similar view from the Postcard site Please understand that weather is out of our control. Day packs: Day packs are not provided by Quechuas Expeditions. You must bring your own. Be sure you donโ€™t being anything too large, as you donโ€™t want it to be too heavy while youโ€™re Hiking. Plus, Machu Picchu will not allow you to bring in a bag larger than 25L, so if you have a large backpack it will need to be stored before your tour (We have a free storage). Only essentials are needed while trekking: water, snack, camera, sunhat, warm layer, rain layers, insect spray, sunscreen, and a Personal first-aid kit. Headlamps: It is strongly encouraged to bring a headlamp for your night camping. Flights: Flying to Cusco can be tricky. Delays occur often and it is not uncommon for flights to be cancelled. Please be sure to arrive in the city at least two days before your trek start date. LAN Peru is the most reliable of the airlines. SKY and JETSMART Airlines are acceptable companies, as well. You will not return from your trek until around 8 p.m. on the last day, so be sure your flight is not until the next day, when leaving Cusco. Meals: Breakfast on Day 1 and Lunch on Day 5 Entrance Fee to Salkantay and Humantay Lake is 20 soles and Entrance fees to Hot Springs Colcalmayo 10 soles (An Extra Transportation Round Trip to Cocalmayo Hot spring, you can organize with your Guide) Gratuities: Tipping is always appreciated and should be based completely on your satisfaction. Although it may not be customary to you, it is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels. Travel Insurance: This is not required, but always recommended. For those of you who live at sea-level, landing in Cusco will take an adjustment period. Most people need one or two days to adjust. In case you have a hard time adjusting to the altitude, it is suggested to have protection for missed tours.

      We pick you up from your hotel Between 4:30 am to 5:00 am to drive for about 2 hours to Mollepata where we stop to have breakfast after we will keep driving to challacancha where we start hiking and as soon as we are at challacancha the cook and the horseman will pack all the camping equipment and cooking stuff and we start hiking. the first 25 minutes will be a little bit uphill to get to the Water Channel where we will have a nice place with panoramic views of beautiful snow-capped mountains (Humantay; 4120m/13500ft and Salkantay; 6271m/20575ft) โ€“ just the start! We will begin our Salkantay trek towards Soraypampa our first Salkantay Trek camping spot (3800 m/11750ft; the highest and coldest campsite of the trip) we will be very close to the second highest Salkantay snow-capped -mountain of Cusco. Then after Lunch, we will go to Humantay Lake and explore around and then we will walk down to our best campsite in soraypampa and sleep at SKY LODGE DOME

      After having our Salkantay Trek breakfast we start walking at about 5:30 am, because this day will be the longest day the first 4 hours are uphill to get to the highest point of the Salkantay Trek (4650m/15200ft) located halfway between 2 huge mountains; Salkantay on the right and Tucarhuay on the left. From the pass, the views of the 2 snow-capped mountains are incredible. There is a possibility of snow here. After a rest, we will continue our walk (downhill) through a dramatic cloud forest towards Huayracpunku, where we will have lunch. We hike again after lunch in the direction of the start of the jungle until we reach our second Salkantay trek camping spot of chaullay (3000m/9800ft). We Sleep in SKY LODGE DOME

      After breakfast, at 6.30 am, we start walking through the upper jungle crossing the Lluskamayo River and a variety of little brooks to reach Loreta Playa Sahuayaco walking for about 6 hours. Today we will pass through valleys and have wonderful views of waterfalls, tropical fruits, and plants, and as soon as we are at Loreta Playa Sahuayaco we will have lunch and we go and explore the coffee Plantation and have a wonderful coffee experience, and after we go down to Cocalmayo hot spring (Optional with extra cost and this will be organized by your guide once you are there) Then come back to sleep at SKY LODGE DOME at Loreta Playa Sahuayaco3RD DAY: Total distance: 16 km (approx.)

      We will have breakfast at 6:00 am and leave our camping spot in Loreta Playa Sahuayaco. We walk up on an original Inca Trail to the Llactapata site where you will get a chance to see Machupicchu far away (one of the most beautiful places to see Machupicchu) then We continue walking, passing a variety of crop plantations, coca, banana, etc. until we reach the hydroelectric station. And after lunch, we keep walking for about two and half hours along the train road till reached Aguas Calientes town where we will spend the night in a hotel. In Aguas Calientes, you can take advantage of the thermal springs in the town (entrance 10 soles) a real treat after finishing the Salkantay Trek

      4TH DAY: Total distance: 12 km (approx.)

      Salkantay trek is an important day, We wake up early morning about 4 am to then to 4:30 to have breakfast and leave to walk up to Machupicchu which takes one and half hours up to Machu Picchu but there is another option to catch the first bus which leaves 5:30 am to Machupicchu (25-minutes long) to appreciate the magnificent city as the sun is rising. A walking tour (approximately 2 hours) is given by your Guide and after this, you can explore the mysterious city by yourselves. If you still have the energy you can also climb Huaynapicchu (2720m/8890ft) It takes 45 minutes to reach the top. (Huaynapicchu must be booked in advance) And after enjoying Machu Picchu you have to go down to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Ollantaytambo and then the bus back to Cusco.
