Amended Booking Policy 07/2020 African Sunsets Travel is committed to providing our agents and guests both flexibility and security in these uncertain times. We have therefore amended our original revised terms & conditions on COVID-19. The below terms as outlined will replace the previous release and are applicable as of 18th May 2020. These conditions will remain in place until such time as the WHO declares the pandemic over, or restrictions impacting inbound travel in the countries African Sunsets Travel operates in are lifted, by which time African Sunsets Travelsโ€™ standard terms & condition will be activated again. The below terms & conditions apply to all African Sunsets Travel Guided Private Tours in Southern African and East Africa. We will endeavour to apply the same terms for tailor-made travel, however these may differ depending on our partnerโ€™s policies.     Confirmed Bookings Travelling 01 May โ€“ 31 December Guided Private Safaris: Anyone travelling between 1st May and 31st December 2020 can postpone to any time or season for future dates up until the end of December 2021. In the event that guests are travelling after December 2020; we recommend waiting before making a decision on moving the departure. We are currently prioritising travellers with immediate travel plans and guests travelling until the end of December 2020. We will retain or request if not paid already the 50% deposit paid for the original booking and will apply standard payment terms to the revised dates. All deposits have to be pre-paid with immediate effect. If guests are unsure of their future travel arrangements, we will automatically provisionally book them for the same dates in 2021. This will be subject to availability. In these instances, provisional bookings will be held for 90 days which allows guests time to consider when theyโ€™d like to travel. Should guests want to postpone travel booked after the currently proposed โ€œHibernationโ€ period (travel starting from 01 January 2021), our standard cancellation fee will apply. This may be amended depending on border closures and/or travel bans being lifted. We recommend that guests wait until 45 days prior to their confirmed date of travel in order to monitor the global status of travel restrictions. Once a booking has been postponed to new dates in 2020 or 2021, our standard cancellation and payment terms and conditions will apply to the new travel dates. The above cancellation terms apply for all African Sunsets Travelsโ€™ guided group tours. Confirmed Bookings Travelling 01 May โ€“ 31 August 2021 FIT Travel and Private Guided Safaris: For FIT travel and private guided safaris, we will endeavour to apply the same policies, however this is subject to third party supplier negotiation and will be dealt with on a case by case basis. Once a FIT booking or Private guided safari has been postponed to new dates for travel later in 2020 or 2021, any further postponement arrangements prior to 60 days before travel will carry an admin fee of US$ 300 per booking.       New Bookings โ€“ Free Cancellation & More Flexibility In order to provide guests and partners with more flexibility and security, we have revised our terms & conditions for new bookings on Guided Private Safaris: Extension of all 2020 rates until 31st December 2021 until further notice. Any bookings made + 90 days prior to arrival, are allowed to be provisionally held for 21 days until further notice. Should we receive a confirmed booking for the spaces hold, we will require you to confirm your booking within 5 days with a deposit being paid. Free cancellation for any new bookings received up to 30 days before travel if reason for cancellation is COVID-19 related (please see details below). In order to confirm a booking, a deposit will be requested as per our standard T&Cs and booking will be 100% refundable for cancellation, less 8% administration and bank fees,  up to 30 days before the date of arrival. Final payment will be requested as per our standard T&Cโ€™s. Standard Cancellation Policy for bookings on Guided Private Safaris: 21 days to 29 days prior to departure: 30 % of the total rate 14 days to 20 days prior to departure: 50 % of the total rate 8 days to 13 days prior to departure: 80 % of the total rate Less than 8 days prior to departure: 95 % of the total rate Refund Policy for New Bookings if Cancellation Occurs due to Covid-19 Related Reasons Between confirmation and 30 days prior to arrival: 100 % refund of monies received, less 8% administration and bank fees or credit to the value of money received for postponed / future travel. From 30 days prior to arrival: Cancellation fee will be charged as per above; the outstanding amount will either be refunded or held as credit for future travel. These revised cancellation terms only apply to COVID-19 related reasons for cancellation, these include: The World Health Organisation has not revised the Pandemic status The government in the guestโ€™s country of residence restricts all but essential travel The destinations the guest is travelling to are under official government sanctioned lockdown that prohibits guests from traveling. If some but not all of the destinations are impacted the guest will be offered the option to re-route into other destinations, refunded or held as a credit according to the revised policy. The destinations have no formal lock-down but have closed their border either to international travellers or to travellers from the guestโ€™s country of residence. International flights are cancelled with no alternative routing available for guests to use to reach the destinations in the itinerary. Any reason for cancellation not listed above, African Sunsets Travel Standard Terms & Conditions apply

  • Day 1 Welcome To Namibia

      On arrival at Windhoek Airport, you will be met and transferred to your accommodation. The rest of the afternoon will be spent exploring Windhoek city historical sites on a guided tour from 12pm - 4pm.  

      This evening you will meet your guide and the rest of your group at the lodge at 18h00 for your pre-departure meeting.

  • Day 2 Drive To Namib Desert

      Drive To Namib Desert

      We have breakfast at 630am and at 8am we will start moving south. We will make our way towards the Namib Naukluft National Park to our accommodation for the next two nights. 

      The Namib naukluft park contains what is considered to be the oldest desert in the world. 

      At 4pm we will drive and explore the Sesriem Canyon, which was carved millions of years ago by the Tsauchab River.

  • Day 3 Climb The Dunes

      Climb The Dunes

      We have an early morning wake up, have tea and coffee and drive to visit the worldโ€™s highest sand dunes at Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. These dunes, which can reach heights of over 300 m, are absolutely spectacular and provide for a fantastic photo opportunity. With luck, there may even be water in the vlei (lake). 

      First stop is DUNE 45, we hike up for sunrise

      Then we will drive to Deadvlei and Big Daddy Dunes as well as Sossusvlei.

      We are back at the lodge for lunch at 12pm

  • Day 4 Namib Desert To Swakopmund

      The day is spent driving through the Namib Naukluft National Park on our way to Swakopmund. The Namib-Naukluft Desert is an ancient land with an ageless spirit. It is home to some of the rarest plant and animal species in the world. Sightings of the unique fauna and flora are a must on a Namibian safari. The animals of this harsh landscape include the oryx, springbok and Hartmannโ€™s Mountain Zebra. En-route we make a stop in the small town of Walvis Bay where you may spot a variety of birds including flamingoโ€™s in the lagoon. We arrive at the charming coastal town of Swakopmund in the late afternoon.

      Swakopmund to Damaraland via Spitzkoppe Hills

      08.00am - After breakfast, depart southwards towards the coast and on your way meet the locals of the Himba and Damara tribes, marvel at the amazing views of Spitzkoppe Hill, amazing views as you take a hike up the hills.

      Desert Elephants and Historical Damaraland.

      After breakfast , you are taken to explore and enjoy a morning activity as we drive along the guab river searching for desert elephants and lions. 

      Return to Lodge for lunch and at 3pm  we get to Damaraland and visit the ancient rock engravings of Twyfelfontein.

      Twyfelfontein is a spectacularly scenic area, featuring one of the largest and most important concentrations of rock art in Africa. The name โ€˜Twyfelfonteinโ€™ translates to โ€˜Fountain of Doubtโ€™, which refers to the perennial spring situated in the impressive Huab valley flanked by the slopes of a sandstone Table Mountain.

      After breakfast we depart our lodge to visit a Damara tribe village museum from 9am - 10am.

      You have an optional stop at Petrified forests as well - not included in the price. We will drive via Khorixas and stop for lunch at Outjo and in the afternoon we will enter the Etosha National Park via the Andersson gate, named after Karl Johan Andersson, one of the first European explorers to come across the Etosha pan, which means โ€œGreat White Placeโ€ in the Ndonga dialect of the Ovambo tribe.  We fill the next two days with game drives in the hopes of spotting lion, leopard, elephant and rhino as well as cheetah, giraffe, zebra and the numerous types of antelope the park has to offer.  Our nights are spent at the flood-lit waterholes or viewpoints encountering the parkโ€™s various nocturnal animals that come to drink. Etosha was declared a National Park in 1907 and it is home to approx. 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, surprisingly, one species of fish.

      We have the opportunity to spend the day on 2  game drives. In our open 4ร—4 vehicle we will explore the Game Reserve on morning and afternoon game drives, hopefully spotting a variety of games that frequent this region. This large area is renowned for its concentration of mammals and it is not unusual to see many different types of wildlife during just one game drive. 

      Game viewing is seasonal; depending on the time of the year you may see different species in different areas. The best time for game viewing is May - September.

      During this season, in order for us to offer the best game viewing possible, extra driving may be booked at night with the park.
