Itinerary of your trip Diamonds Delight (21 Days)

  • Day 1 Day 1: Let It Go!
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 1: Let It Go!

Today your plane leaves for Namibia, the land of endless space.

      Notes
If you have booked an extension to look forward to, you will already be on site and will meet the other travel guests tomorrow.
  • Day 2 Day 2: Welcome To Kalahari
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 2: Welcome To Kalahari

Your tour guide is looking forward to meeting you at Windhoek airport after landing. Through the foothills of the Kalahari, famous for its red sand, you will drive through Dordabis and Uhlenhorst to your accommodation. Generally known as desert, the Kalahari is now classified as semi-desert. Large parts of the sandy areas are covered with grass and occasional acacias. Characteristic for the Kalahari are the red longitudinal dunes, which run parallel to the prevailing wind direction and, in contrast to the dunes of the Namib, do not migrate. The afternoon is yours to do with as you please. Relax in your quarters or watch the wildlife at the feeding station.

      Meals
Dinner is included in the price.

      Accommodation
      Camelthorn Kalahari Lodge
Camelthorn Kalahari Lodge is situated in the Intu Afrika Kalahari Game Reserve, nestled between two dunes under tall camelthorn trees. Here, the wonderland of the Kalahari awaits you as you would imagine it: red dunes overgrown with yellow grass, wide dune valleys where camelthorn trees proudly defy the conditions. In the midst of it all, springbok, oryx antelope, wildebeest, zebra, and ostrich, to name a few, roam the bush, sometimes leisurely, sometimes faster. The rustic chalets are spacious and blend harmoniously into the landscape. A swimming pool awaits you for refreshment. A special feature of Camelthorn: The San, the original inhabitants of the Kalahari, live on the grounds of the lodge.

      Notes
The driving distance is about 240 kilometers. The driving time is about 3 hours.
Canโ€™t get enough? Our additional recommendation:
Take a sunset drive of about two hours, a special African experience: Kalahari dunes, wide valleys, red earth, yellow grass, green camel thorn trees and here and there springboks, oryx antelopes and ostriches moving gracefully in this timelessly beautiful dune world. The minimum number of participants is 2, the price per person is NA-$ 565 (valid until 31.10.2023).
  • Day 3 Day 3: Kalahari To Fish River Canyon
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 3: Kalahari To Fish River Canyon

After a leisurely breakfast, you will head south to Fish River Canyon, which is the second largest canyon in the world. On the way you will stop at the quiver tree forest of Garas. This is lovely, imaginative and full of humor. Marvel at the quiver trees, which owe their name to the San people. The San, with 20,000 years the oldest population group of southern Africa, made with much skill from their wood quivers for arrows.

      Meals
Meals included are breakfast and dinner.

Canyon Lodge is located just a few kilometers from the entrance to Fish River National Park. Built in 1910, the farmhouse has been converted into a restaurant. The natural stone bungalows, charmingly integrated into the landscape, are thatched. They nestle between the mighty granite rocks and convey the feeling of living in the middle of nature. A curved swimming pool with a great view of the surrounding granite rocks belongs to the lodge.

      Notes
The driving distance is about 450 kilometers. The driving time is about 5 ยฝ hours.
  • Day 4 Day 4: Mighty Fish River Canyon
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 4: Mighty Fish River Canyon

Today you are literally standing in front of the abyss, fortunately a truly grandiose one. Formed by a break in the geological formation and then eroded for millions of years, the Fish River Canyon is one of Africaโ€™s natural wonders. About 160 kilometers long and with a depth of up to 549 meters, it winds its way through the south of the country. Be sure to walk along the canyonโ€™s eastern rim and gaze out over the eternal expanse. From the main overlook, look down on Hellโ€™s Bend, the most imposing example of the canyonโ€™s winding course. Itโ€™s hard to leave this awe-inspiring place. At sunset, youโ€™ll take a one-hour walk.

      Meals

  • Day 6 Day 6: Kolmanskop And Lรผderitz
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 6: Kolmanskop And Lรผderitz

Today you will visit Kolmanskop, a former diamond town. It is not for nothing that this settlement is also called a ghost town, as it is deserted except for its visitors. Here you will enter dilapidated, spectacular houses, whose interiors are filled with dune sand up to the windows or even up to the ceilings. You will also travel to the Atlantic coast to Lรผderitz. The town, once the entrance to the colony of German Southwest Africa, experienced a strong boom due to the diamond discoveries from 1908 on, only to fall into stagnation afterwards. Today Lรผderitz is a huge open-air museum of Art Nouveau. A drive along the coast will also take you past the Diaz Cross, and on the way back youโ€™ll stop at the desert horses of Garub. Your guide will tell you the legends about these animals.

      Notes
The driving distance is approximately 250 kilometers. The driving time is about 3 hours.

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 7: From The Restricted Area To Namib-Naukluft National Park

Along the granite mountains shimmering blue on the horizon, through the former flat sea of the NamibRand, you will reach your next accommodation today. The landscape changes from large rocky outcrops to an endless desert landscape. The Namib is considered the oldest desert in the world. The name Namib comes from the Nama language and means "empty place" or "place where there is nothing". In the late afternoon, walk with your guide to a special place where you can watch the sunset in the silence of the desert.

      Meals
Breakfast and dinner are included in the price.

      Desert Hills Lodge
The Desert Hills Lodge in the foothills of the Naukluft enchants not only with its magnificent view over the endless expanse of the Namib. Covered and lined with straw, they are optimally equipped for the desert climate. Large panoramic windows provide a magnificent view of the landscape. Day 8: The Dunes At Sossuvlei

Itโ€™s still dark when you set off for the gigantic dunes at Sossusvlei, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the way to the vlei, you will enjoy the morning atmosphere in this colorful dune valley. The last five kilometers to the Vlei are covered in a four-wheel drive shuttle, as normal vehicles cannot cope with the masses of sand. You walk through the enchanting world of dunes and try to climb one of the sand mountains, which are up to 350 meters high. As soon as you walk through the Dead Vlei with its over 500 year old dead acacias, you know that it bears its name rightly. Before you leave the park, explore the Sesriem Canyon on foot. The main building, like everything here created with natural materials, nestles against a hill and offers a seemingly endless view of the vast plains and small mountain formations of the typical Namibian landscape. The walking trail that informs about the peculiarities of certain trees, cozy sitting areas, two pools and Zelda Soltauโ€™s revitalizing steam showers, massages and treatments at ZenSations Spa complete your stay.

      Notes
The driving distance is approximately 350 kilometers. The driving time is approximately 5 hours.
