  • Day 1 Day 1: Saturday: Amsterdam, Boarding The Latest At 2 Pm, Sailing To Spaarnwoude, Cycling To Haarlem.

      Day 1: Saturday: Amsterdam, Boarding The Latest At 2 Pm, Sailing To Spaarnwoude, Cycling To Haarlem.

      When you arrive on board the ship, you can put your luggage in your cabin and then enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. It is also a good moment to become acquainted with the guide, skipper and crew and of course your fellow passengers. You will leave Amsterdam cruising on the river IJ to Spaarndam. From there youโ€™ll try out your bikes to Haarlem. Appr. 15 Km.

      The ship is berthed in the city centre, with a view of St Bavoโ€™s Church and with easy access to the Grote Markt with its many outdoor cafรฉs.

      From Haarlem you visit the Keukenhof gardens, the most beautiful spring park in the world. The Keukenhof is the place where the spring breaks. In the Keukenhof various gardens and gardening styles can be found: the English Landscape Garden, the Historical Garden, the Natural Garden, the Japanese Natural Garden, the Formal Garden and three special colours gardens. Spread throughout the entire park there are approximately eighty sculptures from well-known Dutch artists as well as several other art objects, such as the collection โ€˜Surprising Tulipsโ€™. 

      You will continue your tour over country roads, along river banks and channels to the city with one of the oldest universities of the world: Leiden. Rembrandt was born here. As on most days, after dinner you can take a walk through the city.

      Flowers as far as the eye can see today. Purple, pink, red, yellow, no wonder the bulb fields were a source of inspiration for many painters.

      An early start of the day with a visit at 7 oโ€™clock of the Flower Auction in Aalsmeer. After this visit you will embark the Feniks again for a belated breakfast. In Amsterdam you take your bike again to cross the IJ and visit the old mills on the Zaanse Schans.

      From Wormerveer you bike through the polders of the northern part of Holland. Just like in the southern Holland province, you will find bulb flowers just behind the dunes. Stopover in Alkmaar, the city of the cheese, clog makers and ancient town centre.

      From Alkmaar you will bike to the sea along bulb fields, in the dunes and have your lunch on the beach. Then to the picturesque town Purmerend. Have your tea or coffee, drink and dinner. If the museum is open it is possible to visit it after dinner.

      The last day of your trip you visit old cities like Monnickendam and Edam. Hard to imagine, but these towns once were serious merchant competitors of Amsterdam. In the centre of both towns you can still see how many of these towns looked like in the 16th and 17th century.
