This tour takes in the monasteries of Meteora; serene, spiritual and magical alongside the world’s deepest gorge with it’s dramatic, breath taking views. The monasteries were the work of hermit monks who scaled cliff faces to their building sites. To them Meteora’s inaccessibility was an asset, a place of retreat from ‘the bloody incursions of the Ottoman empire, and offering a lofty seclusion that quite literally brought them closer to God’. Our tour offers you the opportunity to discover the rocky pinnacles and cliff-top monasteries of the Meteora and the spell-binding mountain landscapes of the Pindos National Park.
On the second half of the tour follow pristine hiking trails through the unspoilt Zagori region of Greece which incorporates the Pindos Mountains and the impressive World's Longest Vikos Gorge. Delight in following routes between traditional stone villages, crossing ancient bridges and in the delicious local cuisine at day’s end.
Finally we enjoy an overnight stay in Thessaloniki for exploration and sightseeing.
