One last suitcase check and you’re on your way to the airport. Lunar landscapes in El Teide National Park, black beaches, spectacular mountain scenery - your anticipation of Tenerife could hardly be greater! Touchdown: the warm Canary Islands sun shines promisingly in your face. First things first: you pick up your rental car and off you go. Always with you: the deep blue sea on your right. With the windows open, you let the wind blow around your nose as you head north. Your destination: San Cristóbal de La Laguna - or more precisely, the pretty old town with its colourful facades of stately town mansions, churches and monasteries, where the past and present harmonize perfectly. Park your rental car, check into your accommodation and arrive in peace and quiet. Last important task of the day: find the perfect food spot for tonight. Enjoy the taste!

The Anaga National Park takes you into a mystical world of mist and laurel forests. The road winds its way through the landscape, stopping time and again at the viewpoints at the side of the road to capture the breathtaking views with your camera. It’s best to leave your rental car at the Mirador Cruz del Carmen and follow the "path of the senses" through the dense greenery. Gentle rays of sunlight fall through the treetops and create magical vibes. Back in La Laguna, you can drift through the exciting alleyways of the old town. The historic colonial houses tell of days long gone when La Laguna was an important spot on the trade route between America and Asia.

Tenerife and the famous Teide National Park belong together like Bonnie and Clyde. That’s why today is all about the magical volcanic landscape. Serpentine by serpentine, you make your way through small villages and forests until the landscape becomes increasingly barren. And suddenly it lies before you: a lunar landscape that looks so unreal that you wonder if you are dreaming. You park your rental car at one of the visitor centers and start your hike between gigantic volcanic rocks and over pitch-black lava flows - with the mighty Teide always in view! Do you love long hikes? Then start at Playa del Socorro, which is just a stone’s throw away from the hacienda, and follow route 040, which leads over 27 kilometers and 3715 meters of altitude to the summit. No matter what you choose: The tingling in your stomach as you traverse the rugged landscape around the volcanic peak is included on all tours!

Mount Teide is one of the best places in the world to look up at the sky and observe the wondrous constellations. Together with other curious people and a guide, you will meet up in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the west of the national park. From there, you will first enjoy the sunset together before discovering the celestial bodies with telescopes and lasers. What a once-in-a-lifetime moment! Your anticipation? Boundless! But don’t worry, the waiting time is anything but boring. Be sure to make a detour to Playa del Socorro: fine, pitch-black sand in perfect contrast to the turquoise blue sea. Black beaches have a magic all of their own! Alternatively, take a hike to the ruins of Gordejulea. The former water elevator in Los Realejos is definitely a must-see.

You stop again and again to enjoy the view and then you suddenly discover it: the small mountain village of Masca. Park your rental car and explore the little village with the white houses between the dramatic cliffs. Got the perfect shot? Then it’s off to the beach! Why is Adeje so popular with travelers? The place is the perfect beach paradise. You immediately switch into relax mode and look forward to the days ahead full of relaxation. Your plans for the rest of the day? Just let yourself drift! Let the sun shine on your belly on the beach - for example on the popular Playa del Duque - and your only worry is which beach bar you’ll stop off at tonight. How do you like your sundowner?

Day 7: Stone Giants: Off To Los Gigantes

Today is beach day - but with a special backdrop! It’s off to Los Gigantes. The place is named after the truly gigantic cliffs, which you should definitely take a look at from one of the many viewpoints. Dash up Calle Tabaiba and get out of your car. Follow the paved hiking trail up to the viewpoint, which is about a five-minute walk away. And then: marvel! Your finger on the shutter release of your camera won’t stop moving as you try to capture the beauty of the 600-metre-high cliffs. Continue to Playa de los Guíos: a black lava sand beach with a view of the cliffs. What should you definitely not miss out on in Tenerife? A dip in one of the many natural pools right on the coast. Jump into the Piscina Natural Acantilado in Los Gigantes, which will enchant you with its turquoise blue water surrounded by black lava rocks.
