Day 1: Golan Heights / Katzrin, Mt. Bental / View Of Megiddo

Our tour begins as we leave Tel-Aviv traveling north on the coastal road along the Mediterranean Sea and passing the cities of Hertzilya and Natanya.

To head into Galilee we need to travel past Megiddo, heading through the infamous Plain of Armageddon. Despite itโ€™s name, weโ€™ll travel along and through to Galilee where weโ€™ll see some beautiful vineyards, farmlands and rolling hills, offering a great photo opportunity. Weโ€™ll cross the River Jordan and start to ascend the Golan Heights through the vast and simply beautiful countryside. On our journey weโ€™ll see the Hamat Gader, a place that contains various hot springs. Itโ€™s reported that these date back to the Roman era, where these springs were used to bathe in and still are to this day.

We get the chance to see some of the truly beautiful sights on our way to the Shalom Observatory as we make our travels. From within Katzrin weโ€™ll see a now excavated Jewish village dating back to the eras of Mishnah and Talmudic. Our next stop isnโ€™t far from here, where weโ€™ll head to the Golan Antiquities Museum and see some of the remarkable discoveries from the Golan. Additionally weโ€™ll see a short film depicting the ancient city of Gamla. Our last stop on the tour is the very place captured by the Israeliโ€™s in 1967 during the Six Day War, where weโ€™ll head to Mt. Bental, home to the remaining Syrian trenches which weโ€™ll spend some time exploring before heading back.

Weโ€™ll be able to see the ancient city of Megiddo from as we turn off the coastal roads, turning off for the Valley of Armageddon. Weโ€™ll know weโ€™ve arrived in Nazareth As we visit Mt. Precipice, signaling our arrival in Nazareth. Our first venture is to the Church of Annunciation and the beautiful church of St. Joseph to explore first. Once we set off to the next part of our tour weโ€™ll head towards the Sea of Galilee, bypassing a place called Cana, famous for where Jesus turned water into wine. Following this weโ€™ll head to the Mt. of Beatitudes, where once Jesus delivered the now named Sermon on the Mount. Unfortunately we canโ€™t guarantee that youโ€™ll get the same sermon!

Weโ€™ll stop in Capernaum , found along the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Weโ€™ll tour the Roman Catholic Church within Tabgha, the place where the Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes took place. To start to wrap up the tour, weโ€™ll head to Yardenit. Weโ€™ll visit one of the sites along the River Jordan, believed to be where Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist. As we head back weโ€™ll pass Mt. Tabor, famous for being where the Transfiguration of Jesus took place where he became radiant upon the mountain-top.

As we continue to head below sea level to the Dead Sea, weโ€™ll stop at our first point of the tour at Masada, where from here jump on a cable car to Herodโ€™s palace-fortress, now over 2,000 years old. Some of the structures here are truly incredible where weโ€™ll find various palaces and even an old bathhouse! Once weโ€™ve explored this area weโ€™ll head onto the Dead Sea, where weโ€™ll head past the place where the Dead Sea Scrolls were first discovered, Qumran. Once weโ€™re at the Dead Sea weโ€™ll spend the rest of the day making the most of some well earned relaxation, utilizing the Dead Sea beaches to our advantages. Weโ€™ll enter the Old City via the Jewish quarter, where weโ€™ll see the many centuries old Cardo before moving to the Western Wall. At the Western Wall a tradition is to place a prayer on a piece of paper and placing it within the ancient stones of the wall, which we get the opportunity to do so before heading on. Weโ€™ll then follow in the footsteps of Jesus himself and follow the Via Dolorosa which will follow the same route that he took when carrying his cross, ending at the place where Jesus was both crucified and buried, now named the Holy Sepulchre.
