During your stay in La Guajira, you can choose between two types of accommodations: a private room with a bathroom and fan, or traditional lodging in chinchorros or hammocks, depending on your selected plan. This experience allows you to share your stay with the local community, offering simple yet comfortable accommodations. The camps are made from wood with uralite roofs and feature areas with bunk beds and hammocks, a dining area, and shared bathrooms with showers. All accommodations are equipped with toilet facilities and showers, ensuring a pleasant and authentic experience.

Donโ€™t forget Itโ€™s a road tripโ€ฆ The distances in La Guajira are large so be aware that you will spend some time in the car. However, the guides will make enough stops so you travel comfortably. Living like a local... The infrastructure in La Guajira is still very basic. Do not expect luxury in accommodation nor food. Please consider that the accommodation could be correspondingly simple (no running water). Respect resources... Energy and water scarcity is noticeable throughout la Guajira. Please make an adequate use of the resources. Enjoy being off the grid... Cell phone reception is very limited and you wonโ€™t have access to wifi except for emergencies, so let your loved ones know that youโ€™ll be offline for a few days.

  • Day 1 Manaure, Uribia, And Cabo De La Vela
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Manaure, Uribia, And Cabo De La Vela

      Your adventure starts at 8:30 am in Riohacha, where youโ€™ll embark on a one-hour drive to Manaure. There, youโ€™ll visit the salt flats, where a local guide will introduce you to the traditional artisanal salt extraction techniques used by the community.


      Afterward, youโ€™ll take a short break in Uribia to grab some snacks before continuing your two-hour drive to Cabo de la Vela. Upon arrival, youโ€™ll enjoy a tasty lunch at your accommodation before heading out to explore the areaโ€™s key attractions.


      In the afternoon, youโ€™ll visit Playa Arcoiris, a beautiful beach famous for the rainbows created by waves crashing against the rocks. Then, youโ€™ll hike up Pilรณn de Azรบcar, a sacred site for the Wayรบu people, where you can relax or swim in the calm waters of Playa Dorada.


      As the day ends, youโ€™ll experience a stunning sunset at either Playa Ojo de Agua or El Faro, depending on the time spent at the previous sites.

  • Day 2 Punta Gallinas And Dunas De Taroa

      Punta Gallinas And Dunas De Taroa

      On the second day of your adventure, youโ€™ll set off for Punta Gallinas, a remote and stunning destination in La Guajira. After breakfast, youโ€™ll journey to the northernmost point of South America, passing through the impressive Parque Eรณlico, where towering wind turbines capture the coastal winds. Your adventure continues as you travel to Bahรญa Portete and Bahรญa Honda, stopping for a delightful lunch to relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.


      Following a brief rest, youโ€™ll make your way to the awe-inspiring Dunas de Taroa, where massive sand dunes meet the Caribbean Sea, creating a striking contrast between the golden sands and the azure waters. Here, youโ€™ll have the chance to cool off in the sea, feeling the refreshing waves against the warm desert landscape.


      Next, youโ€™ll visit the Mirador de Casares, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the bay. Your day concludes at El Faro de Punta Gallinas, the northernmost lighthouse in South America, where youโ€™ll witness a stunning sunset over the vast ocean. After soaking in this unforgettable moment, youโ€™ll return to your accommodation for a delicious dinner and a well-earned rest.

  • Day 3 Mayapo

      Mayapo

      After breakfast, youโ€™ll set off on a scenic three-hour drive to the beautiful beaches of Mayapo. Upon arrival, youโ€™ll savor a delicious lunch featuring some of the finest dishes from La Guajiraโ€™s culinary tradition.


      Youโ€™ll have plenty of time to unwind on Mayapo Beach, a must-see spot during your visit to La Guajira. This coastal paradise is ideal for water sports enthusiasts, offering favorable winds, great waves, and soft sandy shores.


      In the late afternoon, youโ€™ll take a 40-minute drive back to Riohacha, where youโ€™ll either check into your hotel or catch transport to your next destination.
