Sights on the way or in the area:

The city of Tacuarembรณ is particularly interesting

The โ€œCerro Batovรญโ€ is located in the north in the Cuchilla de Haedo, about 25km from Tacuarembo. It has a height of 224m. Its name comes from Guaranรญ and means โ€œbreast of the Virginโ€, which is due to its shape. The mountain is the emblem of the department.

Another place worth seeing is โ€œLaurelesโ€, where you can find an old well-preserved train station, streams, rocks in the background and sights that are atypical for the geography of the country.

In the village of Iporรก, 7 km from the city of Tacuarembรณ, there are two lakes, a swimming pool, mountains and meadows. Ideal for establishing close contact with nature and recharge your batteries.

โ€œSan Gregorio de Polancoโ€ is located on the banks of the Rรญo Negro and is a place full of charm and tranquility. With a pretty beach surrounded by lush vegetation, particularly pleasant in summer. The perfect place to rest and is especially recommended for those who like fishing - there are many pejerreyes, tarariras and catfish - and water sports.

Rivera has natural and cultural wealth due to its location at the source of the Cuรฑapirรบ stream and its proximity to Brazil. The capital of the same name, Rivera, grew around the Cerro del Marco and is only separated from Santa Ana do Livramento (Brazilian side of the city) by a street. It is named after Colonel Bernarbรฉ Rivera, while the department takes its name from Fructuoso Rivera, the first president of Uruguay.

In the city, tourists will find a wide variety of dining options, hotels and the best casinos in the region. Rivera offers the visitor free shops and shopping centers with various companies of international quality. If you enjoy gambling, the casinos are another of the great attractions that the city offers. In Rivera you can also enjoy a varied gastronomy, ranging from typical rural cuisine to the best French cuisine.

  • Day 11 Drive South To Punta Del Este.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Drive South To Punta Del Este.

Punta del Este is located on the Atlantic coast and is often referred to as the "Pearl of the Atlantic". The seaside resort has numerous beaches, summer residences, yachts, harbors, high-rise buildings and fashionable restaurants, bars and clubs. It is definitely one of the most glamorous places in South America and fills up with international visitors in the summer.

Casa Pueblo is a very special building built by the artist Carlos Paez Vilaro. It is built over eight floors directly into the cliffs of Punta Ballena. There are no straight lines or surfaces here, the style is Mediterranean and it now includes a museum and an art gallery.

The Ralli Foundation Museum is also located in Punta del Este. The museum exhibits an amazing collection of sculptures and paintings, including some works by Salvador Dali.

The Isla de Loboscan be easily reached by ferry from Punta del Este. It is approximately 9 km from the holiday resort and is a designated nature reserve. Although it is not allowed to enter, it is still a special attraction.

Around 200,000 seals, sea lions and elephant seals live here. This population represents one of the largest colonies of these animals in all of South America. Observing the animals is a special highlight and takes place from the excursion boats. Many bird species also live on the island, so the island is also extremely interesting for ornithologists.

Another eye-catcher is the 59 meter high lighthouse, which is the only structure on the island.

Isla Gorriti is located in the Bay of Maldonado in the Rรญo de la Plata shortly before it flows into the Atlantic. Here, on the widest river in the world, you will find a beautiful island that is a popular excursion destination for the residents of Punta del Este or for travelers.

The island is not particularly large, it is 1.7 km long and is only 160 m wide at its narrowest point (700 m at its widest). The island was named after Francisco Gorriti, a colonel during the War of Independence against the Spanish.

Isla Gorriti is covered with a pine forest and there are two beaches, Playa Honda to the west and Puerto Jardรญn to the north. The island can be reached by excursion boats from Punta del Este.

There are also some historical remnants from the 18th century (ruins and old cannons) on the island. You can also do water sports and watch the many sailing boats that also like to stop here.
