Itinerary of your trip Iceland Inspired Featuring The Northern Lights

  • Day 1 Arrive Reykjavik, Iceland
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Arrive Reykjavik, Iceland

Arrive in Reyjakvik and head toward the famous Blue Lagoon. The lagoon is a geothermal wonder of nature, with pleasantly warm mineral rich geothermal seawater in the middle of a lava field. The high natural levels of silica, minerals  and algae give the Lagoon its rich blue colour โ€“ hence the name Blue Lagoon. Later, a city tour will show us the highlights of the capital.

Welcome dinner and overnight at your Reykjavรญk hotel.

  • Day 2 Iceland Countryside
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Iceland Countryside

After breakfast, we drive north out of Reykjavik and through the tunnel under Hvalfjordur, one of the countryโ€™s longest fjords. We make a visit at the Settlement Center museum in Borgarnes. We continue through the pretty lake-dotted valleys of the Borgarfjรถrdur district where the ice-age glacier covered the area about 10,000 years ago. We will then make a brief stop at Deidartunguhver, Europeโ€™s largest hot spring, where around 200 liters of 97C hot water flows from the earth every second. Enjoy our short stop at the beautiful waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafossar in the river Hvรญtรก before returning to Borgarnes.

  • Day 3 Iceland Countryside
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Iceland Countryside

The first highlight of the day is Thingvellir, the great lava arena in a rift valley, where the divide between the Eurasian and the North American tectonic plates is clearly visible. Founded by the Norse settlers in 930 AD in Thingvellir, you will see the worldโ€™s oldest still-existing national parliament. Get ready to visit Gullfoss, which is often described as Icelandยดs most beautiful waterfall, and the famous Geysir area. Strokkur, the worldยดs most active, is likely to spout several times. We make our final stop at Friรฐheimar, known for using geothermal heating for cultivation of tomatoes and cucumbers โ€“ come and enjoy their famous tomato soup. Dinner and overnight in Selfoss.

  • Day 4 Iceland Countryside
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Iceland Countryside

Today, we will drive along the south coast and make a stop at the magnificent Seljalandsfoss Waterfalls! It is a narrow but high waterfall, plunging over the mountainside of West Eyjafjรถll. A path lies at the bottom of the cliff where it cascades down, offering a safe and easy opportunity to walk behind the waterfall and out the other side.

From there, we head to Vรญk, a village east of Mt. Reynisfjall in Myrdal. Itโ€™s the southernmost village in Iceland. Mt. Reynisfjall and its cliffs have few rivals in Iceland for richness of vegetation and bird life including the Arctic tern.

We continue toward Kirkjubรฆjarklaustur, which in the old days was known as โ€œKirkjubรฆrโ€œ (Church Farm) and was an important farming village. Dinner and overnight in Kirkjubรฆjarklaustur.

  • Day 5 Iceland Countryside
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Iceland Countryside

From Klaustur, the route takes us along the south coast to Skaftafell. Skaftafell was designated one of Icelandยดs three national parks in 1967. The most majestic of its several waterfalls is Svartifoss (โ€œBlack Fallsโ€), plunging over a wall of symmetrical columnar basalt that recalls organ pipes. If thereยดs interest, we can walk up to Svartifoss.

Before we drive to the hotel, we stop by the glacier lagoon Jรถkulsรกrlรณn and visit the museum, รžรณrbergssetur, in Hรถfn. The museum is dedicated to one of Icelandโ€˜s most significant twentieth century authors, รžรณrbergur รžรณrรฐarson. Dinner and overnight at FH Glacier Lagoon.

  • Day 6 Iceland Countryside - Reykjavik
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Iceland Countryside - Reykjavik

Today, we will drive along the south coast and make a stop at the breathtaking Skรณgarfoss waterfall which is 60m high and one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country.

A short drive from Skรณgar there is a small village รžorvaldseyri, home to Eyjafjallajรถkull Visitor Centre, where we stop for an exhibition about the famous Eyjafjallajรถkull eruption, which caused quite a stir and affected air traffic around the world. Letโ€™s continue to the power plant, Hellisheiรฐarvirkjun, for a Geothermal Exhibition about the utilization of geothermal energy in Iceland. Overnight at your Reykjavik hotel.

  • Day 7 Iceland - Home
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Iceland - Home

Breakfast at your hotel. Then, head to the Reykjavik Airport for check-in and departure home.
