Pre-departure briefing Best Active Adventure welcomes you to our Cusco offices on the evening before your trek for a pre-departure briefing. The briefings take place at approximately 6:00 pm. Best Adventure understands that many hikers may be nervous or inexperienced. So the briefing is an opportunity to meet your guide(s), who will talk you through what to expect over the coming days. Our guides are very approachable and experienced, so feel free to use this opportunity to ask them any questions you may have. Permits All admission permits to the classic Inca trail & Machu Picchu Archaeological Complex are included. To obtain all relevant permits for your hike, we will require a photocopy of your passport. We kindly request you share this with the team as soon as you book your trek. Camping equipment Best Active Adventure provides the best possible equipment to all clients and staff to maximize your experience. Porters Our porters carry all belongings that you donโ€™t need in your daypack up to a maximum weight of 7 kg. Additionally, our porters carry all food and equipment. You will find your tents and the campsite prepared for you on arrival, so all you need to do is worry about enjoying the hike! Medical kit All Best Active Adventure guides have received training in first aid and high mountain rescue. Suppose a guest requires medical attention while on the trek, our staff will assist you. A medical kit is kept with the team at all times. In a scarce case of a serious medical emergency, you will be evacuated to the nearest medical center. Satellite phones To ensure your safety and in case of an emergency, we are the first trekking company to introducing satellite phone technology. Taxes and fees All taxes and permit fees associated with this trek are included in the listed price.

Meals

Food Best Active Adventure is proud of its highly talented chefs who never fail to cook up a delightful feast despite being in the middle of the Andean Mountains! We guarantee the biggest foodies among you wonโ€™t fail to be impressed. All breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are provided each day (except lunch on the final day), and the food is both delicious and plentiful. We cater to all dietary requirements, so please let us know of your needs. We will keep those energy levels high with snacks each day, and we make sure you have tea/coffee every morning to wake up and every afternoon to unwind. Water All drinkable water โ€“ from your first lunch to your last breakfast โ€“ will be provided (you need to supply your own water bottles/camelback, and we recommend carrying at least 2L). The water is boiled, filtered, and cooled before it is distributed. This tour offers Vegetarian and Vegan food options on request. Simply let Best Active Adventure know the food option that you prefer.

Transport

Best Active Adventure offers a door-to-door service; we will pick you up from your hotel on the morning of the trek and drop you off back at your hotel on the last day. All required transportation throughout the trek is included, as well as the train back from Aguas Calientes.

Guide

Best Active Adventure team are fluent English speakers and are extremely experienced professional tour guides from the local area. We provide a single guide for groups smaller than 8 people and a second guide for groups with 8 people or more. We very much enjoy sharing our extensive knowledge of local history and culture with you along the trek. All guides are proficiently trained in high mountain rescue, as well as yoga and meditation. We are committed to ensuring all clients have the best possible Best Active Adventure!

  • Day 1 Cusco โ€“ Km 82 โ€“ Llactapata โ€“ Ayapata

      On the first day, we will depart from your hotel around 4.30 am and drive to Ollantaytambo, where we have breakfast and visit our social projects. It is then another 1-hour drive to KM. 82 to start our private Inca Trail. First, we have to go through the checkpoint and begin the TreXperience! The first part is a 4-hour hike along meandering streams, local villages, ancient Inca sites, and stunning views of the Andes until we arrive at Hatunchaca to have a well-earned lunch. The second part of the day itโ€™s a 2-hour hike up to Ayapata, the first campsite to get ready for dinner and sleep.

      Start early on the day with a cup of coffee or coca tea to climb the long steep trail to Dead Womenโ€™s Pass and  Runcuraccay pass. The first mountain takes 4 hours up to reach the highest point of the Inca trail, Warmiwaรฑusca or Dead womenโ€™s Pass at 4215m (13828ft); itโ€™s then another 2 hours don to lunch place at Pacaymayu Valley, after lunch, we will climb the second mountain that takes 2 hours up to Runcuraccay Pass at 4000m (13123ft). The last part of the day is 2 hours down to the second and most beautiful campsite, Chaquicocha, located at 3600m (11811ft). Along the day, you will be able to explore the different landscapes, Inca Sites such as RuncuRaccay and Sayacmarca, and at night if we have a clear sky is perfect for stargazing!

      With the two mountain passes over, we will start the third day descending from the Andes ion to the Cloud Forest, enjoying the Vilcanota and Salkantay Mounatin rangeโ€™s spectacular views until we arrive at the third and last campsite, Wiรฑayhuayna, at 2600m (8530ft).  The first part is a relatively easy hike for 2-hours to Phuyupatmarca (City in the Clouds, 3650m โ€“ 11,972 ft), where we will rest and see Machu Picchu Mounatin (Monatรฑa) from a distance. The second part starts with a sudden drop from the high mounatin to the lush cloud forest. Along the way, we will find Intipata (Terraces of the Sun), where we will take time to enjoy the amazing views before reaching the lunch place, which is also lunch. After lunch, we have the afternoon free to chase llamas, visit Inca sites, or take a shower.

      On the final day, we start pre-dawn to arrive early to Sungate before sunrise and enjoy the breathtaking views of Machu Picchu. The wake-up is early, around 3.30 am, have breakfast at 4:00 am, and wait at the checkpoint until 5.30 am to start hiking with the first ones for 1 hour to the Sungate and then another hour Machu Picchu.

      Upon arrival at the citadel, we will have a coffee break, leave some of the hiking gear in the lockers, and start the guided tour of Machu Picchu. Your tour guide will take you on tour through the most remarkable places and show you the best of the ancient city; later you will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, have lunch (not included) and take the exclusive panoramic trains back to Ollanataytambo and van back to Cusco. The arrival approximate arrival time back to Your hotel is 7:30 pm.
