Day 3: Loire Valley / Majestic Chambord / Amboise / Chenonceau

With more than 100 chateaux, the Loire Valley is rich of Renaissance and Enlightenment Masterpieces. Today you will visit three of the most beautiful Castles of the region: the majestic Chambord, the elegant Chenonceau and the powerfully forged Amboise, that you will visit on your own. Chambord is the most majestic of the Chรขteaux you will see, boasting massive medieval towers perfectly blended with Renaissance elegance. Set in 13,000 acres of parkland this former royal residence represents the pinnacle of Franceโ€™s 16th century architectural revolution. Amboise, with its spectacular view over the Loire, is famous for being the last resting place of one of historyโ€™s most famous men: Leonardo Da Vinci and with its massive gothic defensive features, it evokes that bygone era of knights on horseback. Chenonceau, above all, stands out as the most beautiful of the Chรขteaux of the Loire as it extends with infinite grace over the waters of the River Cher. With its ornately carved decoration and history of romance and rivalry, this Chรขteau lives up to its passionate reputation and has been seducing visitors for hundreds of years.

Meet your guide near the Eiffel Tower and move to Giverny, where you will arrive after a 1-hour journey. You will visit the idyllic home of Claude Monet on the edge of Normandy. The master of the Impressionist School lived here from 1883 to 1926. Monetโ€™ son left this impressive jewel to the Acadรฉmie des Beaux-arts in 1966, which, after a large scale restoration work, became the Claude Monet Foundation, inaugurated in 1980. The gardens offer visitors the "painting from nature" that Claude Monetโ€™s contemporaries recognised as one of his masterpieces. The boxy Clos Normand, with passages of rising plants twisted around coloured bushes, displays Monetโ€™s palette of colours. After the visit, you will enjoy a delicious 3-course lunch at the "Moulin de Fourges" restaurant, a 200-year-old mill. It offers a unique ambience with its rural grounds and vast terrace on the River Epte. In the afternoon, you will visit the Palace of Versailles and its gardens, considered among the most prestigious monuments of the worldโ€™s artistic heritage and are unquestionably the finest and most complete realisation of 17th-century French art. Former residence of the โ€™Sun Kingโ€™ Louis XIV, this sumptuous royal palace was home to three of Franceโ€™s most illustrious Kings for over 100 years. Return to Paris late afternoon.
