After breakfast your driver guide will meet you and you’ll head to Bari, a port city on the Adriatic sea and the capital of the region of Puglia.. On the way, as you pass through the region of Basilicata we’ll take a stop in Matera for a guided visit (optional) of the town. It’s said that the town may be the longest continuously inhabited human settlement in the world.

Stand in the right spot at a viewpoint overlooking Matera’s huddled sassi, and it’s not difficult to imagine you’ve been teleported back to the Holy Land circa 100 BC. At once epic and cinematic, the ‘Città Sotterranea’, as it’s known, perches on the upper reaches of the steep-sided Gravina gorge and its timeless urban landscape has often been used to evoke biblical scenes in films and TV. In the morning after breakfast, you’ll meet your driver and drive to Lecce with a stop in Alberobello. a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A lovely spread of pinnacles announces Alberobello’s characteristic historic centre. The old town centre is entirely composed of trulli. These are traditional homes whitened with quicklime and capped by conical bare-stone roofs. Crosses, pierced hearts, and zodiac signs decorate the roofs, maintaining the air of mystery that surrounds the trulli. We’ll also stop in Locorotondo.
