All alcoholic drinks are likewise paid for by the individual guest.

Transport

This Kenyan Experience tour has relatively brief road trips in its itinerary but we use excellently maintained tourist vehicles to ensure comfortable and secure travel, with good visibility for all guests to enable them to appreciate the countryside. As already stated, there are three short domestic flights which each guest must finance for themselves .

Accommodation

We use the best hotels available throughout the trip, often in interesting and unusual situations. When we are down on the Indian Ocean we make sure of good air-conditioning in all our rooms except for a single night in Malindi where we have chosen a very leafy and beautiful resort with lots of shade. Guests may choose single or double rooms and there is usually a choice of twin or double bed. We only use hotels that are in peaceful situations and that have their own restaurants and coffee facilities.

Guide

This Kenyan Experience tour is accompanied throughout by experienced guides who have all the skills necessary to facilitate the tour successfully. On several occasions during the tour, we employ further local experts on particular sites where detailed knowledge of history and culture are required.

      Nairobi Town Tour

A relaxed start to the day before meeting our guide and starting our exploration of this incredibly bustling and busy city. We shall be taken to a colourful Maasai tribal market with a huge range of desirable goods on sale. We shall then continue our city trail to discover landmarks and notable buildings. And we shall enjoy at least one of the modern, excellent coffee shops for some downtime.

After a light lunch, we shall take transport to the leafy edge of the city where we shall spend a couple of hours in one of the most attractive and informative museums we have ever visited. Dinner will follow some relaxation and free time.

  • Day 2 Flight To Mombasa And The Indian Ocean
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Flight To Mombasa And The Indian Ocean

Although we shall return to Nairobi at the end of the tour, today we take a short flight to the south, to the somewhat quieter and very different city of Mombasa, facing out onto the Indian Ocean. After checking into our modern, air-conditioned hotel, we meet our experienced guide who gives us a very basic introduction to the city in preparation for tomorrowโ€™a activities. We then all take our first dinner together in this ancient city.

  • Day 3 A Wander Around Old Mombasa
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      A Wander Around Old Mombasa

In a substantial day of exploration, our guide is first going to introduce us to the ancient part of this city, with its characterful old buildings and lots of finely carved wooden doors and balconies. Once we have lunched together, we are going to have an early afternoon period of relaxation so as to reserve energy for our early evening trip to Mombasaโ€™s most famous historic site, Fort Jesus, where we shall witness an impressive Sound and Light show in this sturdy 16th century stronghold that has protected the city for more than four centuries. Dinner may well be taken during the show, or else we shall visit a carefully chosen restaurant on the edge of the city.

  • Day 4 A Morning In Haller Park
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      A Morning In Haller Park

Today we leave the city behind us and travel just a few kilometres by tuk-tuk into the countryside to visit a beautifully relaxed Haller Park and our very first sighting of Kenyaโ€™s stunning animal life. Giraffes, elands, crocodiles and enormous tortoises await us in very leafy and enjoyable surroundings. Kenyan families will also be there to find relaxation and amusement. Weโ€™ll return to the city for lunch and have some more time to relax or discover Mombasa before we prepare ourselves for our road trip starting the next day

  • Day 5 Along The Indian Ocean To Malindi And A Famous Falconry
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Along The Indian Ocean To Malindi And A Famous Falconry

Today we start our short trip using private transport along the coast of the Indian Ocean on our way to the attractive small town of Malindi where we shall stay the night. We shall take a stop for lunch at the equally attractive town of Kalifi where we might also have time to do a little exploration before continuing our journey.

We have chosen the most wonderfully leafy and shady hotel in Malindi, very close to the coast and occupying a beautifully peaceful site. But we certainly intend to take you first to the world-famous Falconry of Kenya, just on the edge of town, where more than twenty species of beautiful birds of prey are protected and flown for visiting guests. Itโ€™s an unforgettable experience! You will also meet on of the oldest and hugest tortoises in captivity!

  • Day 6 To Hellโ€™S Kitchen Then On To Lamu
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

To Hellโ€™S Kitchen Then On To Lamu

We are off into the countryside this morning for an hourโ€™s drive to Hellโ€™s Kitchen, an extraordinary natural formation of orange, white and pink rocks that will remind some of our guests of the โ€™New Yorkโ€™ canyon that they might have visited with us in southern Ethiopia. We return to Malindi for a relaxed lunch before preparing ourselves for our afternoon flight to the next place on our wonderful itinerary, the island community of Lamu. We shall be taken by boat from the airport to our hotel in the centre of this extraordinary place that has no roads and no motor vehicles. Just donkeys! and the occasional boy-racer on his motorbike!

  • Day 7 Welcome To Lamu Town!
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Welcome To Lamu Town!

We are staying three nights in this ultimately peaceful and colourful place, the oldest continually inhabited town in Kenya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the original Swahili settlements on this coast. We are here to relax, to learn about this unique culture, and to enjoy a very special place indeed. We shall meet our private guide today and explore Lamu Town. But we shall allow ourselves lots of free time to enjoy our traditional hotel, to swim in a private pool just a few metres away in the sister hotel, and to relax. We may well take a boat along the coast a little way to have dinner and cocktails in the slightly upmarket area called Shela

  • Day 8 History, Culture And Relaxation
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      History, Culture And Relaxation

We shall top up our exploration of Lamu this morning by visiting the Fort and its small heritage museum. And we shall have lots of time to wander the narrow streets, both along the coast and behind the town. Anyone feeling bold enough may take a motorcycle taxi along the coast if wished, or even take a calmer ride on one of the essential local donkeys. We could also visit a very traditional small hotel in the Shela area and use their very pleasant pool. If sea-bathing is your choice, the small Shela beach is a chosen spot. You will not forget being amid this very unusual and calming community.

  • Day 9 Back To The Capital City
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Back To The Capital City

Our time in this peaceful place has ended and we are now heading for the true climax of this very special tour. We leave Lamu by boat and are heading for the airport and our relatively short flight back to the capital city, Nairobi. We shall have good time to prepare ourselves for our three-day Maasai Mara experience, but will probably also wish to reconnect with some of the areas near our very central hotel, including some excellent coffee shops.

  • Day 10 We Are On Safari!
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      We Are On Safari!

From here on, we are all in the very capable hands of our Nairobi-based safari experts who are arranging the whole package on your behalf. After breakfasting in our Nairobi hotel, we shall make an early start and move towards the world-famous Maasai Mara National Park. We shall remain in a private group for all of the three days, sleeping our two nights on the edge of the park near a Maasai tribe village. Accommodation is in tented rooms with proper beds but simple surroundings. Most meals will be taken in our tented compound, and we can promise simple but tasty fare, eaten either in the dining room or around our own camp fire. Before sleeping we shall have our first taste of adventure in the park.

  • Day 11 Wildlife Watching
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Wildlife Watching

The whole of this day will be spent indulging ourselves in the glories of the greatest game reserve in Kenya, the Maasai Mara. We hope to spot all of the Big Five plus lots of other wildlife. Lunch will give us a substantial breather, and we shall then continue until we are truly sated with the experience. Relaxation will definitely be the order of the evening, possibly seated around a glowing campfire.

  • Day 12 A Tribal Village Welcome And A Return To The City
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

A Tribal Village Welcome And A Return To The City

On our final dayof safari, we shall have a private visit to a Maasai village and be welcomed with tribal dancing (join in if you like!) and be shown just how these knowledgeable people light their fires for cooking and heating, but with not a match in sight.

After our Maasai experience is fiished, we travel back to Nairobi and to our comfortable modern hotel once again. But before we sleep, we hope to take you for a very special banquet on the edge of the city with traditional dancing and entertainment provided by the Safari Cats Dancers!

In the morning we shall commence our homeward journey.
