Tayrona National Park: Hiking, Wildlife & Beaches

Tayrona National Park is a sanctuary of nature and archaeological remains that invite an encounter with oneself. Mangrove swamps, corals, algae prairies, thorny scrubland, and magical dry, humid, and cloud forests proliferate. They are home to a surprising variety of plant and animal species that bear witness to life.

Flora and fauna observations are particularly fascinating here, especially birdwatching, which includes sightings of the threatened Andean condor. Aside from its natural and archaeological attractions, Tayrona Natural Park is an excellent site for eco-tourism, thanks to the diversity of its sea waves and diving sites.

The park is home to over 100 mammal species, including howling monkeys, pumas, deer, and several bats. Over 300 bird species coexist with them, with condors and lone and white eagles being the main ones.

The park also houses 31 reptiles, 15 amphibians, 202 sponges, 471 crustaceans, and more than 1,000 additional marine species. Dolphins and marine turtles are frequent visitors; the latter come for spawning.

The hike is of medium-level intensity and takes approximately 2.5 hours each way. It’s a full-day experience where you can enjoy excellent hiking, beaches, nature, peace, and wildlife. We will reach Cabo San Juan, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the sea and savor a typical lunch by the shore before we start making our way back.

Land Transfer Journey To The Queen Of The Caribbean: Cartagena Awaits

Wave goodbye to Santa Marta as you savor a delicious breakfast at your hotel. Get ready to discover a whole new side of the Colombian Caribbean. You’ll be transported by private service to the enchanting city of Cartagena. Sit back and enjoy the scenic 4-5 hour journey to your next hotel.

Once you’ve checked in, take some time to unwind. By around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, when the sun’s rays soften, your private local guide from Cartagena will be all set to unveil the wonders of this city, famously known as the Queen of the Caribbean.

Think of Cartagena not just as a city, but as a living, breathing museum overflowing with historical charm. It’s a fortress of a town that was the primary port for gold being sent to Spain. You’ll walk along its historic walls, designed to protect against pirate invasions including those led by the notorious Sir Francis Drake.

Visit picture-perfect plazas, the sacred Church and Monastery of San Pedro Claver, and the awe-inspiring Basilica Minor Cathedral. The cobbled streets you’ll wander through are like a colorful embrace from the colonial houses whose balconies are adorned with vibrant bougainvillaea.

But Cartagena is not just its past. The city’s modern districts of Bocagrande and Manga add a layer of contemporary flair, forming a lovely contrast with the older architecture. End your day with a trip to the imposing "El Castillo De San Felipe de Barajas" and capture the panoramic views from La Popa Convent.

We won’t let you leave without showing you the trendy, artistic vibe of Getsemaní, a district bursting with color and culture.
