Straddling ancient mountains, the Zugspitze Railway is scenic and beautiful. The final leg is by cable car which takes you over the forests to the summit, where you will have free time to enjoy the views. The Zugspitze Mountain is instantly identifiable by its unique shape as it looms over the valley and forests below.

      Your travels today will take you to the glorious Neuschwanstein Castle. Nestled in the Alps, it is a stunning sight, with a storied history. The castle is famously the inspiration for the โ€™Sleeping Beautyโ€™ castle which makes up part of the Disney logo. Neuschwanstein was designed by Ludwig II of Bavaria, who was sadly killed in suspicious circumstances before it was completed. You will also visit the delightful yellow castle of Hohenschwangau in the pretty village of Schwangau. It was the childhood home of the Ludwig II and looks more like a country palace rather than the castle it claims to be. The honey coloured walls make this an iconic building, and both the exterior, interior and garden areas are a joy to discover.

      Today, you are at leisure to enjoy the charms of the quintessentially Bavarian village of Fรผssen. Dating back to the Roman Empire, this historic town is filled with delightful buildings with rust-coloured red roofs and squares lined with bars, cafรฉs and restaurants. Well worth a visit is the pretty St. Mangโ€™s Abbey, an old Benedictine Monastery, or perhaps enjoy a leisurely boat ride on the sparkling clear waters of pristine Forggensee lake, engulfed by majestic mountain peaks.

      Day 7: The Oberammergau Passion Play

      This morning, travel to Oberammergau and check-in to your hotel. After settling in, it will be time to take your seats for the performance of the Passion Play. The play was first created in the 17th century by the villagers who promised God that if Oberammergau was spared from the ravages of the bubonic plague, they would put on a play every ten years, detailing the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As the story goes, the village was saved, and since then, Oberammergau has organised a production each decade, apart from a brief break during World War II. The performance is split into two halves, with each half lasting three hours. Spend the rest of the day here, enjoying a special dinner during the two-hour break.
