      We will go on a sightseeing tour of the city in the morning during which we will visit Belรฉm District which was the departure point of Portuguese sailors who crossed the oceans in the 15th century. Free afternoon. You may take an optional tour of the towns of Sintra, Cascais and Estoril.We include night transportation to Restauradores Square , full of atmosphere with its bars and cafes from where we suggest you to take the "Elevador da Gloria" that brings you to the Upper district and its viewpoint.

      TODAYโ€™S HIGHLIGHTS: Algarve region. Cape St. Vicent. We will depart for southern Portugal early in the morning. We will see beautiful landscapes as we cross the long bridge over the Tagus river. Arrival in ALGARVE, Portugalโ€™s southern region. We will visit the historic town of LAGOS, its port from which the Portuguese vessels sailed off to Brazil, and its walled historic centre. Lunchtime. In the afternoon we visit to the southwesternmost point of Portugal and mainland Europe between ravines and wind, we will visit CAPE ST. VICENT. We will also have the opportunity to photograph the strength of SAGRES. Afterwards, time in ALBUFEIRA, a beautiful coastal town where you can enjoy the beach or stroll around its charming historic centre. NB: Accommodation in Albufeira during the high season may sometimes be in hotels located in nearby cities.

      We will travel to FARO, Algarveโ€™s quiet capital city. We will continue our trip to Alentejo. We will visit MERTOLA on the bank of Guadiana river, an old Muslim town whose church was formerly a mosque; we will enjoy the sight of its walls and white streets. Arrival in ร‰VORA at lunchtime. This town was declared a World Heritage Site due to its white streets, its Renaissance palaces and its cathedral. The ticket to the spectacular Capela dos Ossos (Chapel of Bones) is included. This chapel was built with 5,000 skeletons! You may also relax at the hotelโ€™s swimming pool.

      TODAYโ€™S HIGHLIGHTS: castles on the way. Fatima. Dinner included. On this day we will travel through Alentejoโ€™s beautiful landscapes. We will stop in MARVAO, a quite picturesque little walled town that offers a fantastic vista of the region. Afterwards, we will visit CASTELO DA VIDE, its castle and old Jewish quarter. We will have a chance to visit the old synagogue (a museum today) or wander around this townโ€™s maze of quaint streets. After lunch, we will continue to TOMAR, a town over which CONVENT OF CHRIST looms, an old castle-convent where Templar Knights lived. Ticket included. Arrival in FATIMA. We will first go to ALJUSTREL, the village where the three little shepherds of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima were born. We will have a chance to visit house of one of them, Lucia. Afterwards, visit to FATIMA SANCTUARY where you may watch the Procissรฃo das Velas (Candlelight Procession, not celebrated in winter). Dinner included.

      TODAYโ€™S HIGHLIGHTS: city of Porto. Visit an old cellar. We will travel to northern Portugal. Arrival PORTO, Portugalโ€™s second largest city, around eleven in the morning. Sightseeing tour of this city on the bank of Duero river and its historic centre included. We also include a visit to the old cellars. Free time.

      On this day we will travel through beautiful landscapes. In the city of BRAGA we will get on the worldโ€™s oldest cable car to go up to the Santuรกrio do BOM JESรšS, where we will enjoy its gorgeous vistas. We recommend trekking back down in order to admire its beautiful stairway. We will resume our trip to Galicia. We will visit the historic town of CAMBADOS in Rรญas Baixas. We include a glass bottom boat trip where we will learn about the production of mussels and oysters. Wine and mussel tasting included. We will arrive in SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA at lunchtime. An afternoon tour of this town with a local guide is included. This town was a famous pilgrimage destination in the Middle Ages.

      We will travel along Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James) to Castile. We will take some time in LUGO to visit its historic centre and Roman walls which were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will make a stop on route in O CEBREIRO, a small Galician stone village. Arrival in LEร“N at lunchtime. We will have time visit the Gothic cathedral with its stained glass windows and stroll through the historic center. We will later cross the mountains of the Cantabrian Range on our way to Asturias. Arrival in OVIEDO at mid-afternoon. We include (occasionally on Tuesday mornings) an hour-and-a-half visit of the city with a local guide. We will visit its 9th century cathedral, Calatrava Congressional Palace, Campoamor Theatre, Calle de la Rua...

      We will travel to Picos de Europa. We will visit Basรญlica de Covadonga which is surrounded by beautiful scenery. We will resume our journey following the coastline to SANTILLANA, one of Spainโ€™s most beautiful towns, and we will visit its well-preserved medieval quarter. We visit the National Museum and Research Centre of ALTAMIRA (ticket included) located in the vicinity of this town. We will later travel to SANTANDER, the regionโ€™s capital city, a coastal city with amazing vistas and beaches. We include panoramic city tour to discover this elegant city and its beautiful bay. NOTE: On some high difficulty dates (especially in summer from July to mid September), some groups can be accommodated in Bilbao.

      We will continue on the motorway along the Cantrabrian coastline. Some of its landscapes between the mountains and the sea are quite beautiful. BILBAO, arrival in the largest city of the Basque Country. The bus will leave us at the entrance of Guggenheim Museum which has a spectacular structure. Free time to visit the museum or stroll along the Estuary of Bilbao. We will later travel to LA RIOJA region, an outstanding wine region. We will visit the Wine Museum in Briones, and we will learn about the importance of wine making from time immemorial. We will later stop in SANTO DOMINGO DE LA CALZADA, a historic town in Camino de Santiago โ€“ a rooster lives in its cathedral. ZARAGOZA, arrival late in the afternoon. Dinner included.

      We include a morning sightseeing tour of ZARAGOZA with a local guide. We will visit the Cathedal-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. We will learn about Goya, the famous painter, and see some of his works. We will also visit a Roman theatre, a Renaissance palace, and walk by the Aljaferรญa Palace. After lunch, we will continue to Poblet Monastery, a walled monastery surrounded by beautiful scenery. It is one of the best preserved medieval monasteries in the world (ticket included with guided tour). We will later travel to Montserrat Abbey where we include a ride on the rack railway to enjoy fantastic landscapes. We will resume our journey to BARCELONA where we will arrive late in the afternoon.Note: In the winter months, from November to March (both included), as days are shorter, the Poblet Monastery will not be visited (in order to arrive in Montserrat during the daylight hours)

      We will travel south following the Mediterranean coastline. We will stop in PEร‘ISCOLA, a small medieval walled town surrounded by the sea. Free time for a stroll. We will continue to VALENCIA. We will have time for lunch and go for a stroll in Spainโ€™s third largest city. We will depart for MADRID after passing through the avant-garde city of Arts and Sciences around 4.30 pm and we will arrive there around 8.30/ 09.00 pm. We include transportation to Plaza Mayor where we will have some wine at some typical taverns. Note: Sometimes the journey from Valencia to Madrid will be by train.

      Departure from Madrid early in the morning. We will travel south crossing La Mancha stopping in PUERTO LรPICE, a Manchegan town reminiscent of Don Quixoteโ€™s times. We will enter Andalusia through Despeรฑaperros. Arrival in GRANADA. We visit the Alhambra โ€“ticket and a local guide included โ€“ and the beautiful Generalife gardens built in the Arab period. Later, enjoy an evening transfer to the Albaicรญn of Granada, a World Heritage site along with the Alhambra, where you can enjoy dinner in a restaurant in the narrow winding streets of this captivating Medieval Moorish quarter. Tonight you have the option to attend a flamenco dance show and the traditional neighbourhood of Sacยญramonte.Note: in the Alhambra complex, the Nazari palaces allow a limited number of people in at a time. Sometimes your visit may be in the afternoon, depending on the timetables in which we are allowed in. In the highly improbable case of not being able to visit this area of the Alhambra, a visit to the Alcรกzares will be included in Seville (which have similar architecture and features).

      Departure from Granada. We will travel to Costa del Sol. Arrival in MรLAGA and free time for a stroll in its historic centre featuring its cathedral and Picasso museum. Afterwards, we will get back on the coastal motorway enjoying beautiful landscapes over the Mediterranean. PUERTO BANUS, located in Marbella, a charming high-end marina. Lunchtime. We will get back on route going through the sierra where many bandolero (bandit) stories took place, until we arrive in RONDA, a gorgeous white town divided by Tajo de Ronda canyon. We will continue to SEVILLE where we will arrive late in the afternoon. Dinner included at the hotel.

      Departure from Seville. We will travel to PALOS DE LA FRONTERA, in the province of Huelva. We include the ticket to the Museo de las Carabelas (Museum of the Caravels). Christopher Columbus departed from this location on the 3rd of August, 1492, to later discover America. We will visit the Monasterio de la Rรกbida (La Rรกbida Friary), declared a World Heritage Site, a Franciscan friary quite connected with the history of the Discovery of America (ticket included). Afterwards, we will travel to Portugal. A stop in the ancient Muslim town of MERTOLA whose current church used to be a mosque. Lunchtime. Afterwards, we will go through the white towns until we reach ร‰VORA, a town declared World Heritage Site because of its white streets, its Renaissance palaces and its cathedral. We include the ticket to visit the amazing Capela dos Ossos (Chapel of Bones), built with 5,000 skeletons! Continuation to LISBON and arrival at the end of the day. End of our services.
