Although it is not the largest temple in the Angkor complex, it is the most distinguished and truly captivating in its beauty. It became legendary in more recent times due to the misadventures of Malraux, who stole a bas-relief and two apsaras in 1923. It is also the only major temple that was not built by a king. The construction is attributed to Yajnavaraha, a courtier and advisor to the king. It is a true jewel of Khmer art and today one of the best restored temples at the archaeological site. The journey continues with a drive through the picturesque Cambodian countryside to Banteay Samre. Located off the beaten track, you will enjoy the peace and serenity of the temple. End your day with the unmissable Ta Prohm, often referred to as the โ€™Tomb Raider Templeโ€™ thanks to the Hollywood movie in which it featured.
