      Arrival in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia and the country’s largest city, which combines oriental flair and modern charm in a wonderful way. You will be met at Tunis airport and transferred to your hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.

      After breakfast, visit the traditional souks in the medina of Tunis, which has been declared a World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, explore the ruins of Carthage, the ancient capital of the Punic Empire. In the ancient Roman Baths of Antony, you will get an exciting impression of life in those days. Today’s highlight is certainly a visit to the artists’ village of Sidi Bou Said with its beautiful blue and white painted houses and their balconies, which are typically decorated with arabesques. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of everyday life with a small sweet treat. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

      Day 3: Tunis - Bizerte

      Today you first head north to Bizerte, the northernmost city in the country. Particularly worth seeing are the old port with its brightly painted fishing boats, the medina, the Kasbah, the Spanish fort and the Andalusian quarter. Bizerte served as a hideout for Turkish pirates until the 17th century. Today, the town is a popular summer resort for the people of Tunis. After exploring the city, you will return to Tunis, where you can admire Tunisian heritage in the National Museum of Bardo in the afternoon. Overnight stay as on the previous day.   • Day 4 Day 4: Tunis - Bulla Regia - Thugga - Kairouan

      Day 4: Tunis - Bulla Regia - Thugga - Kairouan

      After breakfast, departure for Bulla Regia, an ancient Numidian principality from the 2nd century, which belonged to the empire of Massinissa, an enemy of the Romans. After lunch, visit the ruins of ancient Thugga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a real archaeological gem. At the end of the day, continue to Kairouan, the fourth holy city of Islam and religious capital of Tunisia. Overnight stay in a hotel. (Travel time approx. 3-4 hours, 280 km).

      Today you will visit Kairouan, the fourth holiest city and spiritual-religious center of Islam. During a city tour, you will visit the venerable Great Mosque of Okba with its rather simple 9th century architecture characterized by arcades and ancient columns. During a walk through the medina with its souks and narrow alleyways, you will immerse yourself in the lively hustle and bustle of the traders and craftsmen. After lunch, drive to Sbeitla and explore the ruins of the ancient Byzantine city of Sufeitula - one of the best-preserved Roman cities in northern Africa. Continue to Tozeur, the capital of the land of palm trees. Overnight stay in a hotel. (Travel time approx. 4-5 hours, 325 km).

      Today you will visit Tozeur, the capital of Bled El Jerid "Land of Palms", with its traditional-style mud houses and alleyways covered in palm leaves. After a walk through the old town, you will drive in an off-road vehicle to the rare mountain oases in the heart of the Atlas. The breathtaking mountain landscape of the Chebika oasis and its natural spring water is a welcome refreshment. After a hike, you travel on to the oasis of Tamerza - once the largest of the three mountain oases. Finally, you will visit the oasis of Mides directly on the Tunisian-Algerian border - the canyon there was the filming location for the famous movie "The English Patient". Overnight stay as on the previous day. (Travel time approx. 3 hours, 150 km).

  • Day 7 Day 7: Nafta - Tozeur - Chott El Jerid Salt Lake - Douz

      After breakfast, drive to Nafta to admire the enchanting oasis of La Corbeille, "the basket", with its thousands of palm trees. Nafta is also known as the city of a thousand domes, and when you look back over the roofs of the city with its numerous sacred buildings, you will know why. You return to Tozeur to pay a visit to this ancient city. The journey continues towards Douz with a stop at Chott El Jerid, the largest salt lake in Tunisia. Arrival in Douz, a small town known as "the gateway to the Sahara". Drive to the sand dunes and possibility to take a camel ride in the desert at sunset (optional). Overnight stay in a hotel.       After breakfast, departure to Matmata, the famous Berber village of unique beauty in the middle of a barren lunar landscape. Matmata is known for its troglodytic, underground caves in which people have sought shelter from the heat during the day, the cold at night and also from enemies for centuries. You will visit a dwelling cave to gain an insight into the everyday life and culture of the Berber families. Continue over the Dhahar massif via Toujane, a beautiful Berber village in a mountainous landscape. At the end of the day, drive to Zammour, a small village in the heart of the Dhahar Mountains, where your cave accommodation is located. Dinner and overnight stay in a troglodyte country hotel. (Travel time approx. 2-3h, 165 km).

  • Day 9 Day 9: Zammour - Ksar Hadada - Tataouine - Djerba

      After breakfast, drive through the gorge of Wadi El Khil to Ghomarssen. Departure to the Dhahar Mountains to discover the Berber villages and the world of the Ksours, ancient collective granaries dating back to the 18th century. You will visit the famous Ksar Hadada granary, which was used for the filming of the movie Star Wars. You will then drive to Tataouine, the capital of the extreme south of Tunisia, where you will visit the souk and the artisan market. After a visit to the village of Chenini with its famous Mosque of the Seven Sleepers, the tour continues to the Ksar Ouled Soltane, a former majestic granary. We continue to Djerba via the Roman dam that connects the mainland with the island. Overnight stay in a hotel. (Travel time approx. 3-4 hours, 270 km).

      Discover the largest island in North Africa! You start with Midoun in the north-east of the island and visit the Fadhloun’s Mosque. You will then drive to Guellela, the famous pottery village, and to the village of Erriadh to visit "La Ghriba", one of the oldest Hebrew synagogues in the world and a place of pilgrimage for the Jewish community of Djerba. Finally, the island’s capital is on the program. In Houmt Souk, you will visit the Spanish fortress Borj El Kebir, built in the Middle Ages, and the Souk Erbaa, a traditional covered market with many typical goods. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

      Day 11: Gabes - El Djem

      The ferry takes you back to the mainland to Gabes, where you visit the old spice market. An experience for the senses of scents and colors. Here you can find pure henna, a plant-based dye used by Berber women to artistically paint their hands and feet for weddings. You then drive to El Djem to the third largest amphitheater in the world after the Colosseum in Rome and the destroyed amphitheater in Capua. You will then visit the archaeological museum of El Djem, which houses a magnificent collection of Roman mosaics in a very good state of preservation. Overnight stay at the hotel.       After breakfast at the hotel, drive to the charming coastal town of Mahdia with its romantic old town right by the harbor and cross "Skifa Kahla", the fortress-like entrance gate to the old medina built in the 10th century. You will visit the Punic harbor and the cemetery before continuing to Monastir, the enchanting coastal town on the sapphire blue sea. You will then travel to Sousse to visit the ancient medina, which is a World Heritage Site. You will visit the archaeological museum of Sousse, the second largest museum in the country with a beautiful collection of Roman mosaics. Then continue to Hammamet. Overnight stay in a hotel.       Today you will take a short walk through the ancient medina of Hammamet before setting off for Cap Bon. The fertile Cap Bon peninsula with its green hills, fruit plantations and endless sandy beaches invites you to explore today. Nabeul is all about ceramics. In the many pottery workshops, you will find tiles, jugs and bowls made of clay, artistically decorated with traditional patterns and colors. In Kelibia, you will visit a majestic Byzantine fortress from the fifth century, while at the UNESCO archaeological site in Kerkouene you will explore a Punic city that was destroyed in 310 BC.       Look forward to a day of relaxation and discovery in Hammamet, this charming town on the bay of Cap Bon of the same name. Stroll along the endless sandy beaches, take a dive off the coast or enjoy a dip in the hammam. Overnight stay as on the previous day.
