Day 1: Cusco โ€“ Challacancha โ€“ Soraypampa (Humantay Lagoon)

Stop At: Salcantay, 08680, Peru
We will head out early in the morning in the direction of the community of Mollepata. That is where we will stop to eat a hearty breakfast. After we eat we will continue on to Challacancha. This is where we will start walking. It will be an easy 2 hour hike to our first campsite at Soraypampa. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to hike up and see the beautiful Humantay Lagoon.

Day 2: Soraypampa โ€“ Paso Salkantay โ€“ Chaullay

Stop At: Salkantay Trail, Peru
After a healthy breakfast we will head uphill toward the Salkantay Pass ( 4600 masl.) From the pass the view of Apu Salkantay Peak (6264masl.) is just incredible. The hike up to the pass is the most difficult part of the trek, but it is well worth the effort. From the pass, we will walk downhill toward the rainforest until we come to Chaullay where we will spend the night.

Day 3: Chaullay โ€“ Colpapampa โ€“ La Playa

Stop At: Banos Termales de Cocalmayo, 4 Km from Santa Teresa, Santa Teresa Peru
On our third day of hiking, we will concentrate on observing the tropical birds and the many fruit orchards and other plants in the region. We will descend into the humid rainforest where orchids, begonias, bromeliads, and other local plants abound. In the afternoon we will arrive at La Playa where we will camp. You will have the chance to relax in the town if you like.

Day 4: La Playa โ€“ Hidroelรฉctrica โ€“ Aguas Calientes

Stop At: Aguas Calientes, Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Cusco Region
After breakfast we will hike along a section of the old Incan trail to lost ruins of Llaqtapata (2650 masl.). From here there is a spectacular view of Machu Picchu Mountain and the canyon of the Urubamba River. From Llaqtapata our trek continues steeply downhill until we arrive at Hidroelรฉctrica. After a rest, we will follow the railroad tracks and hike to Aguas Calientes. There we will spend the night in a hotel at the foot of the Incan Citadel of Machu Picchu.

Day 5: Machu Picchu โ€“ Cusco

Stop At: Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu, Machu Picchu Peru
Very early in the morning we will catch the bus up to the most famous Inca site in the country, Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu means ยจOld Mountainยจ in Quechua. Quite often early morning mist will envelope the site before dawn. To watch the day progress and the sun burn off the mist is thrilling. We will walk up and down the streets and passageways of this ancient Incan city. We can observe the neighborhoods, plazas, royal living quarters, agricultural terraces, fountains, and solar observatories. After a 3-hour guided tour, you will have free time to explore on your own. At 10:00am you could climb up Huayna Picchu Mountain if you would like. In the afternoon it will be time to return to Aguas Calientes so we can board the train to Ollantaytambo. From there our private vehicle will take us back to Cusco.
