Itinerary of your trip Fascinating World Of Icebergs

  • Day 1 Day 1: Copenhagen - Nuuk
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 1: Copenhagen - Nuuk

(Tuesday, Thursday) Morning flight from Copenhagen to Nuuk. You will be welcomed at the airport by the local contact person and then have an information meeting about the rest of the program. Get out on the water and experience Greenland from the sea. A wonderful boat trip awaits you, during which you will have plenty of time to enjoy the view of the most beautiful mountains in the Nuukfjord. You will travel by boat from Nuuk out into the extensive fjord system. It is the second largest in the world. The mountains in Nuuk Fjord are beautiful and rugged - many of them tower above the sea. On the way into the fjord, you will pass the town of Nuuk. Out here on the water you will get an impression of how big Nuuk really is. You may also pass some magnificent icebergs. In the area around Nuuk there are not quite as many as in Disko Bay, but they are still beautiful and impressive. With a bit of luck, you will also get to see some wildlife. Out here on the fjord you are also closer to Mount Sermitsiaq, one of Nuukโ€™s most famous landmarks. In the evening, you can visit one of the great restaurants that Nuuk has to offer. 2 nights at Hotel Hans Egede Express (middle class) in Nuuk.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Nuuk City Tour And Aurora Boat Tour
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 2: Nuuk City Tour And Aurora Boat Tour

(Wednesday, Friday) In the morning you will go on a guided city tour in Nuuk. You will visit Greenlandโ€™s National Museum. Here you can see discoveries from all ages and population epochs in Greenland. After about 30 minutes in the museum, you continue your walk through an area called "Kolonihaven" (allotment garden). Most of the original houses from the 17th and 18th centuries still stand here. On the way, you will pass Hans Egedeโ€™s house, the sculpture of the Mother of the Sea and the controversial statue of Hans Egede at Greenland Cathedral. Afterwards you will go to the traditional market "Brættet", where very fresh fish, seals and reindeer caught here are sold. The tour continues to the Greenlandic government buildings and then to Greenlandโ€™s House of Culture "Katuaq". Afterwards, free time to discover Nuuk on your own. At 8 pm you will set off on an aurora boat tour. The phenomenon of the Northern Lights has always been fascinating, even for the inhabitants of the Arctic. You take the boat out of Nuuk towards Akia, also known as Nordland. Here you have a beautiful view over Nuukโ€™s skyline without any disturbing artificial light in the area. From here you continue into the Nuukfjord. The only artificial light comes from the boat, which stops several times and the engine is switched off so that you can enjoy the night sky above you and, last but not least, the silence - which is often interrupted by cries of "Oh" and "Ah" as the Northern Lights dance in the sky. Return to the hotel after approx. 3 hours. (Breakfast)

  • Day 3 Day 3: Nuuk - Ilulissat
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 3: Nuuk - Ilulissat

(Thursday, Saturday) Transfer to the airport and flight to Ilulissat (approx. 45 min). If possible, sit on the right side of the plane for a unique view of the ice sheet and the Icefjord on the approach to Ilulissat. Transfer to the hotel and welcome by the local contact person followed by an information talk. In the afternoon, you will explore Ilulissat, Greenlandโ€™s third largest city, on a guided 2-hour city tour. This area has been inhabited for around four and a half millennia. The name Ilulissat means "icebergs" - very easy to remember when you get your first view of the mouth of the Kangia Icefjord during the city tour. From here you can already see huge icebergs floating in the fjord. Back at the hotel, you will be treated to a welcome dinner. 5 nights at the Hotel Arctic (upper middle class) in Ilulissat. (breakfast, dinner)

  • Day 4 Day 4: Sermermiut Cultural Hike And Dog Sled Safari
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 4: Sermermiut Cultural Hike And Dog Sled Safari

(Friday, Sunday) On a guided hike (approx. 2 hours) to the settlement ruins of Sermermiut, you will learn how the indigenous people of the country lived for 4,000 years. You can still see the remains today and imagine what life must have been like in the past. You will also learn how the lives of the Greenlanders have changed since then. In the afternoon, you will go on a dog sled safari. The dog sled is Greenlandโ€™s best-known landmark and a 1,000-year-old Inuit tradition. Not many means of transportation have survived this long without changing their appearance or technology: a pack of happy dogs harnessed to a simple wooden sled. You canโ€™t explain this experience - you have to experience it. You sit in pairs in the dog sled, which is steered through the winter landscape by the musher (dog sled guide). Return to the hotel after approx. 1.5 hours. If you book the option with overnight stay in the Igloo Lodge, the afternoon is at your own disposal. The dog sled safari takes place on day 5. (breakfast)

  • Day 5 Day 5: The Fascination Of The Ice Fjord
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 5: The Fascination Of The Ice Fjord

(Saturday, Monday) A boat trip along the Kangia Icefjord will leave you in awe. The sight of the majestic icebergs is unique, even from a distance. Up close, however, it is simply breathtaking. The icebergs rise up to 100 meters out of the water. The experience is even more impressive when a chunk of ice suddenly breaks off with a crunching and cracking sound and finally falls into the water with a loud splash. The gigantic icebergs gather at the mouth of the ice fjord due to an underwater barrier. A unique sight! If you book the option with an overnight stay at Igloo Lodge, you will be taken to the lodge by snowcat. The Igloo Lodge consists of five spacious igloos, each offering space for two people. In the igloo, you are provided with reindeer fur and warm winter sleeping bags. There is a candle on the bedside table. With its help, the temperature inside the igloo is at freezing point. This is a great contrast to the minus 20 degrees outside. Meals are served in the warm communal hut. On site, you will go on a 1.5-hour dog sled safari (3 people sit in the sled at a time, which is steered by the musher). In the evening, you will watch the Northern Lights before setting off on your own personal overnight adventure. (breakfast)

  • Day 6 Day 6: Ilulissat
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 6: Ilulissat

(Sunday, Tuesday) Today is at your leisure and you are spoiled for choice. For example, donโ€™t miss a visit to the sewing workshop. Souvenirs are made from sealskin here. Or visit stores selling handicrafts made from teeth and bones. You can also go on various walks. For example, you can walk along the airport. This route takes you to a typical Greenlandic cemetery. If you book the option with overnight stay at Igloo Lodge, return to Ilulissat in the morning. Day at leisure and evening boat trip on the ice fjord. (breakfast)

  • Day 7 Day 7: Ilulissat
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 7: Ilulissat

(Monday, Wednesday) Soak up the atmosphere and life of the city on your last day. Travel back in time and feel the touch of history in the museum (optional). It is located in the house where Knud Rasmussen was born. The fishermen at the "Brættet", the weekly market, will give you an impression of typical Greenlandic food. Nowhere else can you find them fresher than here.

  • Day 8 Day 8: Ilulissat - Copenhagen
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm
