Day 5: Through The Maumturk Mountains To Lough Inagh

Transfer back to the valley of Tiernakill in the morning. The Maumturk Mountains are one of the highlights of the Great Western Way. On the way up, the landscape looks almost mountainous, but a look at the endless green hills and the many sheep shows why Connemare is one of the most beautiful corners of Ireland. Once you arrive at the pass of Maum Ean, a mystical site awaits you. St. Patrik visited this place a long time ago. A small chapel, Celtic crosses and a statue of St. Patrik make this a sacred place. End the day with a descent to Lough Inagh.

Day 6: Ireland’S Woods - From Lough Inagh To Leenane

Trees are a rare commodity in Ireland, but today’s stage takes you right through several forests. The stage itself is varied. They leave the hills of the Maumturk Mountains and the 12 Bens behind and soon reach flatter terrain. Your destination is the small coastal village of Leenane, which is picturesquely situated at the end of the Killary Fjord.
