However, you can enjoy the rest of the day in the city and to have a first contact with the country.

  • Day 2 Terjit
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Terjit

On the second day is when all the fun begins. Wake up early, have breakfast and jump on a local shared mini bus and head to the impressive Terjit Oasis. It will be a long journey, but a funny one. After checking into our Auberge, grab some lunch and then start exploring that paradise. The Oasis is the perfect place to escape the desert heat and relax in the natural waterways and pools between the giant date palms. Before heading back for a traditional dinner we will hike to the top for an awesome view over the Oasis and town. After sunset, we will have a traditional dinner in the auberge, sharing the meal with other travellers and locals.

  • Day 3 Ouadane
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Ouadane

Today is a long day so after having breakfast in the auberge, we will be ready for another adventure. We will start early with another ride on public transport back to the town of Atar. From here we will get a private 4x4, the only way to explore the desert cities. The first visit is Chinguetti, a city in the desert classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once there, we come across fabulous stone houses and an extraordinary view of the region. A city built in the VIII century, which worked as an obligatory stopping point for pilgrims heading towards Mecca, Saudi Arabia. These pilgrimsโ€™ movements allowed many of them to leave many texts such as scientific, religious, cultural, mathematical, among others, making the city, nowadays, keeping several old libraries with centenary manuscripts. In the early afternoon, we head towards Ouadane, the final destination of the day. Like Chinguetti, Ouadane is an ancient city in the desert, with several historical monuments that we will have the opportunity to visit. In the end of the day, we will have dinner in the auberge, sharing the meal among all the group members.

  • Day 4 Ben Amera
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Ben Amera

At Ouadane, we will explore this stunning UNESCO city during sunrise for beautiful colours. Once satisfied we will prepare for a long journey through the desert, in our jeep 4x4, to Ben Amera. During the journey, we will have many stops like Agrour, small natural shelters house a rich collection of rock paintings. In Atar, we will have a quick stop for lunch and then continue to our final destination of this day. Once arrived, we will set up camp in front of colossal Ben Amera Monolith. Being the second largest monolith in the world just after Uluru, itโ€™s the perfect place to explore and simply be in awe. We will have a relaxed evening around the campfire, eat delicious local desert meal and sleep under the stars.

  • Day 5 Choรปm
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Choรปm

On the 5th day of this adventure through Mauritania itโ€™s when things start to get interesting. Itโ€™s the day of the iron ore train. This train is 2,5 km long, the longest train in the world. The train connects the cities of Zouรฉrat in the desert and Nouadibou in the Atlantic coast. As amazing as the experience is, it can be quite a tough one so a chill day is definitely needed. After a remarkable sunrise over Ben Amera Monolith we will have breakfast and move onto the small town of Choum. When there, we will have lunch and stroll around in the city. During he afternoon we will board the train so we will stock up on food, water andโ€ฆ blankets, because during the night the temperature drops and could be cold. We recommend use of goggles due sand and iron dust. The train leaves roughly around 6pm. This is the start of one of the best experiences youโ€™ll ever have! Jump on, take a sit, relax and enjoy the journey!

  • Day 6 Nouadhibou
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Nouadhibou

A mythical journey on the largest train in the world ends when it arrives in the coastal city of Nouadibou, in the morning. We will have the opportunity to watch the sunrise directly from the car, in the middle of the desert. A trip that will be to tell to our grandchildren! Arriving in Nouadibou, we will head straight to the accommodation to take the best shower ever. We will get the morning to rest for a while. In the afternoon, we will visit the city of Nouadibou, the second largest in Mauritania. We will visit Shipwreck Beach, a beach where locals dismantle boats, using the iron removed from them. We will stroll around the city until night falls. In the end of the day, we will have dinner at our place, where we will share stories. The night is filled with shisha and plenty of tea.

  • Day 7 Nouakchott
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Nouakchott

Early in the morning, we will have breakfast and start a long journey in a shared mini bus back to Nouakchott. The journey takes around 6 hours so youโ€™ll get to the capital just in time for lunch. While in Nouakchott we will visit all the great spots like the Saudi Mosque, Porte Du Pรชche and the famous camel market, one of the biggest in the world. In the end of the day, we will have our last dinner. We will end the night with more tea, coffee, shisha and lots of stories to tell, remember good moments of the trip and share pictures.

  • Day 8 Nouakchott
