    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 3: Route: Kandy | Nuwara Eliya

Programme: You can enjoy with Tea plucking competition/Tea experience / Tea tasting. Nuwara Eliya โ€“ The โ€˜Little Englandโ€™ of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coolest places in the Island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence, houses like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions. The Victoria Park, in the middle of the town, is a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic and is also good for Birding as you get some rare birds in this Park. Seasons may be absent elsewhere in Sri Lanka, but here you can read them by the flowers, which bloom in the spring (march to May) and the fall (August and September). These are the โ€œseasonsโ€ when low-country folk flock to Nuwara Eliya to escape the sea level heat and humidity.

Tea plucking competition for the group (MAKE YOUR OWN TEA)

The group can attend to โ€œtea plucking competitionโ€ at the Tea Estate, each person will be given a typical tea plucking basket and 10 miniatures and the fastest couple that can pluck more tea leaves within a given time will be awarded with a gift.

The Tea Experience (Tea plantation visit)This is the essential Tea Trails experience. Our Resident Tea Planter will show you first hand the age-old tea making process. First, follow the trail of the planters of old Ceylon, as they trekked through the dense jungle looking for the best slopes on which to plant tea. Then on to watch the tea pluckers pick two leaves and a bud with deft hands. Then to the factory where the all-important conversion to โ€œmadeโ€ black tea happens. The machinery used is of very traditional British design, some as old as 100 years. The process is a very artisanal one, unchanged for a century. The daily complimentary tour ends with a tasting of different grades of this great brew. Together with tea-infused cuisine, tea based spatreatments and trekking trails that traverse tea-blanketed hills, you can literally lose yourself in tea. You will leave Tea Trails with a newly found appreciation of this wonder herb โ€œCamellia Sinensisโ€ & the terrier of Ceylon Tea.

Tea Factory visitAt our factory you will get to learn everything you need to know about Ceylon tea, while witnessing the step-by-step process of the manufacturingprocess, followed by a tea tasting session; where you will get to experience the wonder of different flavours of tea, while gazing at the panoramic views from our factory. Tourists also have the opportunity to purchase factory-fresh teas during their visits. You can follow Professional method of Tea-Tasting. Tea Tasting โ€“ Like wine tasting- is an art perfected through years of experience. Itโ€™s possibly even more difficult than wine tasting, simply because tea is a drink full of flavor complexities and subtle nuances-a fact often overlooked by many tea drinkers. The drink is generally described as having three main flavor dimensions-being a foreground (top note), middle ground and background flavor, all of which blend together to create a teaโ€™s individual flavor profile. Again, like wine, individual preferences are the best way to select the perfect brew for you. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.

  • Day 4 Day 4-5: Programme: After Breakfast, Trekking Through Tea Plantation & Visits The Sight In Nuwara Eliya.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 4-5: Programme: After Breakfast, Trekking Through Tea Plantation & Visits The Sight In Nuwara Eliya.

Tea Plantation โ€“ Tea was first planted in Sri Lanka in 1824 at the Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, when a few plants were brought from China. More were introduced from Assam in 1839. In 1867, a Scottish Planter named James Taylor planted tea seedlings in 8 hectares of forestland, in the Loolkondura Estate. In 1873, the tea export industry of Sri Lanka began with a modest 23 lbs. being shipped to London. Tea will grow only on rolling terrain and is classified by elevation into low grown, medium grown and high grown into 3 main groups. Today more than 200,000 hectares in highlands and other areas are under Tea and around 300 million Kilograms, with a 25% of world tea exports are done by Sri Lanka as the Worldโ€™s largest Tea exporter. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
