Karakorum functioned as the empireโs capital for just a few decades and was eventually demolished by invading the Chinese Min Dynasty troops in late 14th century. The main attraction today is the Erdene Zuu monastery, one of the first Buddhist monasteries in Mongolia established in 16th century when Buddhism was introduced as the new religion. Later the monastery suffered almost a complete destruction during the anti-religion campaigns of 1930-ies with just a dozen of temples surviving till present.
