      Amun-Re, the sun god, beams at you from afar and accompanies you on the flight from Germany to Egypt. Once you arrive in Cairo, the next smile awaits you - that of your local tour guide, who will accompany you to your hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.

      The day begins with a guided tour of the Egyptian Museum. The numerous exhibits and works of art bring the 5000-year-old history of the country to life. You will then visit the Citadel of Saladin from 1172 and the Alabaster Mosque from the 19th century. In the late afternoon, a special highlight of the day awaits you as you stroll through the narrow alleyways of the Khan-el-Khalili bazaar in the heart of Cairo. Overnight stay as on the previous day.       The day is all about the ancient Egyptian empire. You will marvel in awe at the huge pyramids of Giza (ca. 2600-2500 BC), the only surviving wonder of the ancient world, visit the Valley Temple and pay your respects to the world-famous Sphinx. Afterwards, your journey back in time goes even further and you travel to the necropolis of Sakkara. The Step Pyramid of Pharaoh Djoser (approx. 2700 BC), one of the first monumental buildings in human history, awaits you here. Overnight stay as on the previous day.       Today you leave Cairo and first travel to Memphis, the former capital of the Old Kingdom and the first province of Lower Egypt. There you will visit the statue of Ramses II, the alabaster sphinx and the memorial stone of King Apries. Continuing south, you will visit Dahshur with the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid of King Snofru (ca. 2650 BC). Then continue up the Nile to Minia, which you will reach in the late afternoon. Overnight stay in a hotel. (Travel time approx. 3-4 hours, 280 km).

      Today we first visit the rock tombs of Beni Hassan. The private princely tombs contain depictions of crafts, hunting and sports as well as other scenes of daily life in ancient Egypt. You will then visit Hermopolis, the cult center of the god Thoth, whom you will encounter in the form of a massive baboon statue. After a detour to the tomb temple of Petosiris in Tuna-el-Gebel, you come to Tell-el-Amarna, which was the capital under Akhenaten (approx. 1350 BC) and was called Achet-Aton - the rising of the sun.       Continuing south, you come to Abydos, where you visit the mortuary temple of Sethos I (approx. 1300 BC). With the worship of Osiris, the god of the afterlife, rebirth and the Nile, Abydos was one of the most important religious centers of Ancient Egypt. It is therefore hardly surprising that the Temple of Sethos, which was completed by his son Rhamses II, was one of the most sacred sites in the empire. From Abydos we continue to the temple of Dendera, the main place of worship of Hathor, the goddess of heaven and life. Overnight stay in a hotel. (Travel time approx. 5-6 hours, 350 km).

      Today is dedicated entirely to Thebes, the imposing capital of the Middle and New Kingdoms (ca. 2000-1000 BC). In the morning, head to the west side of the Nile to the realm of the dead in the Valley of the Kings. The detailed depictions in the pharaohsโ€™ tombs speak of faith and hope, and in the Terrace Temple of Queen Hatshepsut you can learn more about the famous expedition to Punt. Back on the east side, visit the Luxor Temple with its high reliefs and the temple city of Karnak, place of worship of the sun god Amun-Re and the heart of Egypt. Overnight stay as on the previous day. Tip (optional): If you wish, you can take an approx. 1-hour hot air balloon ride over Luxor with the first rays of sunshine and gain spectacular impressions of the temples from a birdโ€™s eye view.

      Today you will devote yourself entirely to the non-royal figures of ancient Egypt. You will visit the craftsmenโ€™s settlement of Deir el-Medine and its necropolis with the tomb of Sennedjem and the tomb of Inherchau to get an idea of how the pharaohโ€™s "artists" lived and decorated their own tombs. Afterwards you will visit the Theban private tombs in Thebes-West, the village of the tomb robbers Sheikh Abd el-Gurna and Medinet Habu, where the mortuary temple of Ramses III is located. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

      Day 9-11: Dahabiya Sailing Trip From Esna Via Edfu And Kom Ombo To Aswan

      In the morning you embark on your Dahabiya in Esna. Take your time to settle into your cabin and then set off on your 3-day sailing trip upstream towards Aswan. Over the next few days, you will visit the Temple of Horus at Edfu, the Temple of Amenophis III and the double sanctuary of the gods Sobek and Haroeris in Kom Ombo, as well as small villages and local markets. Watch the Nile farmers (fellahs) at work in the fields from the ship, see the date palm groves pass by and enjoy the sun on deck. In the evening, drop anchor on the shore or on one of the Nile islands and take a walk to explore the area. 3 nights on the boat.

      Today you will reach Aswan. Back on land, you will travel by bus to the Aswan High Dam and by motorboat to Agilkia Island. This is where the Philae temple of the goddess Isis is located, which was dismantled from the neighboring island of Philae until 1980 and rebuilt on the higher island of Agilkia to escape the rising waters of Lake Nasser. After the island excursion, you will return to Aswan and visit the unfinished obelisk and the Nubian Museum. In the evening, you will have the opportunity to explore the cityโ€™s lively bazaars. Overnight stay as on the previous day. (Travel time approx. 1h, 20 km).

      Early in the morning, take the bus to the rock temples of Abu Simbel. You will visit the large temple of Ramses II and the somewhat smaller temple of Nefertari, which once had to be saved from the rising Lake Nasser. Back in Aswan, an atmospheric finale awaits you. Just like the Egyptians 5000 years ago, you will sail through the rocks of the first cataract in a felucca. From the river you can see the Aga Khan mausoleum and on the way you stop in a Nubian village and enjoy a traditional dinner with a family. Overnight stay in a hotel. (Travel time approx. 6-7 hours, 580 km).
