      Our Transylvania Castles Tour starts at 09:00 AM. Our guide will pick you from your hotel (Airbnb, place) in Bucharest, and journey will begin with a road trip to Sinaia. In Sinaia you will visit one of the most prestigious castles in Romania, Peles Castle. Due to its beautiful architecture and idyllic setting, Peles is considered by several publications as one of the most spectacular castles in the world. In the past, it was used by the Romanian Royal Family as a summer royal residence until the communist regime seized it.

       

      Important info: Before booking your tour, please bear in mind that Peles Castle is closed on Mondays and some Tuesdays. If you can only begin the tour on Monday or Tuesday, the itinerary will be reversed. 

       

      After taking a tour of Peles Castle, you will head to Bran, a small village near Brasov, and visit Bran Castle. Prompted by Bram Stokerโ€™s best-selling novel Dracula, the fame of Bran Castle, better known as Draculaโ€™s Castle, stole the worldโ€™s spotlight. This is the reason why the Halloween party at Bran itโ€™s the most popular in the whole world! The solitary image of the castle and the Gothic architecture specific to Transylvaniaโ€™s Middle Ages have established an undying connection to Vlad the Impaler. Your tour of the castle will introduce you to the story of how Vlad the Impaler came to be associated with the legend of Dracula. The castle was built in the 13th century by the Saxons of Brasov where an older wooden fortification was previously built by the Teutonic Knights.

      After visiting the castle, you will take the old trade route that passes the Carpathian Mountains and head to Rasnov, medieval citadel perched on a hill ever since the 14th century. Your day will come to an end after visiting Rasnov fortress and will head back to the medieval city of Brasov to spend the night. If the time allows, at night, you can take a walking tour through Brasovโ€™s Council Square and the Black Church.


      After Bran Castle you will reach Brasov, a city founded by the same Theutonic Knights. Your city tour will start in the Council Square, the central square of the old fortification. The Black Church, Concil Tower, the White and the Black Towers, the narrowest street in Romania are some of the highlights of the city tour.

      You will leave Brasov at 09:00 in the morning.

      In Transylvania, you will hear about the legends at every step. On your quest to discover the medieval castles of this land, you will drive through some of the authentic Romanian villages in the area to reach Rupea fortress. In Rupea will find one of the oldest archeological sites in Romania, the first settlement dates from 5500 BC, but the actual construction is no less than 700 years old. A legend says that Decebalus, the famous Dacian king, committed suicide here during the Second Dacian War in 106 AD.

      Although Transylvaniaโ€™s citadels and castles are spectacular, one should not miss the medieval villages that preserve the medieval lifestyle from all the corners of Europe. On your way to Sighisoara, will stop in Viscri. It is a Saxon village filled with traditional houses and with astounding cuisine. Here, you will enjoy a delicious meal before continuing your journey.

      Once in Sighisoara citadel, you will start exploring its medieval streets, with narrow cobblestoned paths and colorful houses. The city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Sighisoara citadel was uninterruptedly inhabited since its establishment in the 13th century. The city is renowned for its beautiful street performers as well as local artisans who set up various demonstrations for tourists interested in learning the secrets of historical arts.  Here will visit the Clock Tower from where you can admire the entire citadel. Until 1435, Vlad the Impaler lived in the ocher-colored house located in the main square of the citadel. Nowadays, on the ground floor is a restaurant and on the first floor is the Museum of Weapons.

      After a busy day, you will check-in and spend the night in Sighisoara.

  • Day 3 Sighisoara - Biertan - Alba Carolina - Corvin Castle - Sibiu

      At 09:00 AM you will leave to Biertan, which boasts with the largest fortified church in Romania, surrounded by three rows of walls protected by six towers and three bastions. Biertan is one of Transylvaniaโ€™s villages with fortified churches and has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage since 1993.

      Your next stop is at Alba Iulia, a city where Romaniaโ€™s history vibrated for more than 2000 years. This place was, over the years, home to a Roman Fort, a medieval defense fortress, and ultimately, a large stellar-shaped fortress with bastions, built in the Vauban style.

      One of the most impressive Transylvanian castles is the famous Corvin Castle.

      The castle built in the Gothic style is underlined by tall towers decorated with dragons carved in stone, seemingly taken out of a fantasy novel. Also known as the Hunyadi Castle, it amazes not only through its architecture but also through the story that ties it to John Hunyadi, one of the legendary heroes that stopped the Ottoman invasions in Europe. 

      After visiting Corvin Castle, you will head to Sibiu, where you will spend the night in a beautiful boutique hotel.

      Your fourth and final day starts at 09:00 AM with a tour of Sibiu, a city that simply cannot be excluded from a tour of Romania. Sibiuโ€™s characteristics resemble those of a medieval German town: a large square surrounded by the most representative buildings. You will take a walking tour through the city, and in order to reach the defensive walls, you will pass over the most famous bridge in Romania, the Bridge of Lies.


      *From July to November the route to Curtea de Arges Monastery will be on Transfagarasan highway. From November to July the road is closed and we use a different route to the monastery.*


      Lunch: At your expense


      Your next stop is at Curtea de Arges, where will visit one of the most beautiful Orthodox Churches in Romania and the Necropolis our Royal Family.


      You will reach Bucharest at night, and your Transylvania Castels Tour will come to an end.
