Day 1: Arrive in Leh

Stop At: Leh, Leh, Leh District, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir
You will be received at the airport by the GHE team at Leh airport. Leh is situated at an altitude of 12000 ft. Coming from lower lands to this altitude is a shock for your body. But giving it enough rest set it right to explore life at this altitude. All you do, today is take rest, eat and relax in your nice and comfortable hotel in Leh.

Day 2: Explore Leh

Stop At: Shanti Stupa Road 500 steps from Changspa Road, Leh 194101 India
Before we step into the villages of Ladakh we would acquaint ourselves with the Ladakhi culture, heritage, and lifestyle. The team will visit Shanti Stupa and Leh Market today. Come back and rest in the same hotel.

Day 3: Drive to Sumda Chun

Stop At: Temple at Sumda Chun, Sumda Chun village, Leh India
Sumda Chun village is at a height of 3500 meters from the sea level and to date is only accessible by a trek of about 4 hours from the nearby road. Sumda Chun Monastery has been attributed to the period of Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo (957-1055) and is believed to be one of the three temples founded by him in one night along with Alchi Monastery and Mangyu. The team will stay at Apple Mountain Homestays Orchid Homestay, Tsogty.

Stop At: Confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers, Leh India
On the way to Sumda Chun, stop at the NH1 to see the confluence of the beautiful Indus River and Zanskar River.

Day 4: Stay near sacred lake of Ladakh

Stop At: Pangong Tso, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, India; Ladakh, , India;, Leh 194101 India
Drive to village Maan, Pangong today. The journey will take approximately 7 hours. You will cross ChangLa (17590ft) to reach there. The team will stay in our famous Astrostay. Pangong lake is one of the most famous lakes situated at high altitude. The lake reflects different shades of blue. It is considered sacred amongst natives. The Astrostay is India’s first initiative of its kind. The team is going to enjoy a stargazing session conducted by a trained team tonight.

Day 5: Astronomy at Pangong Lake

Stop At: Pangong Tso, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, India; Ladakh, , India;, Leh 194101 India
A morning walk to a sacred Pangong lake along with a climate change session is scheduled today. The local coordinator will discuss the effects of climate change at the Himalayas with the team. You can witness and feel the impact of global warming and pollution at high altitude regions. The activities during the day include archery sessions and village tours. The villagers are traditional archers and you may learn a few techniques there. The team will experience the daily lifestyle of the villagers. The team will enjoy a stargazing session again tonight.

Day 6: Drive back to Leh via Chang-La

Stop At: Changla Pass, India
On the way, you can click photographs at the famous ‘three idiot’ point. You can also stop at Chang-La to click photographs. Chang La (17950ft) is one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The name literally means “Northern Pass” (Chang =north, La = Pass). The small town of Tangste is the nearest settlement. The Changla Pass is the main gateway for the Changthang Plateau situated in the Himalayas. The nomadic tribes of the region are collectively known as the Changpa or Chang-pa.

Day 7: Visit Hemis and Shey Palace

Stop At: Hemis Monastery, Hemis India
The team will visit the famous Hemis Monastery & Shey Palace today. Hemis Monastery is a Himalayan Buddhist monastery gompa) of the Drukpa Lineage, in Hemis, Ladakh, India. Situated 45 km from Leh, the monastery was re-established in 1672 by the Ladakhi king Sengge Namgyal.

Stop At: Shey Monastery, Indus River, Leh India
Shey was the summer capital of Ladakh in the past. The original palace was built near the Shey village by Lhachen Palgyigon, the king of Ladakh (then called Maryul), in the 10th century.
