Artsakh - a hidden treasure, a piece of magic nature under the open sky, a kingdom of skyscraper mountains, deep canyons, cold water fountains, ancient monasteries and fortresses, carved stones. Christianity has been adopted in Artsakh since the 1st century the bright evidence of which is Dadivank. It was founded in the 1st century in the place of the graveyard of Dadi โ the pupil of apostle Tadeos. Dadi was the preacher of Christianity. Here one can physically and spiritually feel that his prayer certainly reaches the doors of heavenโค Dadivank is famous for its high art khachqars. The buildings of the monastery were built in different periods. The monastery has been gradually abandoned and deserted since 17th century, but it has never lost its effectiveness. The most essential ornament of Artsakh is Gandzasar. The entire value of external architecture is centered on the engraved dome. It was founded in the 13th century. According to the tradition the head of Hovhannes-Mkrtich is buried here. One of the churches is named after him. This is a soul based stone structure. This is the place where you can ever understand the meaning of soul soar. The capital city Stepanakert is in the heart of Artsakh. The most important state institutions are located here. The architect of this city is Aleqsandr Tamanayan who is the architect of Yerevan as well.

Askeran Fortress or Mayraberd is a unique structure and a mark of a new era in the architectural history of Artsakh. The double wall and the natural environment have made the fortress impregnable. The walls are approximately 2m thick and 9m high. The watchtowers are connected with narrow corridors. Today the semi destroyed fortress reigns the whole environment for its gorgeous look and tells about Artsakh and its inhabitantsโ powerfulness. There is an archeological museum in the area of fort-castle Tigranakert where weapons, ancient jewelry, furniture, ancient armenian fabrics are kept. The presence of these is the proof that Armenians lived here in the past. Itโs also possible to climb the fortress wall and to explore the marvelous nature of historical Tigranakert. Tigranakert fortress has no connection with the historical city Tigranakert. The part of the citadel, the fortified district, the basilica basement, royal fountains are seen at the top of the mountain.

The Temple of Garni is the only standing Greco-Roman colonnaded building in Armenia and the former Soviet Union. An Ionic pagan temple located in the village of Garni, Armenia, it is the best-known structure and symbol of pre-Christian Armenia. According to some scholars it was not a temple but a tomb and thus survived the universal destruction of pagan structures. It collapsed in a 1679 earthquake. Renewed interest in the 19th century led to excavations at the site in early and mid-20th century, and its eventual reconstruction between 1969 and 1975, using the anastylosis method. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Armenia and the central shrine of Armenian neopaganism.

While the main chapel was built in 1215, the monastery complex was founded in the 4th century by Gregory the Illuminator at the site of a sacred spring inside a cave. The name commonly used for the monastery today, Geghard, or more fully Geghardavank meaning "the Monastery of the Spear", originates from the spear which had wounded Jesus at the Crucifixion, allegedly brought to Armenia by Apostle Jude, called here Thaddeus, and stored amongst many other relics. Now it is displayed in the Echmiadzin treasury.

It is believed that Hannibal, the Carthaginian General who was persecuted by Rome, was also instrumental in establishing Artashat. Artashat remained the capital of the dynasty till the reign of King Khosrov III (330โ339) when it was moved to Dvin. Subsequently, Artashat was destroyed by the Persian King Shapur II. Artashat is close to the hillock of Khor Virap. Until its chapel was built, Khor Virap was used as royal prison.

After the artificial draining of Lake Sevan, which started in the era of Joseph Stalin, the water level fell about 20 metres, and the island transformed into a peninsula. At the southern shore of this newly created peninsula, a guesthouse of the Armenian Writers' Union was built.
