Day 3: Lake Sevan โ€“ Dadivank- Gandzasar - Stepanakert

It's the right time to get away from the hot summer heat or just have a walk on the coast of the blue - eyed beauty Sevan, cause we have a long way trip to the unforgettable Artshakh world. Artsakh - a hidden treasure, a piece of magic nature under the open sky, a kingdom of skyscraper mountains, deep canyons, cold water fountains, ancient monasteries and fortresses, carved stones. Christianity has been adopted in Artsakh since the 1st century the bright evidence of which is Dadivank. It was founded in the 1st century in the place of the graveyard of Dadi โ€“ the pupil of apostle Tadeos. Dadi was the preacher of Christianity. Here one can physically and spiritually feel that his prayer certainly reaches the doors of heavenโ€ค Dadivank is famous for its high art khachqars. The buildings of the monastery were built in different periods. The monastery has been gradually abandoned and deserted since 17th century, but it has never lost its effectiveness. The most essential ornament of Artsakh is Gandzasar. The entire value of external architecture is centered on the engraved dome. It was founded in the 13th century. According to the tradition the head of Hovhannes-Mkrtich is buried here. One of the churches is named after him. This is a soul based stone structure. This is the place where you can ever understand the meaning of soul soar. The capital city Stepanakert is in the heart of Artsakh. The most important state institutions are located here. The architect of this city is Aleqsandr Tamanayan who is the architect of Yerevan as well.

Day 4: Tour in Stepanakert / Historical-Geological museum of Stepanakert / Market / Askeran fortress / Tigranakert

In this museum it is also possible to see the inhabitants of Artsakhโ€™s rich fauna. Market is the colorful part of each city where various testes are mixed. Here tourists can find many species of known and unknown souses, a large selection of dried herbs, juicy fruits and vegetables and of course traditional Jengialov hats, which is made right in the market by merchant women from Artsakh. Askeran Fortress or Mayraberd is a unique structure and a mark of a new era in the architectural history of Artsakh. The double wall and the natural environment have made the fortress impregnable. The walls are approximately 2m thick and 9m high. The watchtowers are connected with narrow corridors. Today the semi destroyed fortress reigns the whole environment for its gorgeous look and tells about Artsakh and its inhabitantsโ€™ powerfulness. There is an archeological museum in the area of fort-castle Tigranakert where weapons, ancient jewelry, furniture, ancient armenian fabrics are kept. The presence of these is the proof that Armenians lived here in the past. Itโ€™s also possible to climb the fortress wall and to explore the marvelous nature of historical Tigranakert. Tigranakert fortress has no connection with the historical city Tigranakert. The part of the citadel, the fortified district, the basilica basement, royal fountains are seen at the top of the mountain.

Day 5: Tatev Ropeway โ€“Khndzoresk โ€“ Old Areni โ€“ Yerevan

The Tatev Monastery is a 9th-century Armenian Apostolic monastery located on a large basalt plateau near the Tatev village in Syunik Province in southeastern Armenia. The term "Tatev" usually refers to the monastery. The monastic ensemble stands on the edge of a deep gorge of the Vorotan River. Tatev is known as the bishopric seat of Syunik and played a significant role in the history of the region as a center of economic, political, spiritual and cultural activity.

Day 7: Garni - Geghard - KhorVirap

Stop At: Garni Temple, Geghard Monastery Road H3, Garni Armenia
The Temple of Garni is the only standing Greco-Roman colonnaded building in Armenia and the former Soviet Union. An Ionic pagan temple located in the village of Garni, Armenia, it is the best-known structure and symbol of pre-Christian Armenia. According to some scholars it was not a temple but a tomb and thus survived the universal destruction of pagan structures. It collapsed in a 1679 earthquake. Renewed interest in the 19th century led to excavations at the site in early and mid-20th century, and its eventual reconstruction between 1969 and 1975, using the anastylosis method. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Armenia and the central shrine of Armenian neopaganism.

Stop At: The Monastery of Geghard, Near Goght Village, Geghard Armenia
While the main chapel was built in 1215, the monastery complex was founded in the 4th century by Gregory the Illuminator at the site of a sacred spring inside a cave. The monastery had thus been originally named Ayrivank, meaning "the Monastery of the Cave". The name commonly used for the monastery today, Geghard, or more fully Geghardavank meaning "the Monastery of the Spear", originates from the spear which had wounded Jesus at the Crucifixion, allegedly brought to Armenia by Apostle Jude, called here Thaddeus, and stored amongst many other relics. Now it is displayed in the Echmiadzin treasury.

King Artashes I, founder of the Artashesid dynasty, established his Armenian capital at Artashat (also known as Artaxtisata) around 180 BC. It is believed that Hannibal, the Carthaginian General who was persecuted by Rome, was also instrumental in establishing Artashat. Artashat remained the capital of the dynasty till the reign of King Khosrov III (330โ€“339) when it was moved to Dvin. Subsequently, Artashat was destroyed by the Persian King Shapur II. Artashat is close to the hillock of Khor Virap. Until its chapel was built, Khor Virap was used as royal prison.

Day 8: Saghmosavank - Saint George`s Monastery โ€“ Tsakhevank

Stop At: Saghmosavank Monastery, Artashavan 0211 Armenia
The Saghmosavank is a 13th-century Armenian monastic complex located in the village of Saghmosavan in the Aragatsotn Province of Armenia. Like the Hovhannavank monastery which is five kilometers south, Saghmosavank is situated atop the precipitous gorge carved by the Kasagh river. Their silhouettes dominate the adjacent villages and rise sharp against the background of the mountains crowned by Mount Aragats.

Saint George's Monastery of Mughni was one of the important pilgrimages of the medieval Armenia. It was founded in the first half of the 14th century.

Stop At: Tsakhevank Church, Tsakhevank Road, Jrambar Armenia
Arai Ler (Mount Ara) situated atop of the Tsakhevank. The rock-cut monastery seems to be the symbol of strong faith. The most delusional wish of each pilgrim who visits this place comes true by the force of great belief as well as many diseases are cured here. The pilgrims also come here for the curative water. According to the tradition the water pouring from the ceiling of the cave are the tears of a virgin named Tsaghik (flower), these tears are healing and make dreams come true. During the tour we will find out why this area is also called the shrine of virgin Varvare and what curative features the water pouring from the ceiling have.

Day 9: Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Cathedral (Saint Gayane, Saint Hripsime) - Zvartnots

Stop At: Echmiadzin Monastery Complex, Vagharshapat 1101 Armenia
Armenia is the first nation which has adopted Christianity as the state religion, thus we will have religious tour in the place where the only son of God descended and where Saint Gregory the Illuminator had built Etchmiadzin Cathedral. We will also see Saint Hripsime and Saint Gayane Churches devoted to the martyred virgins.

Stop At: Zvartnots Temple, Yerevan-Vagharshapat Highway Near the Echmiadzin Monastery Complex, Vagharshapat 1101 Armenia
The magnificent Zvartnots Temple constructed in the 7-th century is located 5 km from Echmiadzin is one of the brightest landmarkst of medieval Armenian architecture. Unfortunately, like the majority of other ancient Armenian temples, Zvartnots has survived only in ruins since it was completely destroyed by powerful earthquake in the 10 th century. But even the ruins of this temple give us the idea of its rare and majestic beauty.

Day 10: Tsaghkadzor - Sevanavank - Dilijan

Sevanavank is a monastic complex located on a peninsula at the northwestern shore of Lake Sevan in the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia, not far from the town of Sevan. Initially the monastery was built at the southern shore of a small island. After the artificial draining of Lake Sevan, which started in the era of Joseph Stalin, the water level fell about 20 metres, and the island transformed into a peninsula. At the southern shore of this newly created peninsula, a guesthouse of the Armenian Writers' Union was built.

Monastery Haghartsin situated in the mountains not far from Dilijan, was built in the 13th century. The next stop is Goshavank. The monastery complex of Gosh is one of the centers of spiritual and educational interest of medieval Armenia. Goshavank proudly arises on the top and it is especially glorious and beautiful in cloudy weather. While climbing to the church, one can't help admiring the rugged nature of the Tavush region. This is one of the rare places on the planet that makes you reach the sky. The sky is closer here, the air is cleaner.Goshavank was founded by medieval thinker and public figure Mkhitar Gosh. The authorotive "American Encyclopedia" named him one of the prominent representatives of the Armenian Renaissance.
