Day 2: Trani And Castel Del Monte

In the morning you will meet your tour guide and get an insight into the program of the coming days. Then you will set off for the beautiful port city of Trani. Here you will be amazed, among other things, by the "Queen of Apulian Cathedrals". Originally, the Staufer fort was surrounded by water and served as a prison for several years. Afterwards you will visit the stone "crown of Apulia", the Castel del Monte. The mysterious castle of Emperor Frederick II is enthroned on a hill - visible from afar. The fascinating symmetry is characteristic of the famous fort. The organic unity of the structure makes the castle seem impregnable; inside, the high rooms, once richly decorated with marble, are impressive. Castel del Monte has already served as a model for the filming of the novel "In the Name of the Rose" by Umberto Eco. (B/A)

  • Day 3 Day 3: Lecce And Otranto
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 3: Lecce And Otranto

Lecce is considered the most beautiful city in southern Italy, idyllically located on the spur of the Italian boot. The baroque city is also called "Florence of the South". The tuff stone quarried in the area is found in the ornate buildings of the old town and allowed the particularly rapid spread of the unique "Lecce Baroque" from the 17th and 18th centuries. Stroll through the well-kept old town and let yourself be enchanted by the golden-yellow play of colors when the midday sun falls on the stones of the baroque facades. Isnโ€™t this a perfect setting for a creamy, original Italian cappuccino? Afterwards, you will visit Otranto. Often referred to as the "gateway to the Orient", it is separated from Albania by just 80 kilometers. (B/A)

  • Day 4 Day 4: Altamura And Matera
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 4: Altamura And Matera

In the morning you will drive through beautiful countryside to Altamura. On the way you will stop at a local bakery and taste the typical focaccia. A real delicacy! Altamura itself you will explore during a leisurely stroll through the picturesque old town alleys. Your next destination is the European Capital of Culture 2019 - Matera. Dwellings were carved into the soft limestone here as early as the 11th century. Once poor citizens, farmers, shepherds and day laborers lived in the Sassi, as the rock dwellings are called. Today there are beautiful lodgings and restaurants. (B/A)

  • Day 5 Day 5: Cisternino And Martina Franca
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 5: Cisternino And Martina Franca

Right in the heart of the Itria Valley, mingle with the locals in the morning: The weekly market of Cisternino is bustling with activity. Stroll along the stalls and through the winding streets of the charming village. Stop at a local cheese dairy and taste typical Italian cheese. Of course, you will also learn interesting facts about cheese making. Afterwards, Martina Franca with its elegantly unobtrusive old town from the baroque period is on the program. Whitewashed facades and curved lines of dark windows and balconies characterize Martina Franca. A brief stop in Locorotrondo rounds out your tour - the village is considered one of the most beautiful in Italy. In the evening, enjoy freshly grilled meats, salads and dessert at a butcherโ€™s shop. What a feast! (B/A)

  • Day 6 Day 6: Ostuni And Alberobello
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 6: Ostuni And Alberobello

Today you will start your day with a visit to the "White City" Ostuni. Southwest of Brindisi, the charming town is spread over three hills and shines from afar with its whitewashed house facades. Before driving to Alberobello, stop at an oil mill. You will learn why the Italians love their olive oil so much during a taste of the liquid gold. The village of Alberobello is known for its cute little round houses with the characteristic tiled roofs made of limestone slabs, called trulli. In 1996, the village was placed under the protection of UNESCO. At a local enoteca, the day will end with regional wines and small Italian appetizers. (B/A)

  • Day 7 Day 7: Bari, Capital Of Apulia
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 7: Bari, Capital Of Apulia

Explore the lovingly restored old town, which in some parts resembles an oriental kasbah. Here, Italian life takes place right before your eyes: Women quietly rolling pasta, chatting loudly. Typical Ape vans loaded with fresh fruit and fish make their deliveries, and everyone enjoys their espresso in one of the sidewalk cafes. Look forward to other impressive buildings such as the Romanesque Sanctuary of San Nicola, the first major building of Apulian Romanticism, or the Cathedral of San Sabino, richly decorated with ornaments. Afterwards you will visit Polignano a Mare. The small town is situated on a limestone cliff above the turquoise sea. In the evening, enjoy dinner at a local seafood restaurant on the harbor of Savelletri. A great setting to review the past days. (B/A)
