  • Day 1 Day 1: Port City Arica

      Day 1: Port City Arica

      Individual arrival in Arica (we recommend arriving around noon). Upon arrival at Arica Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your local, German-speaking trekking tour guide and take a private transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, you will have time to recover and relax from the flight, explore the port city on your own and, for example, take an optional 45-minute boat trip along the Pacific coast. Overnight at hotel in Arica in room with private bathroom.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Port City Arica - Andes Village Putre

      Day 2: Port City Arica - Andes Village Putre

      In the morning, you will take a walk with your guide to the lookout mountain โ€œEl Morroโ€, followed by a city tour to the harbor with its countless pelicans, seagulls and sea lions, as well as to the cathedral โ€œSan Marcosโ€, designed in France by Gustave Eiffel. In the afternoon, you will travel in a private minibus through the Azapa Valley and visit the San Miguel de Azapa Museum there, where you can marvel at approximately 7000-year-old mummies of Chinchorro culture. Afterwards, itโ€™s off to the idyllic Andean village of Putre at 3,500 m high. On the way there, youโ€™ll visit the pre-Columbian fortress of Pucara de Copaquilla.

      Day 3: Acclimatization Hike Around Putre

      Today, you will explore the surroundings of Putre a little closer (3,500m) and hike through beautiful scenery to the โ€œPinturas Rupestresโ€ (rock paintings) of Vilacaurani. You will encounter alpacas and llamas and also get to know the typical flora of this region. In the evening, enjoy alpaca meat and quiรฑoa.

      Day 4: Acclimatization Hike Around Putre On Old Smuggler Trails

      After breakfast, a short transfer from Putre towards Nevados de Putre will take you to an altitude of approx. 4,200m. Youโ€™ll hike back to Putre on an old smugglerโ€™s trail. After this approximately 4-hour hike through the breathtaking landscape of the Andean highlands, youโ€™ve earned time to relax.

      Your acclimatization hike today will take you to the best insider tip of the Altiplano: Suri Plaza. After an hour and a halfโ€™s drive, you will reach the colorful โ€œValle del Marteโ€ = โ€œMars Valleyโ€ โ€” so called because of its deep red and orange sands. After a climb of only 250 m, you will reach a breathtaking viewpoint at 5,100 m (small pre-peak of Cerro Cosapilla) โ€” with a view of the surrounding numerous 6000m peaks of the Andes. Descent approx. 250 m. After this approx. 2-3 hour trekking through the breathtaking Altiplano landscape, you deserve a relaxation period. You drive to Lauca National Park, founded in 1970, which was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. You will marvel at the highest volcanic lake on earth, Lake Chungarรก (4,570m), which gracefully reflects the payachatas (twin volcanoes) Parinacota (6,342m) and Pomerape (6,282m). You will then drive back to Putre.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Ascent Of Cerro Guane Guane (5,097M)

      Day 6: Ascent Of Cerro Guane Guane (5,097M)

      After about an hourโ€™s drive past the Andean village of Parinacota, you start your trekking to climb the 5,097m high Cerro Guane Guane. The view from the top of the summit gives you an unforgettable view over the infinitely wide Altiplano with its olive-colored raised bogs (Bofedales) and the lagoons framed by salt white. You can even see all the way to Boliviaโ€™s highest mountain, the Sajama (6,520m). Archaeological remains of the Aymara culture can also be found in the summit area, which impressively point to religious ceremonies of days gone by. You will then drive back to Putre and round off the evening with a leisurely meal together.

  • Day 7 Day 7: Putre - Guallatiri - Salar De Surire - Colchane

      Day 7: Putre - Guallatiri - Salar De Surire - Colchane

      After the first days of trekking, itโ€™s a bit more comfortable today. You first drive from Putre to the village of Guallatiri at 4,280m, which is located at the foot of the volcano of the same name. Then head to the Salar de Surire, where you can take a relaxing bath in the thermal springs โ€” Termas de Polloquere at 4,200m. Along the way, youโ€™ll visit Las Vicuรฑas Nature Reserve. In the wonderfully situated nature reserve, you canโ€™t get enough of the abundant bird and animal life. Vicuรฑas, llamas, alpacas, ร‘andus and also the pink flamingos have found an ideal habitat there. The diverse landscape with its unique wildlife makes every hour of the trip an unforgettable natural experience. In the afternoon, arrival in the picturesque Andean village of Colchane (3,750 m), which is dominated by the snow-capped Isluga volcano (5,530 m).

      Today you leave the Chilean Andean highlands. Along the way, youโ€™ll marvel at one of the largest archaeological representations of a human being, the giant of Atacama. You will then visit the former Humberstone saltpeter mine (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the famous church in the pilgrimage site of La Tirana. In the afternoon, you will reach your accommodation near the Pica desert oasis (1,325m), which is known for its limes and โ€œcochasโ€ (natural baths). The lovely village is the ideal place to relax.

  • Day 9 Day 9: Pampa De Tamarugal - San Pedro De Atacama

      Day 9: Pampa De Tamarugal - San Pedro De Atacama

      Today, you will travel in your private minibus through the impressive pampas del Tamarugal, past former saltpeter mines and salt pans. Along the way, youโ€™ll visit the lovingly restored church of Matilla, the Geoglifos de Pintados, an impressive and important archaeological site, and pass through the village of Quillagua, supposedly the driest place in the world. In the afternoon, you will reach the San Pedro de Atacama desert oasis at 2,400 metres. With a hippie flair, San Pedro de Atacama with its diverse restaurants and bars is the ideal starting point for excursions into the bizarre desert landscape. In the evening, enjoy the breathtaking play of colors of the sunset above the Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon).

      This

      morning, a hike takes you through the sparkling Cordillera del Sal (salt cordillera) to the Valle de la Muerte (Valley of Death) and the Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley). After a leisurely lunch break in San Pedro, take a trip to Laguna Chaxa in the afternoon to see a variety of flamingos in their natural environment up close. Afterwards, enjoy the view when, while the evening sun gives the volcanoes a deep red face.

      Day 11: Ascent Of Cerro Toco (5.604M)

      In the morning, you will drive to the starting point of todayโ€™s summit tour, which is located at 5,200 m, in about an hour and a half. From there, you will reach the summit of Cerro Toco (5,604m) in about 2.5 hours of ascent via a well-trodden path. You will be rewarded with an unforgettable view of the surrounding volcanic landscape up to the Licancabur. After this summit experience, youโ€™ll return to San Pedro.

  • Day 12 Day 12: Tatio Geysers - Guatin Gorge
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 12: Tatio Geysers - Guatin Gorge

      In the very early morning, you set off to the geyser โ€œEl Tatioโ€, which is located at an altitude of 4330m (travel time approx. 1.5h). Fantastic moods can be captured there at sunrise! You will be rewarded with an unforgettable view of the peaking geysers. You also have the opportunity to take a soothing bath in a hot spring.
      Afterwards, a walk will take you to the spectacular rocky Guatin Gorge (Quebrada de Guatin at an altitude of approx. 3,500m), where you will get to know the typical flora of the otherwise dry Atacama Desert. You will see different types of cacti and also the striking Cola de Zorro (fox tail). We then head back to the desert oasis of San Pedro de Atacama.
      The afternoon is free for optional excursions (e.g. horse riding, sand banks or swimming trip to Laguna Cejar) or to relax.
