Amman - Wadi Mujib (Siq Trail) - Little Petra

Today we begin the adventure after breakfast at your hotel in Amman, as we take you to Wadi Mujib for your first adventure hike.

Enjoy the beautiful views of the Dead Sea along the way, and get ready for a self-guided hike on the Siq Trail: 2 to 3 hours of swimming, climbing, splashing, hiking, sliding, and jumping through a stunning gorge! Follow the riverโ€™s course between towering sandstone cliffs to the base of a large waterfall. Depending on seasonal rainfall levels, you may encounter pools deep enough to swim in, requiring extra effort. For safety, you will wear life jackets provided by the Wadi Mujib Visitor Center.

After a short break to dry off and change clothes, we will continue on to Little Petra. This site, also known as Siq al-Barid (English: the Cold Canyon), is believed to have been a โ€˜suburbโ€™ of Petra, likely housing merchants traveling along the Silk Road. After some time to explore, we will head to our home for the night: a nearby Bedouin camp.

Hike from Little Petra to Petra - Wadi Rum

Today, we will enter the ancient Nabataean city of Petra โ€˜through the back door,โ€™ avoiding most of the other tourists. Amidst high sandstone mountains, a good path leads down through Wadi Ghurab. The trail then follows a Nabataean route out of the valley, skirting the final mountain along a natural rock terrace that has been โ€˜enhancedโ€™ for the safety of hikers. Even so, it narrows slightly before reaching a hidden plateau high above the dramatic chasm of Wadi Siyyagh. Just beyond, โ€˜The Monasteryโ€™ suddenly comes into view.

After walking the final meters to this impressive structure, weโ€™ll take a short break to enjoy the view. Thereโ€™s also a Bedouin cafรฉ where you can grab a refreshment. Then, more Nabataean steps lead us down to the main site. Weโ€™ll walk along a colonnaded street, passing rock-cut tombs, temples, and a Roman-style theatre, before arriving at Petraโ€™s most iconic monument: the Treasury. Take your time to admire the intricate details of its faรงade. After a final look, we will exit the site through the Siq, a narrow, high-walled canyon, and head onward to the stunning desert of Wadi Rum, where weโ€™ll spend the night.
