Your individual rental car round trip starts today in Iceland. After your arrival in Keflavik, you will pick up your rental car and drive through the fascinating lava fields of the Reykjanes Peninsula to Hveragerdi. Here you will spend the first two nights in the middle of a picturesque landscape with geothermal springs and swimming opportunities on the Varmá River.
Day 2 The Golden Circle - Gullfoss - Geysir - Thingvellir National Park (F)

Along the Golden Circle, you will experience some of Iceland’s most iconic sights and natural phenomena. Starting with the majestic Gullfoss waterfall, which cascades impressively into the valley. In the high temperature area of Haukadalur, you will experience the active geyser Strokkur, which regularly shoots fountains up to 30 meters into the sky. The journey then continues to Thingvellir, where the world’s first democratic parliament was proclaimed in 930. This is also where the geotectonic borders of Europe and America meet, resulting in fascinating rock formations in the middle of the rift valley. After this eventful day, you return to Hveragerdi.

During your rental car round trip, you will reach the breathtaking Skogafoss waterfall in the south of Iceland, which has fascinated not only nature lovers but also the film industry with its majestic sight. Further south rises the spectacular headland of Dyrholaey, known not only for its impressive landscape but also for its numerous seabirds, including the characteristic puffins. Your journey then takes you to Vik, where you can take a relaxing stroll along the black sand beach while the Reynisdrangar rock needles rise majestically from the sea. You will spend the night in Kirkjubaejarklaustur, surrounded by Iceland’s incomparable natural beauty.

After breakfast, continue your journey to Skaftafell National Park, where the majestic Hvannadalshnukur, Iceland’s highest peak at 2,110 meters, towers over the area. This place resembles a green oasis with a rich variety of flora and fauna waiting to be explored.

You will then reach the impressive Jökulsarlon glacier lagoon, where glistening blue icebergs float majestically on the water. A ride in an amphibious vehicle between the mighty icebergs offers you a unique perspective and the opportunity to learn more about the lagoon. Your overnight stay is planned in Höfn.

As you drive along the impressive east coast, you should plan a stop at Petras Stone House. There you can marvel at an extensive and varied collection of different Icelandic stone formations. Continue to your overnight stay at Myvatn.

The region around Lake Myvatn is known for its extraordinary variety of natural wonders and is considered one of the most beautiful and volcanically active areas in Iceland. Here you can admire the impressive pseudocraters that characterize the Myvatn nature reserve.
Day 6 Dimmuborgir (F)

Today you will explore the fascinating lava landscapes during a walk through the labyrinth of Dimmuborgir. Legend has it that trolls are hidden in the lava rocks - how many will you discover?

Afterwards, you have the opportunity to bathe in one of Iceland’s hot springs. The inviting Jardbödin bathing area invites you to relax.

Later you will marvel at the colorful high-temperature areas of Namaskard, where boiling mud springs and solfataras will impress you, as well as the traces of the last eruption of the Krafla volcano.

Your next destination is the mighty Dettifoss waterfall, which cascades down into the canyon with impressive force. Let yourself be enchanted by the unique atmosphere of this natural wonder!
Day 7 Asbyrgi - Húsavik - Godafoss - Akureyri (F)

In the morning, your journey takes you to the Tjörnes peninsula. There you will visit the impressive Asbyrgi gorge before continuing to the picturesque fishing town of Husavik. On the way to Akureyri, you will make a stop at the famous Godafoss waterfall, surrounded by a fascinating lava landscape. The journey then continues to Hvammstangi, where you will spend the night.
Day 8 Grabrok - Snaefellsnes - Reykjavik (F)

Continue to the west of Iceland. There you will take a walk along the extinct crater Grabrok before reaching the Snaefellsnes peninsula. Known as ’Iceland in miniature’, it offers a variety of typical Icelandic landscapes. On the horizon you will see the glaciated volcanic cone of Snaefellsjökull, which serves as the entrance to the underworld in Jules Verne’s novel. Your journey then takes you through the Walfjord Tunnel to Borgarnes and finally to Reykjavik, where you will spend the last two nights.

The charming old town stretches along the harbor and the picturesque Lake Tjörnin, while the imposing Hallgrims Church dominates the cityscape. Perlan is enthroned on the Öskjuhlíd hill and offers a breathtaking view of Reykjavik and its surroundings.
