      Arrival in Baku and transfer to your hotel. In Baku, the exciting juxtaposition of modernity and history is fascinating. Here you will find buildings steeped in history alongside highlights of contemporary architecture. You will stroll through the alleyways of the old town (UNESCO World Heritage Site), explore the magnificent Shirvanshah Palace and the Maiden Tower. Lunch together and then free time in the afternoon. 2 nights in Baku. (M)

  • Day 3 Day 3: Gobustan

      Day 3: Gobustan

      Today you can look forward to the Stone Age area of Gobustan with about 40,000 rock carvings and engravings (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Afterwards, you will visit a fire temple of the Zoroastrians on the peninsula of Apsheron. Back in Baku, you will return to a typical restaurant for dinner. (B/A)

      Your way leads you first to the ancient city of Shamakha, which was the residence of the Shirvanshah for centuries. Afterwards you will stop at Gabala and visit the ruins of ancient Gabala. Continue to Sheki and have dinner at a local restaurant. 2 nights in Sheki. (B/A)

      Sheki is famous for its past as an important trading center on the legendary Silk Road. Until today you can feel the oriental atmosphere. After visiting the worth seeing Khan Palace and the 18th century caravanserai you will enjoy a tea break with a local family. Then you will drive to the nearby mountain village of Kish. Here you will visit the museum church, one of the oldest churches in the Caucasus. (B/A)

      Day 6: To Georgia

      You cross the border into Georgia and are met by your Georgian tour guide. Your way leads you through the important wine-growing region of Kakheti in the east of Georgia. At a winery you will have lunch and taste Georgian wines. Afterwards you will visit the picturesque town of Signagi. Here you can enjoy the view of the mountains of the Great Caucasus. Last but not least, your way will lead you to the tomb of St. Nino in the nunnery of Bodbe. 2 nights in Tbilisi. (B/M)

      On a tour of the old town, you will immerse yourself in the mixture of Orient and Occident. Oriental markets, mosques, synagogues, churches and old wooden houses with elaborately carved balconies characterize the picture. You will have a beautiful view from the ruins of the fortress, which is enthroned on a hill above the old town. Afterwards, you will stroll along Rustaveli Street, a promenade with parliament buildings and residential houses from the 19th century. (B/A)

      You will leave the capital Tbilisi and drive on the Georgian Army Road to Kasbegi. On the way you will visit Mtskheta, the ancient capital and religious center of Georgia. Admire the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and the Dzhvari Monastery (both UNESCO World Heritage Sites). The fortified church of Ananuri sits picturesquely above the Zhinvali reservoir against the imposing backdrop of the Caucasus Mountains. Over the Cross Pass (2,395 m) you will reach the village of Kasbegi. If the weather is good, you can see as far as the snow-capped peak of Kasbek (5,033 m). 1 night in Kasbegi (room with mountain view bookable, extra charge 25 โ‚ฌ p.p., please book with reservation).       By off-road vehicle you will drive to Gergeti Trinity Church, one of the most photographed churches in Georgia, located more than 2,000 m above sea level. If the weather cooperates, a wonderful view of the mountains of the Caucasus awaits you. Back in Tbilisi, you will still have time to stroll around the city. 1 night in Tbilisi. (F)

  • Day 10 Day 10: Monasteries &Amp; Dilijan

      You say goodbye to Georgia and "Hello Armenia". Together with your Armenian tour guide, you will explore the two monastery complexes of Sanahin and Haghpat (both UNESCO World Heritage Sites), which are perched on the high plateau above the city of Alaverdi. On the way to Dilijan you will stop for tea with the Molokans, Old Believer Russians who have been native to Armenia since the 18th century. Once in Dilijan, take a walk through the artistsโ€™ street with ceramic and wood carving workshops. 1 night in Dilijan. (B/M)

      You will drive along Lake Sevan, the "blue pearl" of Armenia and visit Noratus cemetery with its numerous cross stones. Crossing the spectacular Selim Pass, where you will visit a medieval caravanserai, you will reach Noravank Monastery (13th/14th c.), idyllically located at the end of a rugged gorge. At the home of a local family you will taste home-made dishes and home-made red wine. Drive through the Ararat valley to the beautifully situated Chor Virap monastery (17th century). In good weather, an impressive view of Mount Ararat (5,165 m) reaching for the sky awaits you. 3 nights in Yerevan. (B/M)

      Today you will explore the multifaceted metropolis of Yerevan. In the heart of the city is the magnificent Republic Square. From the lookout hill Kaskade you will enjoy a magnificent view of Yerevan. The Matenadaran Museum, which you will visit afterwards, is famous for the largest collection of ancient Armenian manuscripts. In the afternoon you will drive to the Yerevan countryside and visit the round church of Zvartnots (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the cathedral (UNESCO World Heritage Site) in Echmiadzin, the religious center of the Armenians. Back in Yerevan, pay a visit to Gum market hall where many sweets, dried fruits, fruits, vegetables and spices are sold. (B/A)

      Day 13: Cave Monastery And Sun Temple

      In the morning you will visit the pagan sun temple of Garni and the cave monastery of Geghard (UNESCO World Heritage Site), one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in Armenia. In the Asat Gorge with basalt columns you will take a short hike. On the way back you will get an insight into the baking of the traditional flat bread Lavash and you can actively assist. The bread made of flour, water and salt has been an intangible World Heritage Site since 2014 and is considered the most eaten bread in Armenia. It tastes best fresh from the earth oven. Taste it with fresh herbs and cheese! Back in Yerevan, the Historical Museum and a walk through the flea market "Vernissage" await you. Afterwards you will have some free time to stroll around Yerevan and buy some souvenirs. (B/M)
