  • Day 1 Day 1: Arrive In Windhoek
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 1: Arrive In Windhoek

Arrival at Windhoek International Airport. We are welcomed by our guide and transferred to Windhoek, Namibiaโ€™s capital. Windhoek is a modern city, however, there are still many monuments and old venerable buildings that remind us of the German colonial times more than a hundred years ago.

After a city tour, we can still walk around in the arcades. African handicrafts are offered everywhere in the city. We enjoy the rest of the day and look forward to our first evening in Namibia. For dinner, we visit a restaurant in the city (optional).

      Accommodation: Hotel Pension Palmquell

On a small hike, up to the plateau, we see almost all trees and shrubs that exist in Namibia.

Day 3: Drive To Etosha National Park

After an early morning hike, we head to the realm of the wildlife of Etosha National Park. The park is one of the largest wildlife reserves in the world and one of the most outstanding wildlife parks in Africa. The animals are attracted by the Etosha pan, a huge depression rarely filled with rainwater. On the edges of the pan are waterholes where animals and birds flock together a whole year long. The mineral-rich water allows grasses, bushes, and trees to thrive which offers the game a place to hide. Our current accommodation, the Mokuti Lodge, is located directly in front of Von Lindequist Gate, the entrance to the park. In the afternoon we enjoy the first game drive.

We have the whole day to visit the various water holes and to see wildlife such as giraffes, kudu, zebra, oryx antelope, black-faced impala, wildebeest, springbok, ostrich and with some luck even lions. Namibia has the largest population of the rare black rhinos.

From the terrace, of the lodge, you have a view of the haze and fog of the nearby Victoria Falls, which we visit in the afternoon. The local Kololo call the waterfall Mosi-oa-Tunya = "thundering smoke". The name comes from the spray mist, which rises to 300 m and can still be seen up to 30 km away. This is caused by water masses of the Zambezi pouring over a width of 1708 m into 110 m depth. We walk through the rainforest and enjoy a wonderful view of the waterfalls from various vantage points.
