Day 2: Whitehorse - Haines Junction

After breakfast, you will first get an overview of the capital of the Yukon. This may include a visit to the restored paddle steamer SS Klondike, located directly on the Yukon. Then the big round trip begins with the first short driving stage over the Alaska Highway towards the west. Even on this stretch, scenic sights invite you to make stops before you reach Haines Junction - located at the foot of Kluane National Park - in the early afternoon. Kluane National Park is not only the largest national park in Canada, but it is also home to the largest contiguous glacier area on earth outside of the two poles, in addition to a diverse wildlife. To this day, this massive national park remains largely undeveloped and untouched. Depending on the weather conditions and the interest of the group, a guided smaller hike into the national park can be undertaken. Another possible attraction is to take part in a flight with the legendary bush plane over the imposing glacier world of the park or to fly in by helicopter deep into absolutely deserted territory (optional). (Hotel overnight stay in Haines Junction)

  • Day 3 Day 3: Haines Junction - Tok
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 3: Haines Junction - Tok

First we will drive along the picturesque shore of the huge Kluane Lake. A first stop is planned at the Sheep Mountain Visitor Center. In the surrounding mountains there is a good chance to see some of the rare snow-white Dall sheep. Keep your camera ready, sometimes these actually very shy animals come right down to the road! Shortly after that we will reach Soldier Summit, where you will get a small insight into the construction and opening of the Alaska Highway in 1942 through descriptive information panels (hotel overnight in Tok).

      Day 4: Tok - Valdez

The first part of todayโ€™s stage leads along the Tok-Cutoff Highway past countless rivers, lakes and glaciers to the impressive Wrangell - St. Elias National Park. Later, we will continue south on the Richardson Highway to the Pacific coast and the small harbor town of Valdez. Spectacular is the crossing of the Chugach Mountains over the Thompson Pass with its thundering waterfalls directly on the road. Valdez, surrounded by alpine scenery, is also called Little Switzerland by its inhabitants. Valdez is also known for the fact that the world famous Trans-Alaska Pipeline ends here and the big oil tankers are loaded here. (Hotel overnight stay in Valdez)

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 5: Valdez - Whittier - Seward

The ferry takes us through Prince William Sound. Undoubtedly one of the scenic highlights of Alaska. Passing numerous glaciers of the coastal mountains and small forested islands, the route leads close to the Pacific coast. Here are also very good opportunities for species-rich animal observation. With a little luck, you will get to see sea lions or even whales in addition to the cute sea otters and puffins. Once back on land, more attractive photo stops will entice you. Not far from Whittier, for example, you can see the Portage Glacier or the Byron Glacier. The drive to Seward through the Chugach Mountains, past several glacier rivers and lakes, is another highlight. In the lively fishing town of Seward you can enjoy the local culinary delights in one of the numerous restaurants. You should also try the king crabs. A short walk along the coast is the perfect way to end the evening. (Hotel overnight stay in Seward)

A very popular option is to join the Kenai Fjords Tour (optional), which takes you deep into the impressively diverse and biodiverse fjord area. After leaving the Kenai Peninsula, the drive continues along the Kenai Mountains past the Turnagain inlet up to Anchorage. Be on the lookout for the white beluga whales that are often seen in this bay! Once in the big city of Anchorage, finish with a good meal together at one of the many restaurants or a local brewery. Fairbanks has all the amenities that make up a city experience.
