Lithuanian Lake District Fat Biking

This tour includes:

Guide

English/Russian speaking local guide. The guide is trained in first aid, ensuring the safety of the tours. The guide also acts as an instructor, providing travellers with safety briefings and helping in the use of equipment and in the wilderness.

Transport

Transfer from Visaginas to the guesthouse on day 1. Transportation of personal belongings between accommodations. Transfer from the guesthouse to Ignalina, from which you can get a public transport connections to the major Lithuanian cities, on day 5.

Accommodation

Accommodation in traditional and cosy homesteads for 4 nights in shared rooms for 2-4 persons with shared facilities, unless stated otherwise. Whilist some of the guesthouses have a "hotel-like" feel to them, the majority of them are more like family homes, and have shared facilities and kitchen. Such guesthouses would house only your group, so please donโ€™t worry about any strangers or random people sharing the same house with you.

Meals

Full-board meals on days 2-4, dinner on day 1, breakfast on day 5. At least one meal per day will be cooked over open fire. All travellers must inform us of any dietary requirements and allergies. We will do our best in order to account for any of such requirements in preparing the menu for the tour.

Others

Fat bike and equipment rental. Sauna on day 4. Entry tickets to the Grazutes Regional Park and Aukstaitijos National Park. Entry tickets to the museum expositions at Salakas and Ginuฤiai.

Transfers to and from airport (using public transport is strongly recommended!) Train tickets can be bought online from the official rail travel provider, Lietuvos gelezinkeliai, whereas tickets for coach travel are not usually sold online. You can check the coach timetables though using the site https://www.autobusubilietai.lt/index.php?cl=start&lang=0 and buy the tickets upon arrival. It is also possible to request a private transfer service for an additional charge, please enquire about this.

Optional

Sauna on day 3 is optional and costs 50 Eur per group.

Flights

Flights to and from Lithuania are not included. Vilnius airport is the most convenient choice, as very good public transport links connect it to Visaginas, from where the tour departs, however you can also get to Visaginas from Kaunas airport and Riga airport (in Latvia).

Insurance

All passengers must ensure that they are covered by an adequate travel insurance.

  • Day 1 Day 1: Arrival And Introduction

      Day 1: Arrival And Introduction

      After arriving to Visaginas, you will have a short 20 minute transfer to a cosy guesthouse, situated right by the beautiful lake and fully surrounded by the mature pine forest, in Graลพutฤ—s Regional Park. Meet your local guide, receive a safety briefing and get accustomed to your fat bike. Take a short introductory fat bike ride in the evening (OPTIONAL).

  • Day 2 Day 2: Fat Biking Through Smalvo Conservation Area (38Km/24Mi)

      Day 2: Fat Biking Through Smalvo Conservation Area (38Km/24Mi)

      We start our day with some light morning exercise, followed by delicious breakfast. After breakfast we set off on a cycling tour around nearby lakes โ€“ Trilypis, Skaidrys, and ล vento. All of these lakes are part of Smalvo conservation area, which was designed to protect some of the rarest species of birds and plants in Lithuania. The nature here is dominated by pines, green mosses, and picturesque lakes formed following the Ice Age. There will be a stop for some rest and a lunch over an open fire halfway through the route. This is also a perfect opportunity to test the open lake waters and enjoy a refreshing swim in hot weather. After the stop weโ€™ll continue our way following a number of picturesque lakes and a river ล ventoji. Some hills and wetland areas will be present, adding a bit of spice and action to our journey. Arriving at the next guesthouse closer to the evening. Now itโ€™s time for tasty traditional dinner and rest.

      Day 3: Cycle Along Antalieptes Reservoir To Svedriske Village (40Km/25Mi)

      Greeting the morning with light exercise and yummy breakfast. Today weโ€™ll cycle alongside Antalieptฤ—s reservoir. The reservoir is made up from 26 lakes, which were artificially joined together to form a single lake, powering up a hydroelectric power station at Antalieptฤ—. The reservoir is full of little islands, majority of which are a natural habitat for variety of bird species. The route will run through Salakas village, where youโ€™ll get an opportunity to visit Graลพutฤ—s Regional park visitor centre, including an ethnographic exhibition of the Salakas region, an exhibition about the Regional Parkโ€™s natural environment and a Sea Museum (OPTIONAL). This is also a perfect timing to enjoy your packed lunch. After lunch we pedal en-route to Aukลกtaitijos National Park and arrive to a traditional guesthouse in the evening. This is now the time for dinner, relaxing sauna (OPTIONAL) and rest.

      Day 4: Cycle Through Aukลกtaitijos National Park To Palลซลกฤ— Village (35Km/22Mi)

      In the morning after breakfast we cycle to the Ginuฤiai water mill through the vast parkโ€™s area - passing by numerous lakes and through the forest. Lunch break at Ginuฤiai. Then stopping at Ladakalnis, a pagan worship hill with a stunning view of 6 different lakes. Legends say that sacrifices to the Baltsโ€™ goddess of life Lada were made on top of this hill. We then cycle through some of the wildest parts of Aukลกtaitijos National park, while learning more about the legends and stories connecting us with the natural sights we pass by, such as fresh water stream and dark small lakes Laumiakys and Laumekelis. Upon arrival at a final guesthouse in Palลซลกฤ— village, we enjoy delicious dinner, sauna and share our final tour experiences with each other.

      Day 5: End Of The Tour

      Take it easy with a delicious breakfast and rest, go for a morning swim, or take a short morning ride before departure. Transfer to Ignalina train station from which you can get a connection to Vilnius or Kaunas airport.
