GELLERT BATHS AND SPA Youโ€™ll set out with your guide to visit the famous Gellert Baths and Spa. Now part of the famous Hotel Gellert in Buda, references to the spaโ€™s healing waters have been found from as early as the 13th century. The current spa was founded in 1918, and a visit to the Art Nouveau thermal baths is a beautiful and historical experience. The special attractions are its indoor and outdoor swimming pools, wave bath, sunbathing terrace and thermal spa. After our tour, take some time to relax and enjoy the saunas, the terrace looking at Gellert Hill, or the geothermal pools with some beer, wine, or champagne in hand. This is an exceptional tour in one of the most historical places in the city, but donโ€™t take our word for it, come and see for yourself. Afterwards, weโ€™ll return to the ship. (Donโ€™t forget to bring your swimsuit!) Duration : approx. 3:00 hours Good walking shoes are recommended. The order of the visits can change. Times are approximate. Guided tour of Vienna and Schoenbrunn Palace You will begin the tour by taking the famous Ring to reach Schoenbrunn Palace. The "Ring" was one of the personal projects of Emperor Franz Joseph. In 1857, he decided to take down the ramparts that enclosed the city center and had this boulevard built lined with fine buildings. Along the Ring you will admire this architectural showcase of the old Austro-Hungarian monarchy, including: the State Opera; the Hofburg Palace; the Natural History Museum; the City Hall; the Burgtheater and more. When you arrive at Schoenbrunn Palace, you will be guided through the numerous rooms of the Hapsburgsโ€™ summer residence, which bear witness to the splendor of the Court at the time of Maria Theresa. You will also have some time to wander through the Palace gardens. You will then return to the coach, which will take you to the city center to enjoy some free time in the area around St Stephenโ€™s Cathedral. You will then return to the coach, which will take you back to the boat, via the Ring. Duration : approx. 4:00 hours Comfortable shoes are recommended. The order of the visits can change. Times are approximate. Vienna, the Imperial Crypt and the Prunksaal Weโ€™ll leave by coach with our guides to visit the Imperial Crypt, located beneath the Capuchin Church. Most Habsburgs have been laid to rest here since 1633. The magnificent double sarcophagus of Maria Theresia and her husband, Emperor Franz I, was crafted by Balthasar Ferdinand Moll. The last emperor buried in the royal vault was Franz Joseph I (1916). Empress Elisabeth of Austria, known affectionately as "Sisi," and her son Rudolf are also buried here. This visit will bring you right to the epicenter of the elaborate Austrian Empire and its celebrated history. Weโ€™ll then move on to the Prunksaal. This baroque stateroom is part of the Austrian National Library and displays, on two levels, close to 200,000 books, 16,000 of which belong to Eugene of Savoyโ€™s private collection. Weโ€™ll return to the ship. Length: approx. 4 hours Authentic and Unique Vienna Weโ€™ll set out to discover the high art of Viennese living. Weโ€™ll stroll through the city and visit back stage in the Konzerthaus concert hall, which has the Vienna Symphony, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Wiener Singakademie and Klangforum Wien in residence. Weโ€™ll tour the prominent institution that features about 800 events per year with our guide who will explain the hallโ€™s history. Weโ€™ll head back stage where we might be able to catch a glimpse of a performer or two! After our tour, relax in one of the local cafรฉs and enjoy a steaming cup of Vienna Coffee and a delicious pastry. After our tour, weโ€™ll return to the ship. Length: approx. 3.5 hours In case the Konzerthaus is booked for shows or closed, weโ€™ll visit the Musikverein or the Opera instead. Budapest and the Parliament Building Weโ€™ll leave by coach for a panoramic tour of the city. Weโ€™ll cross the plains of Pest and drive past Heroesโ€™ Square, the famous Szechenyi Thermal Baths, the Zoo and Botanical Garden โ€“ a true wonder of architecture โ€“ Vajdahunyad Castle and more. Weโ€™ll then drive up the renowned Andrassy Avenue and past St. Stephenโ€™s Basilica before following the river all the way to the white silhouette of the Parliament Building overlooking the Danube. Designed in Gothic Revival style, the Parliament took 17 years to build, with construction ending in 1902. Today, it houses the Holy Crown of Hungary, the coronation crown used by the Kingdom of Hungary for most of its existence. The building is also home to the National Assembly which has met there since its opening. Youโ€™ll be blown away by the spacious rooms, sumptuous frescoes, stained-glass windows and sculptures inside the building as much as its impressive limestone faรงade. Length: approx. 4h Just as for every institutional building, the Hungarian Parliament may have to close without notice. Bratislava and St Martinโ€™s Cathedral Weโ€™ll leave on foot for a guided tour of Bratislava and St Martinโ€™s Cathedral. Our walking tour will take us past the main historical monuments in the old town. Weโ€™ll then hop on our coach headed to St Martinโ€™s Cathedral. Its massive tower is capped by a replica of the Hungarian Crown resting on a gilded pillow. The coronations of 11 kings and queens plus 8 of their consorts occurred in this ยซ coronation church ยป in the 16th century. Inside, youโ€™ll be amazed by the beautiful wood carvings and the many paintings on display, such as one of the Last Supper. It is also inside these very walls that the Missa Solemnis by Beethoven was performed for the first time. Weโ€™ll return on board after our tour. Length: approx. 4 hours In case the cathedral is closed, weโ€™ll visit the Primateโ€™s Palace instead
