Afterwards, you will take a short tour to get first impressions of the Namibian capital with its Christ Church and the historic train station. You will experience great bustle in the colorful Namibia Craft Centre. Afterwards Katutura is on the program. At the Penduka womenโ€™s initiative, you will see how tablecloths and bedspreads are made. • Day 3 Day 3: Home Of The Basters And Naukluft National Park
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 3: Home Of The Basters And Naukluft National Park

A winding road leads you through the barren landscape of the Auas Mountains. On the Krumhuk farm, you visit the small Aris elementary school. In remote farm areas, institutions like this are often the only opportunity for children of farm workers to receive a school education. You will get an insight into school and boarding school life and learn how the children receive an education despite difficult conditions. The 200 or so lively school children aged 7-15 are eagerly awaiting your arrival. With Rehoboth you reach the home of the Baster, a small group of descendants of the Khoikhoi and white settlers, who have chosen their name themselves and proudly bear it. Continue over the legendary Remhoogte Pass to your lodge. In the afternoon you will take a hike at the foot of the red shining petrified dunes. Be curious about small wonders and secrets of the ancient desert.

      Meals
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. Breakfast is served in the Stellenbosch Tasting Room. At lunchtime you will dine at Connyโ€™s Restaurant, where you will be spoiled with chicken curry or bobotie, a meatloaf in the style of the Baster. The Namibian-German host Gรผnther took over Connyโ€™s a few years ago. He celebrates African coffee for his guests and has even set up a qigong and yoga hall. With your visit, you will be making a small contribution to improving the living situation locally as well as in Central Africa, as Gรผnther generates additional income for his staff.

      Accommodation
      Namib Desert Lodge
Namib Desert Lodge is located north of Sesriem on one of Namibiaโ€™s most beautiful farms and on the edge of a glowing red dune landscape. A restaurant with a rustic bar, a cozy terrace with a view of the huge rocks of the petrified dunes and two swimming pools invite you to linger. The lighted watering hole is regularly visited by oryx antelope and springbok, so have your camera ready. The fabulous Namibian sunrises and sunsets are particularly impressive here, the light conditions, the play of colors and the photo motifs downright paradisiacal.

      Notes
The driving distance is about 300 kilometers. The driving time is about 4 ยฝ hours.
You canโ€™t get enough? Our additional recommendation:
Take a drive at sunset in the Namib Desert Lodge nature reserve. Experience the contrast between the approximately 18 million year old fossilized dunes and the two to three million year old sand dunes. Here silence and timelessness can be physically experienced. The trip takes about 2 ยฝ hours and is available from September to March. In other months it may not be feasible due to the sun setting earlier, depending on what time you arrive at the lodge. Your tour guide will inform you well in advance of your arrival at Namib Desert if the drive will take place. The price per person is 720 NA-$ (valid until 31.10.2023) or 785 NA-$ (valid from 01.11.2023).
  • Day 4 Day 4: The Sandy Sea Of Sossuvlei
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 4: The Sandy Sea Of Sossuvlei

Already before sunrise you set off to the gigantic dunes at Sossusvlei, which belong to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage. Enjoy the unique atmosphere in the dune valley in the early morning. The last five kilometers to the vlei will be covered in a four-wheel drive shuttle, as normal vehicles cannot cope with the masses of sand. You walk through the dune world and can try to climb one of the up to 350 meters high sand mountains. As soon as you walk through the Dead Vlei with its over 500 years old dead acacias, you know that it bears its name rightly. Before leaving the park, explore Sesriem Canyon on foot. Perfectly coordinated with your experiences in Sossusvlei, youโ€™ll take a thirty-minute dune drive in the afternoon in a four-wheel drive vehicle. At the end of the day, enjoy the spectacular starry sky and listen to the sounds of the desert at night.

      Meals
Breakfast and dinner are included. You will enjoy the breakfast package in the middle of Sossusvlei. Look forward to it!

      Accommodation
      Namib Dune Star Camp
The Namib Dune Star Camp is idyllically situated in the middle of a wonderful dune landscape far away from civilization, north of Sesriem. The nine chalets are nestled in the spectacular landscape of the Namib Desert. The environmentally friendly designed wooden chalets have large windows and use solar energy. Just roll your bed out for a night on the open-air wooden deck. The main house is a restaurant and social hub. It is situated on the edge of a dune and has a spacious wooden deck with a magnificent view of the breathtaking desert landscape and the petrified dunes in the background. We wish "Lekker Slaap".

      Notes
The driving distance is approximately 240 kilometers. The driving time is about 4 ยฝ hours.
When you leave for Namib Dune Star Camp, your suitcase will stay at Namib Desert Lodge. Your luggage will be safely stored there. We recommend that you only take the things you need for your stay in the desert. A small foldable travel bag is best suited for this purpose.
