      Day 2: Panama City Tour

In the morning you will start for the first sightseeing of the fascinating city founded in 1519. The ravishing scenery of skyscrapers, noble mansions and green hills will delight you.
The excursion begins with a hike in the nearby Metropolitano Nature Park. It covers an area of 232 hectares and consists mainly of humid tropical primary forest. The Parque Metropolitano offers a very large variety of tree and plant species and gives you a small taste of Panamaโ€™s mighty biodiversity and a great view of the capital city below.
Continue to the Causeway Amador, a causeway artificially created during the construction of the Panama Canal in the Bay of Panama. Here, enjoy the unique view of Panama Cities skyline and the Bridge of the Americas (Puente de Americas).
Afterwards we continue to the historic old town. Today, the oldest institutions and buildings of the modern city can be found here; locally, the neighborhood is called Casco Viejo or Casco Antiguo. On a walking tour you will see many unique colonial buildings, some still largely in their original condition and others lovingly and colorfully restored. The historic district is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and in recent years has become the countryโ€™s center for art, design and cultural revival. Many new bars, rooftop terraces, restaurants and hotels have opened here.
Afterwards, visit the always lively fish market and try a ceviche (fish marinated in lime juice) or a shrimp cocktail! Watch the spectacle of the market criers.
Afterwards we make a detour to the vegetable and fruit market, where you can look over the shoulders of the market vendors! Surely you will get to know one or the other tropical fruit unknown to you! Of course, a taste is a must.
In the connection coastal road Cinta Costera or in Punta Pacifica may not be missing. Here are Panama Cityโ€™s famous skyscrapers!

Day 3: Panama City - Np Altos De Campana - Pineapple Farm - Panama City

In the morning, drive west on the famous Panamericana and cross one of the bridges that cross the Panama Canal.
Stop along the way at Quesos Chela, a small store that is almost an "institution" among the Panameรฑos. It is famous not only for its cheese, but also for its delicious empanadas, chichas (a type of juice made from fresh fruit) and chicheme (non-alcoholic drink made with milk, corn, cinnamon and vanilla). A taste here is a must. Then, after a total of 70 km, you will reach the oldest national park in Panama, Altos de Campana. Founded in 1966, the park offers diverse viewpoints and birdlife. A total of 267 bird species live here but also 39 mammal species including opossums, sloths, monkeys and the golden frog, which is threatened with extinction. Here we visit the viewpoint Caja de Agua with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the Pacific Ocean and take a short hike.
On the way back to Panama City we will visit a pineapple farm. First, a typical local lunch awaits you. Well strengthened you will then visit the farm. The fruits of this farm are exported to Germany, among other countries. During the tour you will learn everything about this tropical fruit and get an insight into all processes. From planting the plant to the care and finally to the harvest and packaging. In addition, other exotic fruits, such as mango, maracuya or pitahaya are cultivated on the 15 hectares large finca. Finally, a tasting of fresh pineapple fruit is a must.
In the afternoon the excursion ends at the hotel.

NOTE: If you start your trip on a Tuesday, this excursion day (day 3) will be shifted to the end of the trip (day 7).

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 4: Panamรก City - Agua Clara Locks - San Lorenzo - Panama Viejo

After breakfast, today you will head north from the Pacific side of Panama to the Atlantic side. The drive takes about 1 hour until you reach Colรณn Province. A highlight of today is the visit to the Panama Canal Expansion Observation Center in Agua Clara, which impressively shows you how the new lock system of the Panama Canal, inaugurated in June 2016, works. The current new construction involved building new access roads on both sides of the waterway, as well as larger, water-efficient locks. The expansion cost about $5.25 billion. Following the expansion, ships of the so-called Postpanamax class with up to 14,000 containers can now also be navigated through the canal. The tour then continues to the port of San Lorenzo. The port, which dates back to the 15th century, was a collection point for the treasures coming from Peru, which were shipped from there to Spain. Located in the middle of the tropical jungle, the complex of ruins includes a series of forts, castle and palace buildings, fortifications and walls arranged in a line surrounding the bay. Afterwards, you will drive back to Panama City.
Here you will still visit the 16th century ruins of Panama Viejo. You will explore the remains of the first Spanish settlement on the Pacific coast, which was completely destroyed in 1671 during a raid by the legendary pirate Sir Henry Morgan.

Day 5: Soberanรญa National Park &Amp; Boat Trip On Lake Gatรบn &Amp; Miraflores Locks

An impressive tour for nature and water lovers! The excursion starts in the morning with a drive from your hotel to the nearby Soberanรญa National Park. Here, a one to two hour hike awaits you, during which you will dive into the jungle and get to know the diverse tropical flora of the national park and, with a bit of luck, observe various animal species, including bird species and monkeys. Afterwards, you will drive to the port of Gamboa. From there, you will begin an approximately 2-ยฝ hour boat ride on Lake Gatรบn. During the trip you will get to know the biodiversity of the lake (including monkeys, crocodiles, turtles, sloths, various species of birds ...) and closely encounter some ships that are just crossing the Panama Canal. After a visit to Monkey Island, you will return to the capital.
On the way you will visit the Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal. Here you will get a first insight into the functioning and dimensions of the famous Panama Canal. The terrace offers a unique view of the locks and of the ships passing through the locks on their way to the Pacific or Atlantic Ocean. The Panama Canal is one of the most important waterways in the world. About 14,000 ships pass through it every year, and about six percent of world trade passes through it. In the associated museum, you can learn a lot of interesting facts about the canal.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Panama City - Emberรก Village - Panama City
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 6: Panama City - Emberรก Village - Panama City

After breakfast, you will head northeast to a branch of Lake Alajuela. There you will board small dugout canoes that will take you up the Rio Chagres. A fascinating jungle scenery will accompany you on the boat trip. Arriving at the Emberรก village, you will experience an authentic insight into the millennia-old culture of the people who lived here long before the arrival of the Europeans. Since the original tradition and way of life still exist, you will inevitably be transported back centuries. Visitors are greeted by the rhythmic sounds of traditional instruments: drums, flutes and rattles. The men wear guayuco, a kind of loincloth, and the women wrap themselves in colorful cloths called parumas. They offer handicrafts that they make themselves. Some of the women weave palm leaves, others are responsible for feeding the visitors. Plantains and fish wrapped in a palm leaf - this is what a typical lunch looks like.
You can take home a traditional tattoo, a kind of organic tattoo, which the Embera also wear on their bodies: they make the ink from jagua, a plant whose sap is mixed with ash. It is painted with a small stick and for a few dollars. After a good two weeks, the paint is washed off again.
In the afternoon we return to modern Panama City.
