  • Day 1 Arica

      Arica

      Pick up the rental car at Arica  airport, the northernmost city in Chile. Visit the coastal town with the "Moro " viewpoint and Chinchorro Beach. The seaside resort is a popular holiday destination among Chileans because of its beautiful beaches, exceptionally sunny climate all year round and unique maritime fauna. Be sure to try the delicious seafood!

  • Day 2 Arica - Valle De Codpa

      Arica - Valle De Codpa

      After breakfast you can visit the Mercado, where the people of the Aymara culture sell their products from the Andes and the coastal valleys. Next, continue through the fertile Azapa Valley to visit the Alto Ramirez geoglyphs (rock art), Cerro Sagrado, and the Archaeological Museum of San Miguel. The museum houses an exhibition of the worldโ€™s oldest mummies . Then continue your journey through the desert to the  oasis of Codpa , where vegetables and fruit are grown all year round and which is famous for the purple Azapa olive.

      Today you can visit the rock carvings of Ofragรญa and Cerro Blanco and the villages of Vitor, Tignamar and Belรฉn. Itโ€™s also worth stopping in the nostalgic villages of Chapiquiรฑa and Socoroma, which are dedicated to livestock and terrace farming. Take an easy hike along the Qhapac ร‘an (Inca Trail) before continuing to the highland village of Putre goes to 3,650m.

      Visit Lauca National Park and Lake Chungarรก (4,000 m) as well as the village of Parinacota . Experience the diverse wildlife with llamas, alpacas, vicuรฑas, guanacos and many species of birds . The national park is located directly on the Bolivian border, surrounded by several volcanoes over 6000 m high. These include the volcanoes Parinacota (6,342 m), Pomerape (6,286 m), Guallatire (6,071 m) and the Acotango mountain (6,052 m). Lake Chungarรก is one of the highest lakes in the world. If youโ€™re lucky, youโ€™ll see an Andean condor circling in the sky.

      Putre - Iquique

      Drive back to Arica CLAK038 and continue south on the Panamericana to Iquique . Visit the former saltpeter towns of Humberstone along the way and Santa Laura and revive the golden days of open-pit saltpeter mining that once made the country rich. When saltpeter could be produced synthetically, the era ended and two ghost towns remained in the desert. Humberstone is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site . In Iquique, the Baquedano district with its pastel-colored antique houses and the Paseo Costanera beach promenade invite you to stroll.

      Drive via Calama and over a 3200 m high pass in the Pre-Cordillera to the oasis town of San Pedro in the middle of the Atacama Desert . The small town with narrow streets and the church from 1577 is the ideal starting point for excursions in the desert. Over the next few days, discover lagoons, flamingos, salt lakes, mountain villages and bubbling springs . An unforgettable natural experience! In addition to the suggested excursions, the town of San Pedro itself also offers some interesting leisure activities. For example, there is a museum about the history of life in the Atacama.

      We recommend that you visit the highland lagoons today. Stop at the handicraft village of Toconao and then drive through the dry desert landscape to the huge salt lake Salar de Atacama , where you can watch beautiful flamingos at Laguna Chaxa . Then continue into the highlands to the lakes Miscanti and Miรฑiques at 4,150m altitude. On the route we recommend a short stop in the pretty mountain village of Socaire to acclimatize (3,200m).

      Head to the legendary El Tatio geysers before sunrise at 4,230m. In the light of the first rays of morning you will witness a spectacular spectacle: the hissing fountains of geysers rise up to 10m from the earth. Take a hot bath in one of the natural thermal pools, then continue to the picturesque village of Machuca . In the afternoon we recommend a tour through the Cordillera de la Sal with a visit to the Valle de la Muerte and the Valle de la Luna to do.
