Day 1
Arrival to Kuusamo or Oulu Airport and transfer to the village of Hossa where you will enjoy a welcoming dinner at the authentic Wilderness Lodge (with no electricity or running water).
Day 2
After breakfast you get to feed the reindeer followed by a 25 km (15.5mi) transfer south by car, you will start your hike on the Eastern border hiking trail. When you reach the Wilderness Lodge at approx. 4pm, you will first need to feed the reindeer and make sure they are in good shape. Later in the evening you will heat up the sauna and have dinner before you can fall asleep in your cozy log cabin.
Day 3
Today you will be walking on the Easter border hiking trail again, just on the opposite direction. First it's a 20 km (12.4mi) drive north to our starting point by car, from where you walk 20 km (12.4mi) back to the base camp. Sauna and dinner back at the Wilderness Lodge, followed by looking after the reindeer.
Day 4
Today you can relax a bit after the two hikes and practice and learn some basic outdoor skills for tomorrow such as setting up a tent, making a fire and fishing. You will do a little drive around the area and try some fishing on different spots. In the late afternoon you will head back to the cabins, look after the reindeer, enjoy the sauna and have dinner.
Day 5
Today you will start a combined 2-day canoeing, hiking and camping trip in the Hossa National Park. After a 30-minute transfer, at your starting point you will learn the basics and safety issues of canoeing after which you are ready to go. You will stop for a picnic lunch on the way and after 13 km (8mi) of paddling, you still have 5 km (3.1mi) of hiking ahead before you are at the campsite for the night. You will set up our tents (no need to carry these) and have dinner outdoors by a beautiful pond.
Day 6
At the campsite you will prepare a light breakfast, dismantle the tents, pack your belongings and start a 11 km (6.8mi) hike. In the afternoon after a short 15-min transfer you will arrive to your last two nights' accommodation (with your luggage waiting for you) where you have all the moderns comforts after a while. Here you can heat up the sauna by the lake and go for a refreshing swim, followed by dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 7
On the last full day you can choose between a canoeing trip on the lakes starting right at your doorstep and an 8 km (5mi) hike with a visit to see the Colored Rock of Hossa, one the most significant rock paintings in the whole Scandinavia. Both activities are light and very enjoyable, good for a smooth landing from an active outdoor holiday. Last dinner is served at a very special restaurant right at the heart of the Hossa area, after the sauna of course.
