      Day 1

      Arrive in Tbilisi. You will be met by driver and transferred to the hotel. We will start the tour discovering the capital of Georgia by cable trip to โ€˜Mtatsmindaโ€™ (Mta - mountain, Tsminda - saint) - one of the highest spots that opens up the most magnificent views on the city. This mountain hill is also the host to St. Father Davidโ€™s Cathedral (โ€˜Mama Davitiโ€™) - Georgiaโ€™s pantheon. We will continue our tour with visit to โ€˜Narikalaโ€™ fortress and โ€˜Tsminda Samebaโ€™ cathedral.

      Our first culinary stop would be a try of Imeretian (Western Georgia region) style cuisine in the old town. You will be guided through the menu by the Chef of the restaurant so you can choose the best for yourself.

      We will then suggest you to visit a ยซSulfuric acid bathยป. Useful and pleasant bath treatments as well as relaxation massages are what Tbilisiโ€™s bathes are famous for ages. The experience will be followed by Georgian wine tasting

      Day 2

      You will start the day with the trip to Georgian Ethnographic museum. This is a unique open air museum where the model of entire country is presented. We will then make our way to the โ€˜Bread Houseโ€™. Before having traditional โ€˜Kartliโ€™-type lunch you will learn how to make Georgian bread and some other types of pastry, will make some of your own.

      Next stop will be โ€˜Sarajishviliโ€™ cognac producing plant. You will learn how the best Georgian cognac is produced, how to differentiate its taste and year of production, will see how it is stored for many years, and of course a degustation is a major part of the visit.

      Final stop of the day is Tbilisi Botanical Garden. The sight is one of the oldest in the entire region and famous for its waterfall.

      Day 3

      On the way to Mtskheta we will stop at the Jvari (Monastery of the Cross) located at the top of the hill. The monastery was built in the 6th century. Mtskheta is the first Georgian capital, located about 35 km away from Tbilisi. โ€˜Svetitskhoveliโ€™ cathedral, which apart from its architectural beauty, also famous for the fact that it keeps the โ€˜Tunic of the Lordโ€™ and โ€˜Holy Crossโ€™ that was made from the wooden part of the cross on which Jesus was crucified. We will visit a small private winery and see how ordinary people make their living by producing and selling wine.

      You will then have a unique experience of Georgian wine tasting and lunch at โ€˜Chateau Mukhraniโ€™ premises, the first Royal Chateau in Georgia. The landmark is renowned all over the world for its splendid palace and cellars, wonderful gardens, pristine vineyards and farms.

      Drive to Akhaltsikhe. Overnight at the hotel.

      Day 4

      We will start the day with a trip to Vardziya, magnificent cave town and monastery site in southern Georgia, excavated from the slopes of the Erusheti Mountain on the left bank of the Mtkvari River. The main period of construction was the second half of the twelfth century. The caves stretch along the cliff for some five hundred meters and have up to nineteen tiers. After that you will have lunch and try some specialties of Samtskhe-Javakhetian style cuisine.

      We will then return to Akhatsikhe to see the Rabati Fortress.

      Day 5

      In the morning depart to Uplistsikhe, literally "the lordโ€™s fortress", is an ancient rock-hewn town in eastern Georgia, some 10 kilometers east of the town of Gori, which is our next stop. Explore Joseph Stalin museum featuring original house, where he was born, and his private armored train carriage.

      Our culinary stop on the way will be โ€œIagoโ€™s Maraniโ€, the ideal place for a calm traditional Georgian lunch made by the hostess followed by the amazing house wine tasting.

      Drive to Tbilisi . Overnight in Tbilisi

      Day 6

      After breakfast we will drive to Kakheti region . We will  visit the residence of dukes Chavchavadze, one of the most beloved and notable Georgian families. We will continue our tour driving to Winery Kharebaโ€™s wine-yards in Kvareli (Kakheti). The excursion through 13 km long tunnel excavated into the heart of the Kakhetian mountain, followed by wine tasting experience, short presentation about how to differentiate the wine made by European methods from those by Georgian one, and master-class in preparing Churchkhella (Georgian home-made candy with nuts).

      Drive to Signaghi. The destination is also called โ€˜The city of Loveโ€™. The town and its environs are well known for their landscapes and historical monuments. Signaghi has recently undergone a fundamental reconstruction program and has become an important center of tourism in Georgia.

      Check-in into the hotel. Overnight in Signaghi

      Day 7

      In the morning we will visit the Pirosmani museum in Signaghi. It will be followed by a visit to the major St. Ninoโ€™s Monastery. St. Nino is considered to be the one who brought Christianity to this land and is very honored by Georgian people.

      Drive back to Tbilisi. Free time until transfer to the train station.

      Move from Tbilisi train station  to Azerbaijan (12 hours) by train.

      You will start your excursion from the "OLD CITY"( Icheri sherher) of Baku. Old City or Inner City is the historical core of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The Old City is the most ancient part of Baku, which is surrounded by walls were well protected. In December 2000, the Old City of Baku, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and Maiden Tower, became the first location in Azerbaijan to be classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. 

      Beside these museums you will also visit Shemakha gate, Old Market square where you can buy carpets and other souvenirs. Walking around narrow streets of old city you can feel the history.

      Time for tour Absheron Peninsula!

      (The Absheron Peninsula extends 60 km (37 mi) eastward into the Caspian Sea, and reaches a maximum width of 30 km (19 mi). Though technically the easternmost extension of the Caucasus Mountains, the landscape is only mildly hilly, a gently undulating plain that ends in a long spit of sand dunes known as Shah Dili, and now declared the Absheron National Park. In this part the peninsula is dissected by ravines and characterized by frequent salt lakes.)

      Mardakan medieval fortress and Yanardagh Fire Mountain (literally on fire!) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yanar_Dag) 


      After lunch drive to Gobustan

      Excursion to Gobustan open-air rock paintings museum. 

      Gobustan State Reserve is very rich in archeological monuments, the reserve has more than 6,000 rock carvings, which depict primitive people, animals, battle-pieces, ritual dances, bullfights, boats with armed oarsmen, warriors with lances in their hands, camel caravans, pictures of sun and stars, on the average dating back to 5,000-20,000 years.

      The rock carvings and petroglyphs at the site display mesmerizing images of prehistoric life in the Caucasus. The well-preserved sketches display ancient populations travelling on reed boats; men hunting antelope and wild bulls, and women dancing. The famed Norwegian anthropologist Thor Heyerdahl returned many times to Azerbaijan between 1961 and his death in 2002 to study the site in his "Search for Odin".


      Gobustan State Historical and Cultural Reserve acquired national status in 2006. As a part of the 31st Session of the UNESCO World Legacy Committee held in Christchurch, New Zealand on June 23 - July 2, 2007 included within the World Social Legacy List.

      Return to Baku and free time
