  • Day 1 Day 1: Sofia

      Arrival Sofia Airport and transfer to your hotel. If time permits โ€“ panorama tour of Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria, which Constantine the Great once called โ€œMy Romeโ€ โ€“ Alexander Nevski Memorial Cathedral, St. Sofia 6th c basilica, Parliament Square, National Theatre and the Old City Garden, Presidency, St. George 4th c rotunda. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Sofia โ€“ Boyana - Rila Monastery โ€“ Sofia

      Morning visit of the National Museum of History and Boyana Church UNESCO site. 

      Proceed to Rila Monastery UNESCO site โ€“ the largest monastery in Bulgaria, picturesquely located 1100 m above sea level in Rila Mountain National Park.

      Return to Sofia and 2nd overnight at the same hotel.

      Departure to Plovdiv โ€“ the oldest continuously inhibited city in Europe, which was European Capital of culture in 2019. Visit the Old Plovdiv architecture reserve with the Ancient Theatre and the National Revival houses complex, walk along the longest pedestrian street in the world with the remains of Roman stadium and Forum, enjoy a coffee in Kapana โ€“ the artistic neighbourood of Plovdiv. 

      In the afternoon we will depart to Kazanluk โ€“ the centre of the Valley of Roses, known as well as the Valley of the Thracian kings. Visit Kazanluk Thracian tomb ( UNESCO site, copy ).  Dinner and overnight at your hotel.


  • Day 4 Day 4: Kazanluk โ€“ Veliko Turnovo โ€“ Ruse - Bucharest

      Departure to Veliko Turnovo โ€“ the medieval capital city of Bulgaria, picturesquely located on 4 hills above Yantra river. En route we will make photo stops to Shipka memorial Church, Shipka peak with the mountain pass and Dryanovo Monastery. Upon arrival in Veliko Turnovo, we will tour the old part of the city with the small cobblestones streets like Gurko and Samovodska Charhia โ€“ the street of traditional crafts in Veliko Turnovo, as well as Tsarevets Royal Hill with the medieval Citadel.

      Proceed in the afternoon to Ruse border city, located at the bank of Danube river. Arrival in Bucharest in the early evening, check-in at your hotel. Dinner and overnight.

      After breakfast, departure to Curtea de Arges, the former capital of Wallachia. Visit the Episcopal Church where the Romanian Kings are buried. Drive along the picturesque Olt Valley to Sibiu, one of the oldest cities in Transylvania - formerly Hermannstadt - founded by the Saxon colonists. Guided walking tour of the medieval town (the Main Square, the Evangelical Church, and the Liarsโ€™ Bridge etc.). Depart to Sibiel- the village which was awarded the prize โ€œPomme dโ€™Or by the Press Association FIJET. Visit the Museum of Icons. Accommodation and dinner in Sibiel.

      Morning departure to Sighisoara, birthplace of Vlad the Impaler ( Dracula ). En route, visit the fortified Church at Biertan, one of the most beautiful in Romania. Arrival in Sighisoara and walking tour to explore the medieval Citadel included in UNESCO World Heritage: the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill, the roofed stairways etc. Continue to Targu Mures, walking tour through the elegant city centre, well known for its architecture: the Palace of Culture, the Orthodox Churches, and the Teleki-Bolyai Library. Drive on to Bistrita and one of the 7 medieval cities in Transylvania and the place where Jonathan Harker, Bram Stokerโ€™s hero spent the night before arriving at Draculas Castle. Dinner and overnight stay at your centrally located hotel.  After dinner, optional night walking tour.

      Departure to Bucovina โ€“the โ€œupper landโ€ with the unique painted monasteries, belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage. After crossing the land of Dracula, we arrive at Campulung Moldovenesc. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Moldovita Monastery โ€“ a symphony in purple red, a medieval art treasure. We continue with visit to Lucia CONDREAโ€™s workshop, the famous creator of painted eggs, as well as the village of Vatra Moldovitei. We also visit one of the jewels of Bucovina: Voronet Monastery, a genuine touristic attraction, both for Romanian and foreign visitors. It is also called โ€œthe Sistine Chapel of the Eastโ€. Dinner and accommodation in the area.

  • Day 8 Day 8: Sucevita/Gura Humorului โ€“ Lacu Rosu /Miercurea Ciuc- Brasov/Poiana Brasov

      We continue driving through the Moldavian villages, we visit the monastery of Agapia. In the afternoon, we cross the fabulous Bicaz Gorges on foot, if the weather is fine. Arrive at Lacu Rosu (the Red Lake) resort. Continue to Brasov, former Kronstadt, founded by the Saxon colonists, as the South gate of Transylvania. Overnight at your hotel in Brasov/Poiana Brasov.

      Stop-over at Peles Castle exquisite piece of architecture and one of the most spectacular castles in Europe. Drive on to Bran and visit the famous medieval castle (the โ€žDraculaโ€™sโ€Ÿ Castle) built as a fortress for the citizens of Brasov in 1377, as a defense to the city. Stop in Prejmer for visit the fortified church, also included the UNESCO World Heritage. Return to Brasov. City tour of Brasov , exterior view  the Black Church, the biggest Gothic church between Istanbul and Vienna, the old fortifications, the White and Black Tower, the Council Square, the Ekaterina Gate and Saint Nicholas Church. Overnight stay your hotel Brasov/Poiana Brasov.

      In the morning, we cross the Carpathians. Panoramic tour of Bucharest, the city of contrasts between old and modernity, with large boulevards and magnificent buildings (the Romanian Athenaeum, the Patriarchal Church; visit the House of Parliament or Palatul Primaverii (please note that the Parliament Palace is a government building and it might be closed without notice). Check-in at a 4* hotel in Bucharest. Walking tour in the Old City centre. Farewell dinner in a lovely brassiere, keeping immortal the old spirit of Bucharest at the end of the century.
